What's new

Winter 2007/2008 Route/Schedule Changes

Don't know why they aren't showing up, but there are three daily non-stop Montreal flights leaving Miami at 0725, 1230, and 2055.

Lot's of schedule changes were loaded last night, so everything might not be in line right now.

Also, to note, it looks like Austin-Seattle is a seasonal discontinuation, at least that is the plan for now.
Ok...thanks a lot. I'll keep an eye open for the final schedules to be loaded into Sabre. It's great news for Miami.

Here is a run down of the MIA changes, some of which have been mentioned:

Sarasota, Florida (2x daily)
Savannah, Georgia (1x daily)

Increased frequency (domestic)
+1 daily to Boston (6x daily)
+1 daily to Chicago (9x daily)
+1 daily to Detroit (2x daily)
+2 weekly to Eagle County, Colorado (seasonal) (eff 15Dec07)

Increased frequency (international)
+4 weekly to Bogotá (18x weekly)
+4 weekly to La Romana (7x weekly)
+3 weekly to Medellin (10x weekly)
+2 weekly to Montevideo (5x weekly) (operates via EZE 2x weekly)
+1 daily to Montreal (3x daily)
+1 daily to Nassau (10x daily)
+1 daily to Providenciales (3x daily)
+3 weekly to Santiago de Caballeros (10x weekly)
+3 weekly to Santiago de Chile (10x weekly)
+5 weekly to Sao Paulo (26x weekly) (eff. 01Dec07 through 31Jan08)
+3 weekly to Tegucigalpa

Reduced frequency
-1 daily to Fort Myers (3x daily)
-1 daily to Punta Cana (1x daily)
-1 daily to Washington Dulles (1x daily)

Also, service to Bolivia will change. AA will reduce overall service from 12 weekly flights to 10 weekly flights. However, instead of operating all flights on a MIA-LPB-VVI-MIA routing, AA will operate a daily MIA-LPB-VVI-MIA routing and three weekly MIA-VVI-MIA flights.

Also, to note, it looks like Austin-Seattle is a seasonal discontinuation, at least that is the plan for now.

MAH --

I lived in SAT for several years. If there were any way for people in SAT to make a quick am connection in AUS to the several non-stops to the West Coast, AA could pick up a LOT of customers. One of our frustrations was having to go to DFW or drive to AUS, which could be quite congested at times. Just a thought...

American Airlines continues to grow and enhance its New York service into Europe, announcing today that it will begin two new routes early next year to Milan, Italy, and Barcelona, Spain, from JFK International Airport (JFK), as well as a second daily roundtrip between JFK and London's Stansted Airport.

Beginning May 1, 2008, American will begin flying to Milan and Barcelona, and on April 7, 2008, American will launch a second daily flight to Stansted Airport in London. American's initial new service between JFK and Stansted is scheduled to begin Oct. 28. The return flights from these new European destinations will first launch on the next day following the dates listed above.

That's great. I hope the crews going to Milan get to stay up on the lake like the TWAers did. Greatest layoer spot ever. And Barcelona is great too.

Is there a Motel 6 up on the lake? After all, Crew Planning will find a way to make a 12-hour block-to-block layover in Milan and Barcelona legal.

There will be a fabulous long layover hotel that no one gets to stay in unless L. Curtis is "working" the flight. We have a sequence on the SLT bidsheet for next month where on Day 1 the crew works one leg to DFW, then deadheads to LGA for a layover. However, to prevent them from qualifying for the long layover hotel in Manhattan, they sit for 2 hours in DFW (even though there are two earlier LGA flights they could catch). That way their layover is only 15.51 hours--9 minutes short of long layover qualification.
Is this a great company or what?

Would have like to have seen the BCN or MXP from Miami, but that's the way it goes. Hopefully we will see additional frequencies to LHR and AA gets ready for the new competition, as a way to solidify market share.

Does anyone know if BOS-CDG will be returning next May? After reading about these new routes, I wonder where they will be taking the aircraft from??

You will see Barcelona from Miami, but not for at least 18 months. Miami-Barcelona is being planned, as is Dallas-Madrid, as AA will heavily expand service to Spain thanks to ATI and, eventually, trans-Atlantic profit sharing, with Iberia.

MIA-LHR will get a second daily in April 2008 pending slot acquisitions. AA is actively looking for two more Heathrow slots, one for MIA, the other for DFW, in addition to the two they just acquired.

The next route from Miami will probably be the resumption of daily Antigua service, and AA is hoping to be able to squeeze this in for the December 13th schedule change. An incentive package by the Antiguan government, and some travel contracts with local resorts, are being worked out as we speak and an announcement might be made within two weeks. This would mean three of the five MIA routes ended after 9/11 will be back this December: ANU, BAQ, and SAV.

I noticed that there's no mention of increased service to Chavezuela... I guess the new time zone is throwing things off. 😉

Good news to see some of these routes finally materialize and others returning. If expanding service to Spain and revenue sharing means AA adds and IB pulls back, that's great news as well. IB's service in J is worse than AA's by a long shot.

What I'd really like to see is some more service to Europe from west of the Rockies, but that's probably asking for too much. I'm really tired of connections over ORD: the last three times I've connected there I've arrived late and had extremely short connect times on the eastbound leg, and had to sit forever on the westbound side due to delays. At least when DFW-LHR starts up, that opens up some new opportunities to double connect...

After getting as many China, and LHR slots as possible, the main emphasis(IMO) should be a heavy push to "SYD", Quantas, or no Quantas.

AA does'nt need to coptcat UAL to asia !
AA does'nt need to copycat NW to Asia !
AA does'nt need to copycat DL to Europe

But AA needs to have a presence in every continent, and Australia/NZ, and certain parts to Africa are a "glaring void" !!!!!

The time for a dozen 777-200 LR Worldliners is upon us !

OK, Eolesen....your turn !

Sorry, NH/BBs, but I don't see Australia as the next big destination. 777LRs? QF is buying A380s to fly SYD-LAX and UA still flies 744s - so is there any real unmet needs for AA to capitalize on?

China has a population of about 1.35 billion or so, while Australia has a population of about 21 million (just under 1.6% of China's population). China's economy (and population) is growing like gangbusters; Australia's is growing more modestly. I still see China as the big unmet need. Maybe ICN, KUL and SIN as well, but I don't see AA flying there nonstop on its own metal in my lifetime.
