US Pilots Labor Discussion 9/9- STAY ON TOPIC AND OBSERVE THE RULES

I like how they are going to be recruiting pilots at a job fair in vegas sometime in october and haven't officially announced the intent of recalling all pilots. They are planning on hiring next year but haven't come up with a real plan on recalling everyone. Pretty shitty way to treat your employees who are anxious to return to work if you ask me, all they need to do is just say that they plan on recalling everyone by xyz date. Not sure why everything is super top secret around here.

With the job fair on Oct18th in LAS, the company will have to run classes in Nov and Dec to start hiring for Jan 2011.

I don't care how anyone spins this, to me it just means an additional 3 years of large rj's on the property not being flown by mainline pilots, f#$%&! great!
Did you think that large RJ flying was somehow going to go away? Ever!

How is anyone surprised by this?

And you guys wonder why we don't feel grateful to you east guys for locking us in PHX and out of any NEW ROUTES.

You get all the new routes out of PHX which is what you brought to the merger.

Remember that little ditty? Funny how it dried up on the PHX sun over the past year.

FWIW New hires Jan 2011. East only ( for attrition ).

Mainline US is at job fairs recruiting pilots?

As long as the contract allows it, there will be no change. Scope and code sharing should be priorities in the new contract, but they don't appear to be.

That's a huge price and not worth it, IMHO
It ensures the CRJ900s will continue to fly without interruption. There isn't any other way to keep that lift without a major impact to ongoing operations. That has a value to the company. It also sounds like that contract is still being renegotiated.

Actually the only substantial thing any pilot brought to the merger was a seniority number. The NIC provides for the integration of the East and West seniority numbers and any pilot can fly the line that his new seniority number can hold under the jont CBA. The possibility of fences, staples, or any other integration method ended on May 1, 2007 when the Nicolau arbitration award was released. Now if only the East pilots had the integrity to honor their agreements this issue would be long since past.

The CRJ900 is a really lousy product. They couldn't replace them with mainline E190s? I thought we had some options left on them.

Why would that be a good thing? Mesa pays much better than us air does for the 190 size ac.

Yes, it is true. job fair is in las in october, i think the 18th. US Airways is listed as a participant recruiting pilots for hiring in the near future. Guess the rumor is true that they are gearing up for some hiring after the first of the year. I read somewhere else that they were looking to hire up to 300 next year. time will tell! All furloughs better be back soon!

Options take time and money, as do the crews for the airplanes once they arrive.

With the new duty day regs coming soon and retirements on the horizon, they will have to start ramping up hiring and training.

When the cupboard is bare, that's about all you can say I guess ......

Well, if you're an East pilot around here, you can say that the West gets what's left of what they brought to the merger, while the East gets what left of what they brought to the merger plus any additions since the merger...

Would you take the Nic with the C&R's USAPA proposed? If all of you can't say "Yes" that tells you that what USAPA is offering is unfair.

I am very glad to hear the rumors of new hires in early 2011 and that we would then of course have the furloughs back by years end. However, I think you are confused about who brought what and where new hires would go.

I remember everyone talking about getting what we brought to the merger, but I do not recall West claims that we brought "PHX", that is a usapa thing.

Actually, what the West brought to the merger was a solvent airline with 142 aircraft, (we are down to fleet min around 122), plus a 40% equity stake in the new airline, plus the lionshare of the management team, plus somewhere over 10,000 employees, plus 1884 pilots (we are down to 1744, including numerous LOAs, 142 furloughed and the 6 out of seniority furloughs who went back east-look for them to be in play when we compute damages), plus we brought a few things the moderators do not like me discussing.

Any new hires would be placed where they are needed,(and both sides will need them), and if we are still under seperate ops the lucky ones will get to go West. They will get better pay on a 320 instead of a 190, plus better workrules. They would still have their system seniority relative on the Nic and furlough protection as a result of east attrition if West attrition does not outpace any PHX reductions.

Sawweee, you really do not have anything to offer new hires that will pit them against the West.
