What's new

Winter 2006/07 Schedule Changes

A lot of winter timetable changes have been uploaded, but mainly just some frequency changes, not new routes.

St. Louis-Puerto Vallarta resumes 16Dec06, runs through April.

No sign of MIA-PHX yet, but they sure didn't have trouble finding a spare 757 for a seventh daily(!) MIA-LAX flight starting 16Dec06.

What kind of aircraft STL-PVR?

You never give up on that one.... I don't see MIA-PHX happening anytime soon.

We'll see. I never give up on it because I know for a fact AA is planning it and they have not ruled against it. It is still waiting to get the final go. It was delayed from it's original launch date in September, but I am confident they will launch the route.

Yeah, well, AA is planning on scheduled service to a half dozen cities in Cuba and hasn't ruled those out yet, either. But admittedly, there are some legal barriers there that have yet to be removed...

Best I can tell, you couldn't fill a CR70 most days with the existing MIA-PHX traffic. That would go up a bit with a nonstop, but there are far bigger fish to catch which could fill a MD80 today (i.e. AUS, SAT), and with the retirement of the PW powered 757 fleet, I don't think you'll see too many nonstops added at MIA which are outside the range of an MD80.

I know the higher ups in the division office probably feel differently (and I'll guess that's where your information is coming from), but I've always disagreed with the notion of adding routes purely for strategic value.

You can't get on a LAS flight from anywhere. BOS has a seasonal, if they put a 767 on that route it would be sold out every night.

Since when does an CRJ-700 sit 548 people? Because that is how many people fly between South Florida and Phoenix everyday. 175 of them depart from MIA, a number that will likely drop as people favour the FLL non-stops.

I agree with you that fleet utilization issues are a stumbling block, but that's about the only one. Lack of traffic certainly is not.

It is pretty difficult to upgrade a discontinued route a 763. BOS-LAS was a horrible performer and discontinued nearly two years ago.

Delta and aw now usair run the route every night. Having a super 80 on it was the problem. Delta would run a 767 with dinner. They are still full every night. If you look at the DFW-LAS and ORD-LAS they are jammed going out a month ahead. I know you know your stuff, but with the right equipment JFK-LAS or BOS-LAS would be a money maker.

Yes, and STL-LAS is always full also, but that doesn't mean we are making any money on these flights. Most of the passengers appear to be of the type--"Ah fly Amurrican 'cause it's cheaper'n Greyhound and Amtrak has that danged dress code." 😛

remember that LAS has the lowest average fares (and yields) than any other airport in the country - coupled with the still rising cost of Jet-A and the fact that it's basically a transcon - JFK/BOS-LAS would be a money siphon...

(Another "boorish" reminder, boys and girls) !

Remember, (uncle) Bobby said "We're NOT going to play that game of chasing DOMESTIC nickles and dimes" !!!!!

(Uncle Bobby/Arpey............the same "cloth"

Is'nt that right Bagbelt/(SW)

NH/BB's

Not to mention that 757 could be put better use, like a trans-atlantic flight.
