Winter 2006/07 Schedule Changes

ZRH was originally moved from ORD to DFW when the Swissair codeshare started up, so it's about time that it moved back.

I'd expect to see LAX-SYD long before DFW-SYD.

The flights both co-existed, with ORD-ZRH being seasonal. O'Hare flights were canceled in September 2001 (not a result of 9/11; the cancelation was announced the day before).

Wouldn't LAX-SYD be considered bad manners in light of the codeshare/OneWorld partnership with Qantas?

A GOOD point jimntx !!

First off, Quantas, or no Quantas, If AA can operate the route at a profit, I think we will see it.

Second, with Quantas AND UA flying LAX/SYD, why "triplicate" things ??

With DFW as the "mother hub", DFW/SYD would operate "unchallenged", and would tie in the Whole AA system(including CA, OR, WA) rather nicely.

A question.

Will the current 777's have the range for DFW/SYD, or would they have to pick up a few 777-200 LR Worldliners ??

I've always thought that a SYD route out of DFW would do nicely and be a mid continent jumping-off point for many of our connections here. Why does it have to be out of LAX competing with other carriers including QF when we could be the sole carrier in this region of the US.

IMHO, I don't think our current 777's have the range since DEL is our longest route and DFW-SYD would be roughly 1100 miles further. Moderaator? Mark?

First of all... there is no "U" in Qantas.... it's an acronymn for Queensland And Northern Territories Air Service.

Second... Using LAX as a jumping off point is a matter of useful range. LAX-SYD is almost exactly the same distance as ORD-DEL on a great circle routing:

ORD DEL 7484 mi
LAX SYD 7488 mi
---------------
ORD HKG 7794 mi
---------------
SYD DFW 8578 mi
---------------

ORD-DEL is already cutting it close in the winter, so I don't think 8500 miles is doable.

Plus, unlike ORD-DEL, almost all of that routing assumes 207 minutes ETOPS over some very sparcely populated ocean... The LAX routing tracks several hundred miles closer to Hawaii.

Hey, we could maybe offer DFW-HNL-SYD!

Or, if you want to keep the stop on the mainland, I bet NOBODY is doing DFW to Needles, CA to SYD. It's a market just ripe for the taking.

Great and open a crew base in HNL! 3rd times the charm I hear.

Isn't Air Canada starting a YYZ-LAX-SYD route on the 777 sometime this year? I thought I remember reading that somewhere.

I have sat in Business and Coach on their services from NRT to SYD and SIN to FRA and they offer a great product. Me thinks AA would be hard pressed to compete with that.

Air Canada ordered 777-200LR/300ER. They also did 787's.

AA should do DFW to Auckland and separatly nonstop to Sydney. This requires 777-200LR, since more long range routes would be nice. South Africa from JFK and/or Miami, Dubai from ORD or JFK, more India, Hong Kong is long overdue from ORD and DFW, and too many more to list.

I realize now my post makes no sense. I was referring to Qantas in the last paragraph. AA competing against QF on LAX to SYD would be a hard sell.

No more drinking and typing for me

Effective December 14th - The Daytime MIA-GRU flight gets changed to another all-nighter. 1205pm departure now moved to 1000pm. Still 3 nonstops between MIA-GRU.

Someone posted an assertion on Flyertalk that Delta had been granted an additional daily ATL-GRU which will fly during the daytime; any word on whether AA will receive any extra Brazil frequencies to compensate for Varig's near death experience?
