TWU negotiations.........what?

Thats bull. First of all by lowering our demands we screwed ourselves if the company does go BK and whether of not they go BK has nothing to do woth us, the pilots may have some effect due to their big pensions but us, no way.

Look at whats going on in the industry, The IBT is in talks with Continental, their dispatchers (TWU?) just got a 13% increase over 4 years and they didnt give up nearly as much as we did. (10% raise and a 3% 401K contribution in addition to their pension). Continental alraedy earns around $10k more than we do.

The IBT contract at UAL becomes amendable in December. UAL can only threaten Liquidation, the IBT has something to prove or they will likely be decertified, UAL has gone from the IAM to AMFA to IBT.

I believe the IBT is also involved in AirTran.

The IBT may be organizing Jet Blue. I spoke nto a few of their mechanics and they are fed up with the kool aid, they feel they are structured like SWA they want to be paid like SWA.

You have to remember that the IBT represents UPS and they are at the top of the scale as far as A&P pay. The IBT usually doesnt like wide gaps between members who do the same work. In the past they've raided unions that they felt sold their members labor at rates that were less than they were able to get. Look for the IBT to make big demands at UAL, AirTran and maybe Jet Blue.

Right now we are already on the lower end of the scale for majors. By 2011 we will likely be number 5 or 6 in pay with an unprecidented gap between us and the top. By 2011 we will lag SWA, the number two in pay for aircraft mechanics.
I agree. But why were you not able to convince the others on the negotiating committee the merits of your position?

Hello Dan

I got it from Jetnet. Under 'Policies and Procedures', 'Resources And Manuals', 'Collective Bargaining Agreements', 'TWU Fleet Service', Article 1, Page 1, Paragraph c . Agreement dated April 15, 2003.

Is this not the current contract in effect at AA for Fleet Service?
Rogallo,

Maintenance and Related lost any and all claim to any staffing agreements through the loss of the BWI/CLE Arbitration and the failure of Local 562 to proceed on a greivance based on station staffing at CLT.

Local 562 decided to withdraw a greivance because they would not accrue any benefit from enforcing the contract. The current president of local 562 is not a factor in that the TWU International had removed both Owens and Schalk for dual unionism.

With regard to my sources within the ramp leadership: you need at least 10 years to keep your job.

What are we talking about, Fleet Service or Maintenance and Related?

I always find my position much easier than these arguements amongst officers that are stuck with nowhere else to turn....

....The TWU Still Sucks and Needs to be Replaced. Pretty Simple, Straight Forward, and True.

Boomer,

Thanks for providing the insight into what I was getting at. The twu lost all rights for Mechanic and Related workers to grieve the # of flights issue as long as there are Fleet Service clerks manning the stations. That leads me to the more important issue. Fleet service still staffs more stations than Mechanic & Related workers at AA. Also, we have more AMTs on the street and have for the last 6 years than our Fleet Service bretheren.

Wonder why?

Proud Non-member of the twu!

ps. Sorry that our contractual needs at AA are on hold! When AA wanted money back from us the twu sent around Bubbalievers to sell their program at every level. I remember our old e-board from 2003 selling the FEAR!! It only took a total of 11 months from the date that Captain Randy Babbitt, now Director of the FAA, and his company ECLAT presented, on behalf of American Airlines Inc., the financial scare to the twu, APA, and APFA (June 2002) to the final sellout in April 2003. A total of 11 months. What an insult to all of us that these talks are already into the second year and virtually no progress! Typical AA owned and controlled twu. And all we get is more twu former officers turned managers. Great!

Hey you forgot to include the Fed Ex AMTs in the top tier for pay and benefits. I found it ironic when not too long ago Arpey and crew were justifying their pay by using comparisons with CEOs and the like from other companies, and on that list was UPS & Fed Ex executives. Conveniently enough, they don't like to include the pay of the AMTs at UPS or Fed Ex in AMT pay comparisons. Also, managements AMT pay comparison chart needs to be updated, since the AMTs (scabs) at the once proud NWA have been upgraded in pay to the Delta pay rate.

The memerships of all the locals must speak up and ensure their leaders are representing their members and are motioning and voting in negotiations in the way that the members would want them to if they were able to be at negotiations themselves.

Given the fact that our negotiations are closed (no observers) to let us (the membership) know who the sellouts are on our side. There is no record of what was said and by whom, so it is difficult to speak out on what you have no info on. The way it is, the membership has to rely on those who were elected to represent the membership - not the union or some political agenda.

Ask your President how the other Presidents voted at your next union meeting. If he doesn't tell you then don't vote for him next election. You have a right to know how all the Presidents voted. Period!

How about President's refusing to present proposal's from the membership to the company?

What do we do as members in the next election?

I see you don't have any interest to reply ken, so "Charlie Taylor and I" will answer the question for you.....

Vote the President out and start over at 4-14-2003.......
