For the people in Charlotte. I heard what I hope is true & thus good news. Some of the very senior early morning abr guys said we are getting back freight & mail & also that US wants to expand catering. Have any of the rest of you heard this ?


Also one of my co-workers who was up at Burger King Fr. said a shift manger from US was up there handing out business cards telling them US would be hiring soon. Also great news. Any one have info. on that ?

Nonsense.

I am sure the early morning ABR guys would like an easier job, but they are paid twice what the contractors get.

Before the new contract went through we had what were called "TA" supervisors that were team leads which had the "temporary assignment" of being supervisors for a shift in which they had a ramp to oversee and had the collared shirts, etc. Unlike regular sups they were allowed to perform work if they had to. I can't remember if they were initially allowed to perform disciplinary functions or not but I know that during the latter days of this setup they had to get a real supervisor to handle any kind of paperwork. I do not know if there was a pay differential for a lead acting as a TA sup.

After the contract went through the TA setup was abolished and the Unit Lead position came along with the responsibilities I described above. While there may not be any such position explained in the GOM, contract, or anywhere per se this was still an improvement (IMO) because there was now clear delineation between what authorities were relegated to management and what were relegated to the ramp. One of the other benefits is that now instead of some idiot with "management experience" (but none ramp) trying to look pretty and run a front line airline operation we now have experienced uniformed leads that understand the challenges, needs, and processes first hand.

How one becomes a UL or is chosen to be is not a clear process however. Ramp management has a number of go-to TL's they typically assign to be UL's. Some fit into the UL position and prefer it. Some don't mind it if it's not an every day affair. Some are tired of being assigned UL and hate doing it, I would say that any lead that shows interest in being a UL could easily get "trained" on it and become one as honestly Unit Leading is not something most leads in PHX want to do. Some are not cut out for it. Some would do it very well but don't want to take on the extra responsibilities or perform what they consider to be glorified babysitting.

I think one of the things ramp management here is leery of is if UL was made a biddable position few would actually bid it and they'd be stuck with a bunch of unqualified or unwilling TL's junior-assigned into running a ramp; as such they'd rather choose from shift to shift who the UL's will be based on their abilities and experience in already doing it.

thanks for the explanation. still have some concerns though guess I can get in touch with your AGC about . 1. a Lead Agent position

is suppose to be a biddable position Now if the company wants to have some stability in the UL (or in clt the Assign Lead) then they can make

that a CLOSED BID which means you only bid in that work group and if you want out then you put in for a in-station transfer same as for going in to it

So from where I'm sitting up on my branch it seems some senority violations are occuring . 2nd concern or issue is about the TL (lead agent)

pulls the load plan , puts in the numbers . My question to that is why . Good ole Dale said 3 years ago that was only until the company got

EVERYONE through class and checked off on using the computer. For example in CLT any person working the flight and pull up the trip sheet

decide how to load it and then put the numbers in the person who does that is designated the "counter" for that particular flight and that can and is

rotated through the rest of the crew for the rest of the shift. That way everyone gets there time in the bins and also gets to be a counter. A big plus in

that is more effiency and it keeps everyone in check . If the "counter" just counts flt after flt day in day out and likes to throw 10 bags on the belt at once

and kill his bin guys then we have the opportunity to return the favor when HE is stacking.

A perfect example of this is right here between our 2 committee people one posts "its the employees fault and we can't do anything unless you tell us" and the other committee person (posted below) "they are getting lunches just no in that time frame" so you see you guys know theres a problem but yield to managements side.


These people should have come to the committee if a shop steward did nothing for them.





Might I remind everyone that the time frame for lunches was mutally agreed upon by the company so hold them up to their end of the bargain .



The language actually is very weak. "The company will make every effort to schedule meal periods for full-time employees within ninety minutes before or after their midpoint of their shift." The language would be better if it said shall or will schedule a lunch within 90 minutes of the midpoint of their shift.

The easiest way to handle not getting a lunch, is to just take one. You dont refuse any work. You just tell the manager or assign lead, that your flight will get worked, but that it might go out a little late because you guys are taking your 30 minutes to eat. Or some of you are going to get sick and have to go home. Believe me, it works, they will find someone to either download or upload your flight when you tell them this, because they dont want it to go out late. But you tell them your not refusing to work it, but that your just taking your break. Some people have to grow a set, and act like adults. Ive never not taken my 30 minutes, and there has been plenty of days when we didnt have that much time. But the work still gets done. Its amazing where youll get with managment when you stand up to them a little.

Does anyone have any current information on the status of the outsourcing grievance?


Darlin' I just hate to be the one to tell you, as you can see no one else could bring themselves to, so I will. I don't want to be ugly, but, the boys who gave you false hope are down right despicable. Honey, I am not sure if those boys just don't have any sense, or if they just didn't bother to read the contract. Could be a little of both, along with a big dose of cowardice. Those fast talking, small thinking, agc's thought they could shut you up by stringing you along with their empty promises of fighting this. They think they can outwit the members they are suppose to protect. Maybe we need to give them some time on exile island! They try to calm you down with visions of sugar plums. They just hope you go away and disappear, never to be heard from again. Then they can continue to sing and dance for the others, impressing them with their hypnotical song, believing members will stay under their trance, and not see the truth. Maybe Sugar, you are coming out of the trance and seeing them for who they are! Bless their hearts, they can sing a pretty song. It is clear in the contract that the company was within it's rights to contract out MKE. Baby, don't get me wrong, I am so sorry for all of you. It just breaks my heart to see my Brothers and Sisters out on the street. Have you thought about joining us here in PHX? Sweetie, you know our winters are nice here. Come on down. The early morning ABR guys have also declared Cold Fusion as reality, along with Time Travel!

These revelations will ultimately set the scientific world upside down, and reveal an entire parallel universe... where Airlines/Corporations actually care about their workers, and everyone is happy!
