I've never heard of a major carrier having to hold job fairs to get pilot applicants either...

Jim

I went to a Northwest pilot job fair in I think it was 1983???

Also, I think most airlines have at one time or another actively recruited at Women In Aviation conventions and job fairs.

Plus, I believe ALPA would historically sponsor job fairs at airlines that were hiring, when there were members furloughed from other member airlines.

ALPA I can understand - help furloughed members find a job in the interim. Women and minorities are also understandable, if the carrier has few applications from those in those groups. I had forgotten about NW also - the time limit on recall rights they had, but I'm surprised they had to resort to job fairs.

If this is a case of US not having female or minority applicants, I can understand that. But otherwise, most big carriers have many applications on file for every opening.

I don't think it is a matter of having to resort to a job fair, as in it companies are desperate for pilots. I think it is just more of a personnel departments way of networking.

I agree that not only the big carriers, but even the commuters, fractionals,,,, everyone.... has a stack of resumes on their desk at any given time, and a mountain of completed applications when they are actively hiring. So it would make the idea of holding a job fair seem like overkill.

A new bottom for US

I know folks love to hate US but there are plenty of reasons aside form some supposed "first ever" participation in a job fair. This isn't the first time that a major has participated in pilot job fairs and it won't be the last. Swing and a miss.

Thats probrably because you haven't had to find an airline job from 95-present. Major airlines have always attended these fairs and I remember US Airways always attending those airinc job fairs in dca and atl. This is nothing new here, this fair in october the headline acts are US Airways and Delta.

Agreed. Not sure what the problem is. Job fairs are hardly a new thing.

And to further clarify, We are not holding a job fair for applicants. The company is attending an airline job expo held by a third party in vegas. There are like 10-15 varous airlines recruiting pilots. This really isn't a new concept.

Jim, Maybe you should start sticking to what you know best, checking on stewardess , I stand corrected flight attendants , job fairs have been going on for over fifteen years.

Actually the only substantial thing any pilot brought to the merger was a seniority number. The NIC provides for the integration of the East and West seniority numbers and any pilot can fly the line that his new seniority number can hold under the jont CBA. The possibility of fences, staples, or any other integration method ended on May 1, 2007 when the Nicolau arbitration award was released. Now if only the East pilots had the integrity to honor their agreements this issue would be long since past.
Actually we are an integrity minded group, we believe in USAPA our UNION and it"s CBL's, staples? The NIC is a bargaining proposal that would have failed a joint contract ratification under both ALPA and USAPA, we have integrity, get of your higher than moral attitude, if your boy is not up to his JNC duties have him resign or ask your him if he would take a POLYGRAPH over his I need help with my JNC duties or follow up for your DFR 2 notetaking! Other than that you are no more than flies at a picnic, but hey CALLoway, you are way fam with that poly aren't ya?MM!

Actually you completely lack integrity, point out for me if you will exactly where in the nic it says it's a proposal?

Here is a link to it, as I'm sure Userpa will not supply you with a copy

The NIC

On page 33 it's called an AWARD, not a propoal, but an Award!

Further it specifically states,

Page 33 (a) The integrated US Airwways Pilot Seniority list shall be the list attached to this AWARD as exhibit A

Doesn't say, "if they choose to use it" or "subject to further negotiation" or "if you like it"

No my friend, YOU COMPLETELY LACK INTEGRITY!

EAST PILOTS NEVER TO BE TRUSTED!

Having job fairs to hire pilots at a major airline is out of the ordinary….

Hiring at a major airline is out of the ordinary. It is cyclical. Just like every time the hurricanes cycle starts to popping again, chicken little starts to scream that global warming is going to do us all in. Back in he 70s it was the next ice age was upon us. Nothing new here. Move a long. :D

Prestige of an AWARD usually depends on the STATUS of the AWARDER, ALPA? No where in sight happy trails! MM!
