You're right -- I can't wait to see President Rice's inaugural. 😉
Mark, traffic might be at record levels, but is it people escaping while they can, or people trying to get back in before the borders are closed down?...
Chavez assuming rule-by-decree has a lot of ramifications for business. One of our customers is based in Venezuela, and they're not even sure if they'll be allowed to pay their upcoming invoice or not. AA's already had problems in the recent past where they couldn't repatriate money for tickets bought in VEB's. If that happens again, all bets are off.
Travel between the US and Venezuela remains very healthy. I'll be going there on business in two weeks to Maracaibo. Yes, there is a large move of people that are escaping Venezuela and moving to the US, mainly Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, but the market is huge, always has been, always will be. Miami-Caracas is the second most traveled route between the US and Latin America, and that isn't changing despite the political turmoil going in the country. I understand the troubles facing the country now and in the next few years, but unless the US actually cuts off ties with Venezuela, traffic will remain stable.
