Winter 2008/2009 Schedule Changes

MAH hit the nail on the head. NW dumped capacity on this effort by AA which based on the other "hub raids" mentioned probably had a good forecast. AA typically has a lot of strength in NY to leverage.

American Airlines says it will offer nonstop flights between Miami and Grenada later this year, resuming a service suspended a decade ago.

The U.S. carrier says it will begin flying Boeing 737-800 aircraft between Miami and Grenada on Nov. 20.

Tourism Minister Claris Modeste-Curwen says the Wednesday announcement follows months of negotiations between the government and American Airlines.

The daily service would offer the only nonstop commercial flights between South Florida and Grenada.

Can anyone confirm if 2 out of the 3 MSP-LGA slots are going to RDU? I heard that 1 is going to CID, IIRC.

If by dal you mean Dallas Love Field, there is just one teensy little problem with DAL-ORD. It would be a violation of Federal Law. Remember, the Wright Amendment that AMR has spent a small fortune defending?

Not if it is eagle doing the flying, or they're bringing back the Fokers like last time with 56 seats.

Well, if we are ending DAL-MCI and DAL-AUS (the only two markets we serve from DAL), it would suggest to me that passengers are not interested in flying on an RJ if there is a full-size a/c serving the same destination with more frequency (on SWA). What makes anyone think that someone would like to fly quite a bit longer in one of those a/c with only one or two departures a day? Particularly, since they could drive a bit to DFW and choose among 15 departures a day on full-size a/c.

Here's the other question. AA in effect just axed 7 flights daily from AUS. What are they going to do with that extra gate? I think they would be infinitely stupid to get rid of it.

AUS is practically a mini-hub as it is. Given the number of O&D flights and the number of f/as who commute from AUS, I'm surprised that the company has not yet set up a satellite base there. I think they should increase mainline non-stops at AUS--AUS-MIA to start. Does anyone know of any mainline AUS non-stop that has not been successful?

What I find even more interesting is the success of non-stops from Austin compared to San Antonio which is almost twice as large, and has major military installations in or nearby.

I agree with you.

I wonder if the lack of emphasis on SAT has anything to do with AA's loss to UA for the Toyota corp contract (which directly led to the cancellation of AA's ORD-NGO)?

That could be it, but I would also venture that AUS has a higher medium income with significantly more business traffic than SAT. AUS is HQ for Dell and Frost Bank. Apple, Cisco, Bell Labs, AMD, Intel, Samsung, Wells Fargo all have major offices here. UT and the state government also award large contracts for air travel and are large draws to the city. Combine all of that with the touristy elements (like the Warehouse district), its not hard to see why there would be significant demand for air travel here.

I like everyone else here eagerly awaits AUS-MIA and any other service that AA feels the need to bless us with.

Question for our AA Folks here, what do you say on a scale from 1-10 are the chances of MIA-AUS happening?
