TWU negotiations.........what?

People, people, please! Haven't we realized over the years that the only union at American Airlines is the Credit Union?

Excellent point.

I did, however, receive an item this am from the TWU (local 514) regarding the suspension of JLT and PLT participation while the "Executive Board assesses our current participation in this process", but I'm quite certain Steve Luis didn't decide to do that without the company's approval as a motion had been made to put the participation to a membership vote.

Far better to "reassess" internally than to hold a vote determining whether or not to continue - it's rather evident he and the company both know what the result will be and would, perhaps, complicate Luis's hope for a company job after his gig with the "union".

Dont be fooled by Luis' tricks.

He takes the vote away from the membership to use the participation as a manipulation tool.

If the membership was allowed to vote he would be bound to follow. By using the E-board, once the manipulation requirement is satisfied they will be right back licking the boot.

He is either too stupid to see that a membership vote by large numbers to get out, would give a stronger message than his little tactics that prevent the membership from involvement in our own damn union, or this guy is really no different than previous leaders of the TWU Local, "They are the Union" while they print and distribute t-shirts that claim the members are.

Coward or Stupid, or maybe even both.

Give me a New Leader, Give me a New Constitution, or Give me a New Union.

I implied nothing of the sort - you know exactly what I tried to say but tried to twist the words as any good management type would do.

No, evidently I missed what you "tried" to say, why not "try" again and please be more specific. How did you derive that I was a "management type"..... was that an implication or are you "trying" to say something else? And please.... be more specific. Thanks! In the future I'll try to be more specific also. I guess you missed the sarcasm and disgust I feel for our comanay and union leadership....I'm far from being a "management type"..... well, enough about me.... hows bout you??? J/K and sorry for the hijack in a way.

Sorry to sound so negative but I feel we've jumped through enough hoops already. Lets get on with it. We've gave up enough. There is nothing more to trade. Its time to for the company's leadership to either pay us what we are worth or shut it down. Better yet, pay us what we are worth and step aside and let some new blood in to run the show. How can anyone have faith in people that are pretty much in it for themselves.....

I wish more people on the committee felt that way. Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to the company when I'm debating some of these guys.

We gave the company billions in concession, hundreds of millions in productivity improvements and I still hear we have to give something to get something, and not just from the company.

We give our labor, thats what we are selling, that has enough value in itself to warrant us getting back everything we gave up, what most of competitors already have. The airline continues to run because we all show up and do our jobs everyday. Some people need to be reminded of that.

Bob,

What you speak of is exactly why AA spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in a lawsuit defending the TWU during the AMFA drive. All to prevent distribution of the truth while they worked together spreading fear and lies about what change would bring.

I am convinced they hire employees with specific intructions for them to run for union office and keep tabs on folks like you and me.

Thanks for all your efforts, but it really is still evident that nothing has nor is it going to change.
All they are doing is paying you guys to keep quiet about the truth.

Bob, You may not be my local President but I'm glad you are New York's! I am unsure how my prez. (565) votes behind closed doors so it is good that you are willing to try and stand up to the company and the bend-over type boys on the negotiating committee. The union's proposal is plain and simple just laying down before management's demands. I hope we get to vote on exactly what the union proposed and there is a resounding NOOOOOOOO vote. It is a slap in the face and should be treated as such. Unfortunately there are no do-overs. The latest union proposal has just served to completely deplete morale and hope for myself and fellow mechanics in Austin. Please keep giving us as much info as is allowed under the (totalitarian) rules.

Hence the company paying the presidents salaries! It is a small investment for the company as compared to the return they get on their investment. Leaders should lead by example not for self serving reasons. If we were a transparent organization then the real underlying decisions would surface. That is why they are against publishing votes from the presidents council and committee minutes to the membership. why shoud we know? what rights do we have to be directly involved in the process?
Unfortunately, Bob Owens is in the small minority of presidents who see the big picture

Chuck, since this is what's going on, wouldn't it be a shame if any documents from Little Jimmy stating such and the penalties for doing so were leaked along with some voting records?

It would take quite a lot to get the ATD membership angry enough to remove their problem. It might even land the company in hot water with the Feds.

That would just be horrible, wouldn't it?

Start reminding the president of Local 561 you probably see him more than we do

"The Lawyers are on the Steps"

I just wanted to be the first to say it so we wouldn't hear it first from management and the company union.

There, I feel better now.

I will laugh louder when I hear it from Chicken Jim himself

If Jim Little is the focus of your attention with everything that is going on at the Company, in the industry, and around the world - we are in trouble as a union. Pretty easy to call other people out on a website blog. I'm new to this site and I've asked the question many times, what do you suggest we do to save our jobs and and keep AA running?
