TWU negotiations.........what?

<_< ----- Another question on "retro-pay". What about those who were on AA's payrol after the amendable date, but are now retired?

Bob:

As if my opinion means anything, your proposed articles look great, but getting the bus drivers and our hand picked delegates to go along will be quite a fight.

As far as your example re: getting England out of Ireland - the Irish had no qualms about stepping away from or outright ignoring the legalities/common decencies we are bound by. Nice thought, though.

The International isn't going to relinquish its meal ticket easily at all, but after changing the basic structure almost anything can be made to work properly.

The problem with the TWU is the same as the one with the Federal Government - too many simply don't care and are content to let "them" take care of all problems - "them" and "they" did a helluva job for themselves with respect to both, don't you think? Mandatory attendence of union meetings to some degree would be beneficial and help avoid a return to the cronyism should anything like what you suggest gets enacted.

I give to the Widows and Orphans fund!

I fully support Bob Owens proposed Resolutions. They are a building block to transparency and empowering the members to be more informed and involved in the process. I have not heard anyone say they did not apporove of these resolutions, no matter what group read them...ramp,cargo,title 2,facilities,automotive,stores, maintenance.... This is one issue we should all promote together since we will all benefit from these resolutions. It will not be easy to accomplish because the select few will not want them but if the memebership from all title groups demand their elected representatives to push for these changes we have a much chance of succeeding at the convention. Ask your reps how you can help in making these resolutions a reality. The more people that help, the more it becomes easier on everyone involved. Helping does not mean to take over your life just accomplishing a task to do your part. the convention is Sept 14-18th 2009.

Nobody is asking them to. I actually submitted drafts to the International and the response was not negative.

I think people just got to the point where they feel they cant make a difference, thats not really the same as not caring. I dont see where "mandatory attendance will change things either, I'd rather try doing more online. Just as I can discuss issues with you despite the fact that you are 1500 miles away, and people from anywhere can read and chime in if they like we could set up a secure (for members only site) and discuss puely union issues around motions, after a period of time we could vote on the motion. We all work under the same contract we should be in the same Local. If we did it online we could function as one Local despite the fact that we are spead all across the country because we can participate from our keyboards at a time thats convienient for us. Another side benifit is the minutes are 100% accurate. Believe it or not Jim Little has been assisting us in trying to set up an online Local with Local 562. Its been pushed back due to all the other things going on but we want to try it within the next year or so.

We posted another big loss last week... with the cash pile dwindling and the low season coming, I don't see where the money for any of this is going to come from.

How many new 737s did the company just buy?

Last year they lost billions but they still "found" money for Executive bonuses.

If they can find the money for that then they can find the money for us.

Just curious about what to expect from the company when they return to the table. Does anyone think that the company's next proposal will look like their first? Like I said, just curious.

Supposedly, the mediator was rather perturbed that the company showed up with only a stupid look on their faces.

Not sure how that bodes for the process ...

Nothing. There is no reason for them to bring something worthy of expectations.

Laws don't apply until they are made to abide and only then after huge legal expenditures.

If anything, we will see some short term deal full of concessions with an early out attached to get yes votes.

This might explain the stall tactics of the company:

UBS analyst Kevin Crissey estimates that American Airlines will cut flying by 10.4 percent in August, and that United will fly 6.3 percent fewer seats. The biggest carrier, Delta Air Lines, will reduce capacity by 3.9 percent in August.

Even Southwest Airlines, which has never planned a capacity cut, plans to reduce flying by 6 percent this year.

"After summer I expect most of the major airlines to be more aggressive with capacity cuts, simply because the economics are not working for them right now," said Jim Corridore, an airline analyst at Standard & Poor's.

I heard last week that departure delays in DFW have increased 300% from last months stats. Arpey and his cronies are very concerned about this and want to know what can be done to correct this. The union officials are denying that they called for a job action and seem to be doing what they can to help straighten out the problem. There seems to be a justifiable reason for the increase though with new security checks and other measures. But just maybe, given the opportunity, fleet service is willing to apply more pressure on the line than our negotiators are at the table?

I think it's more a result of the company simply cutting too many heads too quickly (When was the last time you heard of an airline laying people off in mid July?) than anything else.

They are congratulating themselves for making their headcount 'Numbers' but then puzzling over why delay numbers have increased exponentially...this place is doomed.

That is the jist of DFW,Rob Peter to pay Paul.
AA management cut the line crews down to 5 and beefed up LTS (bag transfer).Of course LTS doesn't assist all trips. With one less crew member, bag delivery time increases as well as possible mis-connects. If this "extra man" is not needed to run bags ,he can assist in loading revenue mail/freight. Mail is complaining about a loss of 1 million a month due to no loads. No extra man/time.....cut mail/freight!
With pressure being on AA management, they have rehired a former AA'er (Sheila Henry) as a consultant,to review delays as well other personnel to monitor T-Link (bag transfer system).
With a new bid coming in Sept,AA is putting the 6th man back on the line and reducing LTS. AS OF NOW !
There is no job action, employees are working by AA rules and regulations!
