You are correct. We're just trying to figure out the rumor of just putting the West Fleet with the East CBA. Nothing really has changed yet
the rumor was started when the company put out Al's letter to the breakrooms. It caused confusion since alot of rampers didn't pay attention to the company letterhead.
In some stations, maybe all, the shift managers were saying 'this is from your union'. That's how the rumor started.
No, there's been no talk and NOBODY agreed to what Hemenway said the union agreed to. That was inaccurate. If so then Canale was involved in sidebar talks and didn't advise the NC.
The east isn't interested in merging the west into the east contract without $20hr, and most of the west stations aren't interested in losing 1,200 jobs. I do think it is fair to say that PHX is interested in that. The thing that is lacking in PHX is leadership. LAS has leadership and they know the pitfalls better than PHX does.
Further, merging the west into the east contract would cost up to 1,200 jobs. Not sure how the west does furloughs but PHX may look alot different with alot of those from PHX losing their jobs to higher seniority coming in from the stations that would close. Many in PHX might be losing their job before they get any raise. Those 1,200 workers have to go somewhere.
At any rate, major changes in a contract require a vote. Remember, this even included the lead referendum back in 2002. I know there were some saying that if the last TA didn't have the extension that there wouldn't need to be a vote but that isn't true. The change of control language, wage progression scale, profit sharing, and about another half dozen issues were major changes and could have been challenged in court within 6 months.
