No sweat, Ace. What WAS your point?

A320 Driver,

These guys out west have all the answers. And if they don't have the answer they have some go to guys like 767jetz and Oscarjazz. A UAL and Delta dynamic duo! They know what is best for us old guys back east. AWA was a world class carrier with tons of cash and a route structure that was the envy of the industry. That Cactus call sign is another industry envy. I was hopeful that we could get on that AWA contract ASAP. The west has been a leader in the industry for decades. When this merger took place they had $116 million dollars and the US Government owned 1/3 of the operation. They were a growing thriving powerhouse........Team Tempe was the cream of the crop to merge with.

I don't know why guys on our side want separate operations. I think the west has so much to offer us in the east. We could really use some help back here.

They grew from zero to 140 airplanes while we shrunk from 400 to 230 airplanes,we filed bankruptcy multiple times, and we made a billion dollars cash disappear buying back our own stock.

Team Tempe was the only one who would have us.

I thought it was TWO billion! Oh well, what's a billion give or take. :p

TJ,
Do you have a rat in your pocket! because I don't know who you mean when you say 'We".

Regardless of who you refer too, taking a snapshot of a period of time in this industry and then make a comparison shows how moronic you and anyone else who makes similar remarks are. You fly the plane, that's it!

I don't need you to tell me what my job is.

In the context of the post I was responding to "we" are USAirway vs "them", America West.

If you don't consider yourself a part of the company that's your right.

Name another airline that percentage wise shrunk as much as we did or percentage wise threw away as much cash buying back stock.

As far as being moronic, you have no idea how little your opinion means to me.

If I didn't respond to your post, and actually ignored you, then my obsession for your posts wouldn't be so obvious.

...while we shrunk from 400 to 230 airplanes,we filed bankruptcy multiple times, and we made a billion dollars cash disappear buying back our own stock...
Not sure about the timeline here...seems to me during this period we (USAirways) drove them (AWest) out of CMH. When we had our 400+ airplanes, Mr Wolf adroitly opened the purse strings and bought back all the stock he shouldn't have (IMO this should be illegal to do). This singular even, driven by greed, guaranteed our trip through bk after 9-11 (mainly from the closure of DCA for so long).
During the bk the F100 fleet was parked, the MD80's were parked, probably some 737-300's too. Massive shrinkage and furloughs.
Thank you, Messrs. Wolf & Gangwal.

If we had not driven them out of CMH our strategically important Dayton and Pittsburgh operations might have been in danger.

I'm not telling you what your job is, but now that you mentioned it...It is only a job. One that once the cockpit door is shut, I personally still love.

I've also been a part of this company for more than 26 years now and have seen no fewer than 7 CEO's come and go with now another I would like to see leave. With the exception of maybe 2 of them, they were only here to enrichen themselves, not truly run a business. So please leave the 'we' stuff for your kids, it makes for great bedtime stories along with that fish you caught!

Unlike you and many others who frequent this forum, I am not claiming to hold a greater or lesser stake in our current company because of the actions or should I say mismanagement of others. Who gives a cr*p about how much "we" shrunk or stock that was bought back. It didn't affect how I do my job or the years of dedicated service I have provided my passengers and crew. THAT is how I want to be remembered.

For you and others that want to stake claim to something you never had any control of, go ahead and beat yourselves up! It must be some sort of game to see who can sound the smartest with the words you write.

What is funny is, with the exception of 1 or 2 of you, none of you sound unintelligent, so I get a kick out of coming to this forum on my overnights just to see if you all can agree on something!

Still hoping!

The above video of Mr Parker in February 2007 saying that America West would have to file for BK, is not noted in Mr Nicolau's findings in May 2007. Mr Nicolau, with the help of the ALPA "neutrals" pronounced America West alive and thriving, USAirways dead.

The Nicolau findings

Mr Bloch's finding

America West Pilots pay

Allow me to be the devils advocate for a moment. Just for argument sake. Thank you.
You mean this part here where Nicolau says.

Our view is that neither picture is persuasive. The US Airways reliance on post-merger statements by America West's CEO, clearly made to assuage growing concerns of America West pilots who had seen a post-merger end to hiring, an increasing return of longfurloughed US Airways pilots and a flattening in their own advancement, 'is misplaced. Equally so is America West's insistence that US Airways was about to disappear. Yet, it cannot be disputed that there were differences in the financial condition of both carriers and that US Airways was the weaker. This necessarily means that career expectations differed and that US Airways pilots had more to gain from the merger than their new colleagues.
