New Call Sign

Yeah, maybe yoru right... We can all have YOUR attitude while we end up shutting down, and standing in the unemployment line. I don't know what I was thinking. Let's keep on gripping about these types of issues. You are so wise.

Sweetie: If you think that waving some pom poms and cheering has anything of substance to do with sustaining a viable corporate entity, enhancing productivity, altering it's strategic focus, or otherwise accomplishing squat, other than to give you a warm fuzzy feeling......well..let's just note that we're not on the same perceptive page here. As for my "attitude"?..You've gotta' be kidding me. What's at all cheerleader non-approvable by noting that any reasonable minds would have put the operation together with the least intended employee friction? = "Why not have wisely chosen something that neither "side" of the contentious pilot group could have taken any umbrage at?"

Ummmmm..."unless of course, the actual intent IS to keep the employees at each other's throats?....."

If any rational management wants to motivate employees...they honestly know better than to just pass out some pom poms and Koolaide for the long run, and keep hoping for mindless submission and "joy"...regardless of how well that apparrently works on some, for awhile at least, or not...

I dont look at myself as a cheer leader or anything like that. I figure it this way, and some of my co-workers feel the same way. Can't we all just get along, I mean look at all the postings on this one subject, 20 pages. Have there been changes implamented by the compnaty to make it better, I don't know, but we obviously are doing something right for us to get 7 consecutive No. 1's in OTP. You make some very valid points, and i honestl cannot disagree with you. I get frustrated with things just like you. but enough is enough. I can't believe anyone, with the exception of the WWF would want to raise an issue that would pit employees against employees. Like you I rely on the pay check, I look forward to the travel, (when I can) and enjoy the people I work with. I don't know how it is where you are. But, I guess I am just gettig old, What can I say.

(heck, i'm not even a pilot and I know you don't taxi to the gate after a no-flaps landing for a bit..)

In fullest fairness to the west folks, who have established a fine safety record over time..I don't believe that the poster you've noted is any pilot out there...or anywhere for that matter.

But, I guess I am just gettig old, What can I say.

Fully understood here...Heck..I've already gotten old  I've not the least beef with trying to do whatever any and all can to make the place succeed and survive. Please don't think that for even a moment, as it's certainly not the case at all with me. Where we differ seems to be in having any ability to put real faith in the decision making processes to date. You noted: "I can't believe anyone, with the exception of the WWF would want to raise an issue that would pit employees against employees." My problem with that, having survived a bit of business schooling myself...is that I know better, and realize that the most vile connivances are often perfomed on employee groups for purely manipulative gains......One's even directly instructed in "Lie, Cheat and Steal" if you will, within the hallowed halls of our esteemed educational institutions for business training....Trust me on that.

PS: I aplologize for the "Sweetie" lead in. I guess that I get easilly frustrated with how things are done, as opposed to how I know that things truly could be for all of us...given different "circumstances" at upper levels.

Apology accepted... Tough times ahead, but I truly believe things will get better. Heck, I'm always telling my wife, there are people worse off than we are.

I like the cactus call sign because it will always be a reminder of who is really in charge and how badly they screwed up the "new" US Airways! Now if we could just wipe off the US Airways name and put AWA on them.

We could only hope. To finally get rid of that name that has had such a negative image on so many consumers for so long. Well at least we will be part way there Sept 1. Wish it was a new call sign though. Neither "Cactus" or "US Airs" truly exist anymore.

If you are a Passenger Service employee, you do realize that American West management try to take your seniority away form you like the pilot group

Whats the history of the cactus callsign? It seems I was told once that when aw started their call sign was "america west" or something similar and the faa made them change it cause it was too similar to "american". So they had a company contest to submit suggestions and "cactus" was the winner! If this is true, who submitted the winning " cactus", is that person still there or retired and what were some of the entries that didn't win?

You know what, and this is just me personnaly, As long as I have a job, and the ability to come to work in the morning without them telling me, "oh sorry, we closed our doors today, I don't really care. I've been in this industry way to long, and have seen a lot of my very good friends furloughed, or on the street due to their airline closing, and I have also been through a couple of losses with friends and family passing on doing what they loved in this business and being told they would do it all again. I appreciate you feelings on this, but thats how I stand.

I've been in this industry way to long,
American West executives issued a letter calling for a change in seniority to advantage America West agents in the merger process. DOH system in CWA contract provides a fair and level playing field to all employees, management exaggerating the issue of seniority and polarizing the employees of both airlines.

but then folks like NiceLandingCaptain will be flying YOUR A330s across the atlantic and destroying the brake systems and killing people as they pull up to the gate cause the wheels will be on fire and causing the entire plane to go up in flames!

(heck, i'm not even a pilot and I know you don't taxi to the gate after a no-flaps landing for a bit..)

Are you sure you're not a pilot?????? Because you would have fooled me with that little stream of consciousness... I'm going to nominate that for most intelligent post of the year. "......folks like NiceLandingCaptain will be flying your A330s across the Atlantic and destroying the brake systems and killing people as they pull up to the gate cause the wheels will be on fire and causing the entire plane to go up in flames!"

wow

Yep, that NLC rant was a weird, incoherent "thought". I wasn't going to say anything until you brought it up, but maybe this person, after having reached their full potential in life in a simple, customer service field, just doesn't realize how clueless they are. I mean, what do you think they would know about the green, yellow or blue systems, brake fans or anything else systems-wise? Here is my guess- nothing.

Are you saying that NLC IS actually, no kidding, no BS, a "pilot" within your group!!??

As for "but maybe this person, after having reached their full potential in life in a simple, customer service field,"..You've GOT to be joking!!??...aren't you? I'd love to see you take on the position of any "simple customer service field", especially within the chaotic airline enviornment of today. Some people's insane arrogance knows NO bounds whatsoever...Talk about "Simple"...sheesh!!

Without those amazing people, beating themselves half to death sometimes daily, within those "simple customer service fields"...you/none here would have passengers to fly anywhere, and all would be out of jobs. If you've any arrogant fantasies that the truest mark of anyone having reached their "full potential in life' amounts to flying winged buses about....you've got so much to learn about life that words simply do not serve me here...and you're speaking volumes about yourself in any case.

PS: Prechilled..What was posted, based upon that NLC = fantasy-based character's nonsense, was perfectly sensible. QUOTE (SegmentKing @ Aug 24 2008, 01:09 PM) (heck, i'm not even a pilot and I know you don't taxi to the gate after a no-flaps landing for a bit..) Frankly..I'd take SegmentKing's observations as far more reasonable than yours....much less NLC's utter nonsense. Are you truly telling us all that your, and NLC's "interesting" sort of "thinking" is what actually accompanies the proud cactus callsign?

Point of interest.

A330s don't have brake fans, Bucko. You post like you actually know something, but the content proves otherwise.
