TWU negotiations.........what?

<_< ----- Hey Goose! The CEO of British Air asked his employees to work for free for a month! Think AA could take their lead and do the same? I'm sure Little and the boys would back you up!-----You know! For Ourpay and the "Company"?!!

Daily someone stops me who was a big TWU Supporter during the AMFA drive and begins complaining like hell about their lack of union representation.

I guess some of us were just ahead of the curve and saw things that now others have begun to see.

The Company Union has crossed over the line.

I contacted my Senators and House Representatives regarding the Employee Free Choice Act

I told all of them in my letters that if Organized Labor wants union certification without a ballot, then we should also be able to decertify a company union like the TWU on card signatures alone without a ballot.
The Railway Labor Act currently doesn't even have a de-certification procedure. To rid yourself of a Union like the TWU you must sign cards for another union favoring an election.

Do you think Organized Labor would be so in favor if the decertification procedure was without ballot vote and on card signatures alone in the law to be passsed?

Well this time all the AMFA haters can run this revolt since we were all so crazy last time wanting to rid ourselves of the TWU. I guess some people really need to be kicked in the teeth to see that the TWU is not here for our betterment

Actually the EFCA does provide for a secret ballot. The biggest part is the co. not being able to hold up a first contract for 5 years in appeals while they fire everyone organising.

Really? Got the text of the bill that shows that to be true?

We are one up on them. The 2003 concessionary PAYCUT is equivalent to working 5 days and getting paid for 4. We have been doing this since May of 2003. Now that is a tough one to beat. Only we can top that one with another concessionary contract. (Soon to come)

What everyone needs to realize about this appalling move by our beloved union is that by offering a LOWER proposal, THEY HAVE JUST LOWERED THE CEILING OF THE CONTRACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXPECT TO GO EVEN LOWER......

As for my MIA, and ORD brothers and sisters, did your cost of living suddenly fall to levels of TUL where you don't need an increase in pay?????????? And don't be fooled by the proposed 6% lump sump.....IT IS NOT RETRO.........Wait another year for 3.5%...It is not a pay increase until you have been restored to 2003 levels and MORE.......

Why is Woodward still in office?????????????????

I don't blame this worthless union anymore.. I blame the members who put in crony presidents who seek hire office in the international by doing Chicken Little's bidding.....

So do yourselves a favor and stop discussing this topic. In case you don't realize it, your union is moving you into the BEND-OVER phase.....
UNLESS YOU SHOW THIS UNION AND COMPANY HOW YOU CAN NEGATIVELY IMPACT THEIR ON TIME PERFORMANCE.....DON'T COMPLAIN AND TAKE IT LIKE GOOD LITTLE UNION MEMBERS!!!!!!!!

I am proud to have Bob Owens as my local president...He would not and did not sell out....He's is outnumbered in the pool of local presidents who fear arbitration and are willing to accept crumbs and hope to fight another day.....
So stop complaining there will be no raise and stop the B.S. protest in front of HDQ when the executives get their PUP pay....

The only union at AA is the CREDIT UNION.....

Our union needs to distribute shirts like the one that says, "Will strike if provoked". But instead of an ominous looking coiled snake, replace it with a nightcrawler on a shiny hook. Oh yeah, they would have to exchange the word Strike with Choke.

I see a need for transparency and accountability. People should stand by their vote since it is suppose to be what the membership wants. Would any member disagree with publishing motions and how all the presidents vote for their members? How other presidents vote is just as important as my own president. Since their votes affect my members I would need to know how all presidents voted not just mine. Besides I believe it is the members right to know as our officers are elected and represent our vote. If the presidents council diagrees with publishing votes they are sheltering themselves to their members, going against democracy, and in my opinion, is conduct unbecoming of an officer.

Demand for the negotiating committee to publish the motions and votes!

Excellent idea. I too would like to see some transparency and accountability.
Can Mr. Owens publish the votes and the motions from the Local Presidents at the negotiations on the 562 website? He is as accountable as anyone else. As his VP, could you please request that info?

I have no problem with that info being released, in fact I support it but I'm usually too busy shuffling notes on the motions I plan on making or to support my arguement in regards to the motion to keep track of how everyone votes and if they are sitting on the same side of the room I cant always see how each person is voting. I dont think they record who votes which way on every vote anyhow, although I havent personally reviewed the minutes.

The motion to release such information would have a better chance at passing if it gets brought forward by another Local, preferrably not DCA, LAX, NY or AFW, since we were the minority, I would most certainly speak in favor of it and vote for it.

How do you know who to argue your position with if you dont know how they voted?? Your "Too busy shuffling notes"???That sounds pretty lame.

Since when do you need the blessing of others to release what is being said at negotiations? Isnt that why you were elected??
Did you vote "for" or "against" bringing the current proposal forward? Who else voted for it? Who else voted aginst it. Was there any argument not to bring it forward?

If the militants get their way most of us will be furloughed within a year. Look at the reality around you: massive declines in traffic and RASM, oil prices on the rise once again, and one of the key industries for premium travel (banking) in the toilet and shackled from any sort of extravagance like flying first class.

By all means push for a good contract (by good I mean not concessionary). Push for restore and more with retro and one day soon you'll wake up, turn on the news and see a shot of DFW with a plane chained to the gate.

Informer, I have always considered you as a friend and though we haven't been in agreement within our beliefs I don't hold that against you. Yes, I'm still in opposition to what the AMFA had to offer and to whom they wished to represent here at AA. With that said. I'm still supportive of the TWU, only through our current agreement!

From what I see with the direction of the current bargaining process and our status as members of our Local, we are of little importance. The position and direction of our negotiating committee weighs heavy upon my mind.

The focused agenda of the negotiating committee has soiled the air I breathe...

"It reaks of the smell of AMFA"!

The question at hand is why aren't the votes provided to the membership by the negotiating committee without having to ask or keep track. It should be an offical record and posted like they do with our elected representatives in congress and the senate. Do they have to keep score on how everyone votes or they are just special compared to us. pressure the people who are against publishing votes rather than the minority of people who support it.
