TWU negotiations.........what?

That is the jist of DFW,Rob Peter to pay Paul.
AA management cut the line crews down to 5 and beefed up LTS (bag transfer).Of course LTS doesn't assist all trips. With one less crew member, bag delivery time increases as well as possible mis-connects. If this "extra man" is not needed to run bags ,he can assist in loading revenue mail/freight. Mail is complaining about a loss of 1 million a month due to no loads. No extra man/time.....cut mail/freight!
With pressure being on AA management, they have rehired a former AA'er (Sheila Henry) as a consultant,to review delays as well other personnel to monitor T-Link (bag transfer system).
With a new bid coming in Sept,AA is putting the 6th man back on the line and reducing LTS. AS OF NOW !
There is no job action, employees are working by AA rules and regulations!

Yessir - 100% verbatim, exactly as we were told to do by the company.

That is the way things are at AA these days.

Hire a Consulting Group that cuts heads and adjust the work load. Then when the crap falls to pieces, scratch yer head and wonder if the Union or Labor is causing grief.

Then hire another Consulting Group to review and re-invent the Wheel.

Arpey and all of his Consulting Frims can move on anytime now as far as I am concerned.

How many new 737s did the company just buy?

Last year they lost billions but they still "found" money for Executive bonuses.

If they can find the money for that then they can find the money for us.

Don't have the exact number in front of me, but I believe it was quite a few. And you'll be thankful for those fuel-efficient aircraft in ten years when oil is at $200 and you are trying to negotiate a new contract.

The "bonuses" were stock, not cash, but you already knew that.

Stocks or cash? Which would weigh more? A pound of cotton or a pound of gold? Its still compensation, right?

So we should hold our breath for another 10 years before expecting a reasonable paycheck?

One thing thats guaranteed is that they would have a new crisis in place to justify not paying us.

UPS,Southwest, JetBlue, Air Tran and Continental all have to deal with fuel prices and a bad economy, but they all pay more than AA.

With the convention coming up, any word on when the next mediation meeting is supposed to occur? I still think that the mediator should've addressed that issue too, especially when they witnessed the company guy's returning to the table without any counter proposals. Where is all the,"Time is of the essence" drama that surrounded us when the concessions were taken while the company's lawyers were doing jumping jacks on the courthouse steps?

AA AMT's Compared to Industry AMT's

AA Issues Debt For Future Aircraft

Delayed a flight for more than one hour because we did not have in stock a WINDOW HEAT CONTROLLER FOR AN MD-80.

Why was the part not in stock? Because the computer system had been programmed by AA to ignore the automatic restock for that item at our station due to a lack of use.

The MEL allowed deferral based on WX and an LMP downgrade: problem was that the WX en-route prohibited dispatch and destination landing WX made the LMP downgrade problematic.

Answer: we borrowed the part from another airline but due to logistical snafu's between our stores and the lender; our passengers were delayed, with some missing connections.

At some future date, MAPS will dictate that the borrowed part be replaced because of the daily rental for the part: at that time we will expend labor hours swapping the borrowed part for an AA owned part, reducing the effectiveness of the individual AMT and accounting for basic overhead due to the labor hours lost and the cost of the rental unit.

We are in contract negotiations with the same individuals that pride themselves on the reduction in parts made available to individual stations.

These same individuals now seek to link our delivery of service as a type of inverse proportion to the degree of materials and manning they provide; while, retaining a direct proportionality between bonuses and cost reductions reflected as a measure of stock price.

Company reduces parts availability and manning(REG or OT) because we do not use enough of them: Company claims that our Negotiations for Pay are unrealistic because of the delays we incur based on the parts and manning they refused to provide.

Company claims a reduction in Maintenance Supply Costs and an increase in Revenue over a stated period; leading to a gain in the average stock price of AA against the proverbial "market basket" of other airlines. The totality of the expense for the deferred costs of the decisions of AA are realized in the quarters after those decisions are made: the compensation based on an outside view of those decisions is not.

Set a three, five, ten and twenty year compensation plan for Maintenance and Engineering that favors the long term planners and severly penalizes the short-termers: make it contractually obligated to a delivery of service based on metrics reasonablly balanced between the interests of Mangement and Labor.

Between now and then: the TWU must securitize the shortfunding of the TWU DBP Plans by laying claim to a sufficient number of future aircraft through an as now held bankruptcy proof claim against individual aircraft that can ebb and flow with the maturation of the airframes and the flow of market forces on the funding status of the DBP.

The Talent is out there- Go Get It:
The Legal Mechanisms To Securitize Pension Obligations is Available- Just Do It.

Boomer, rather than do that the company will simply leave the DBP plan on the courthouse steps and leave the matter of the pension to the PBGC.Besides, the TWU would never ask for something like that, they wouldn't want to upset the status quo.Not to mention most ships that are worth anything are already hocked.

Plus the company would lose its biggest club in the FUD arsenal if the pensions were securitized and they aren't about to give that up anytime soon.

No
I still think that the mediator should've addressed that issue too, especially when they witnessed the company guy's returning to the table without any counter proposals. Where is all the,"Time is of the essence" drama that surrounded us when the concessions were taken while the company's lawyers were doing jumping jacks on the courthouse steps?

The company is in no rush, why would they be? We are number 5 in Full up pay, have the lowest rate of Holiday Pay with the least amount of Holidays, least amount of vacation and least amount of sick time accrual, but "we still have a pension", for now.

The "Time Is Of The Essence" nonsense was the desire for the voting to get done before the quarterly report came out detailing the $46 million the company rat-holed for its executives. If the serfs were to have found out about that beforehand, Carty and the board knew full well no contract with any group would be accepted. Were it not for some mistake made in voting by the F/As, all voting would have been complete.

As it happened, the TWU wanted to revote but Little Jimmy accepted the contract for us, an act he went to court over later, getting a ruling that said "he can do that, brother". The next we knew, the company was crowing about "permanent concessions" to the media, permanent being a word that was never used by either the company or the TWU when this thing was being sold to the membership.

Fleet Negotiations Update -7/29/09

The Fleet Negotiating Committee and company met July 29, 2009 in Chicago, Illinois. The company began this session by recapping events to date. American acknowledged the hard work that this committee has done and the sacrifices our members have made since 2003. Outside forces, such as the climb in 2007 fuel prices and now the current economic crisis, have plagued our ability to bring an acceptable proposal to our membership, despite continued attempts by both parties to reach an agreement.

It is the opinion of the mediator that we enter into a holding pattern until such time that circumstances warrant a meeting. The mediator plans to set a tentative meeting date for late October. We will have additional information for you as conditions warrant.
