New Call Sign

With the cockpit door closed, I don't care what the call sign is. You can say Cactus a zillion times and get your fill. Cactus, Cactus, Cactus. As long as US Airways is still painted on the fuselage and my inflight announcements make zero reference to AWA or Cactus. Ewwwwe

Come on. You KNOW that a lot of the west crews will be using "Cactus" in their welcome aboard announcements.


"Ladies and gentlemen, from the flight deck, this is Captain Leonidas and I wish to add my welcome aboard Cactus Flight 123 from Phoenix to Salt Lake City...yadda....yadda...yadda..."

It's more than just a call sign for ATC. It's a license to attempt to keep a dead airline alive indefinitely, and Bular's feeble attempt to kiss up to the folks who "hate" him.

As for me...I'm practicing to be ready for September 1st. "New York Center, Catpiss 982, flight level 270."

Maybe you should find an opprtunity to go for a ride on "West Metal" some day soon.

I think you would find it refreshing to find that the West does an outstanding job operating as USAirways. Sure, there will be isolated instances of individual crewmembers clinging to the America West PA's, but mostly rare instances.

It must have been a traumatic personal experience for you not be able to say "Piedmont" on the radio and PA. I"ve heard about the post PI/US merger diatribes on the PA by PI pilots and F/A's. Makes the West's efforts pale in comparison.

I can't believe that this whole "call sign" issue has taken up so much bandwith. The call sign is "Cactus", effective September 1. Get over it and get on with a new contract.

You've worked for an airline that's been on it's deathbed most of the past 15-20 years. Talk about a dead airline being kept alive indefinitely......this is the one.

Keep practicing that call sign, even an old widebody guy like you can get it right by September 1.

Actually, the day the call sign changed from "Pidemont" to "USAir," I made the switch and NEVER again used the "Piedmont" call sign, even accidentally. I don't recall any trauma at all. And, even though I went from number 350 or so to number 1850 (due in large part to you PSA pilots,) I didn't send poop through the mail to anybody.

Does "poop through the mail" really pale by comparison to the words of animosity spoken by some of my Piedmont colleagues? Interesting perspective yours.

Don't pay him no mind. He does have an interesting perspective, worth listening to, once. Sorta like listening to a terrorist. He'd be great at speakers corner. Buy him a charitable beer and move on.
 
They should have come up with a brand new airline name too. That was merger mistake #137!
US management is known to be half-arsed in every area they choose to participate in. Tempe seems to have been perfectly matched to Crystal City.

Just think what they could do if they actually worked.
 
If the EASTIES start saying CACTUS will the little boys flying the 757 into DCA stop putting up the USAPA SCABS clipboard in the windscreen---or---will the WESTIE F/A's not tell the agents not to let pre-board EAST crews down early---my o my
