US Pilot Labor Thread 10/19-10/26

I had to have some reply since Oldie played the "what if" game then said it shouldn't be played. Besides, most of this really is amusing - hearing the same arguments over and over, seeing posters from one side chastised for using some argument or another but remaining silent when those on the same side use the same argument, etc.

Of course, there's golf (which I've resumed after not playing since college - don't ask about scores!) and trips to Alaska for hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling, and just general bumming around (6 weeks worth so far this year, but it's getting too cold to go again before spring).

Given the background surrounding this situation, how incomprehensible is it that anybody truely believes such a simplistic solution as pure date of hire would be remotely fair to all or even fair, period?

Not hard to understand when it clearly favors one side(east). Its called greed and extremely prevelant in this industry.

Whatever happened to our erstwhile friend anyway. He posted occasionally for a while then disappeared.

Jim

He posted once on pilotloop.com and had his nose rubbed into some of his earlier posts from this website. He's crawled back into his hole and we haven't heard from him since.

Do you have access to pilotloop, Jim? You would be a welcome addition to their stated purpose of developing civil discusion between east & west.

I cannot vote for the furlough assesment, but will contribute if it passes. However, I would be very disappointed if it does not include west furloughed non-members.
I read a USAPA update saying they were voting on the assesment but have not seen the actual document you are voting for,so I do not know who would be eligible.

Why would expect anyone to cover non-members, I don't want to pay for anyone that's not paying his fair share and is not a member, EAST or WEST!!!!

Sorry NIC,

No west furloughed pilots are covered.

AI 08-51 Furlough Pilot Medical Insurance
Henriksson/Britt
WHEREAS In the past the pilot group has approved a ballot be placed before the members to allow for furloughed pilot medical insurance, and
WHEREAS It is in the interest of USAPA to support our furloughed pilots with access to medical insurance, and
WHEREAS This action requires an assessment rather than payment from the general
dues accounts,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That the USAPA Board of Pilot representatives will send to the US Airways pilots a ballot concerning making medical insurance available to those member pilots who face furlough that contains the following provisions:
____________________________________________________________________
Ø The assessment shall be $25.00 per month for each member captain and $15.00 per month for each member First Officer, except that an ERJ-190 captain shall pay only $15.00 per month and each ERJ-190 First Officer shall pay $10 per month.

Ø This benefit shall be available to members only. In order to receive this benefit a member must be in good standing with all dues and assessments paid in full when furloughed.
Ø This benefit requires that the pilot pay for the insurance and he is then paid from the fund.

Ø The fund is administered by VEBA Associates of Tampa FL.

Ø These costs estimates for the assessments are based on past practice and history.

Ø This program, if enacted, shall continue for 18 months and then must be re-evaluated by the Board of Pilot Representatives as to the continuance of this program.

I don't, but this forum is enough for me (rough and tumble as it can be). Besides, there's probably more than a few that get more than their fill of my opinions already. I also like seeing what's happening with the other employee groups. Lastly, you gotta admit that some of the non-pilots here have a sharp wit (yeah, you're one International Shannon!!).

With guys like me with a short memory - every week the argument here is fresh and new. Plus I meet new people every week.

Three retired guys are sitting on the porch, commiserating about how tough it is to get old.

1st guy - Yeah, every morning I get up at 7:30, go to pee, and just stand there forever it seems, waiting for it to trickle out.

2nd guy - Yep, I get up at 7:30, sit on the commode and strain and strain.

3rd guy - Not me fellas. Every morning like clockwork, right at 7:30, I do both with absolutely no trouble. Problem is I don't get out of bed till 8:00.

Because, although they are being furloughed out of seniority, they are being furloughed none the less. Their children will need the coverage just as much. But I will still contribute, voluntarily I might add, as I am under no obligation of the assesments, even if it does not cover them, because I believe it is the right thing to do and I said I would earlier and INTEGRITY MATTERS.

You can then figure out who I am by calling Mark King and asking, who is the One west pilot that contributed to the furlough assesment.
