TWU negotiations.........what?

You are such a tool.

What the he11 do you know about working the line or signing a logbook release?

A lot, I have been working line maintenance for over 30 years. Been a CC for many of those years, and was QA on the 767. I know plenty but you don't obviously.

FAR 65.81 General privileges and limitations.

(a) A certificated mechanic may perform or supervise the maintenance, preventive maintenance or alteration of an aircraft or appliance, or a part thereof, for which he is rated (but excluding major repairs to, and major alterations of, propellers, and any repair to, or alteration of, instruments), and may perform additional duties in accordance with FAR’s 65.85, 65.87, and 65.95.

Wow, you can quote an FAR. My point is, if you were to run your mouth the way you post on this board, in any line maint ready room - you would; at the very least, be laughed at. You obviously aren't too bright, or there is something in it for you, to take your unusual point of view - which is it? Not unlike the rest of the normal guys on this BB, I suspect you're an International plant (TOOL). All that means is that you are a selfish commie.

Name calling is all you got.

Not a tool. Point is know all the facts before taking asking for release. Burying your head in the sand and ignoring all the possibilities is not being too bright.

Build a better contract and realize that it can be undone by the current set of laws and regulations. BK, FARs, free trade agreements, etc... outsourcing or de-skilling is not what I want. Unless you and others like you wake up, many more licensed mechanics will be replaced with unlicensed or overseas workers.

Unfortunately continued ignorance of the current reality you live in makes you a tool. Saying if someone is to discuss facts openly in a ready room would get them trashed or threatened is old school thuggery. Start using your ears and listen and then process that info with your brain. The game has changed since 1978 and union membership needs to update and maybe even a reboot of their practices.

If I didn't know better, I would swear you are telling us the the AFL-CIO sucks, is not effective at protecting our interest politically, and that our involvement in politics has been a complete waste of time.

I mean each of those issues that you have brought forward are why the AFL-CIO is suppose to exist. It is why we are involved in politics today and have been for years. Yet, your fear and your postings indicate complete failure.

I agree!

Burying your head in the sand to the fact that the AFL-CIO is failing misreably is just as bad as " Burying your head in the sand and ignoring all the possibilities". Yet you seem to be one of those that supports more of the same.

"Sucks"? No. Needs to evolve and adapt? Yes.

It appears to me unions rolled back on organizing. All we have been doing is shrinking. The sheer volume of members being able to vote politicians out is a powerful tool against paid lobbyists.

If the functionality of unions is "rolling back on organizing", why has the dues multiplier not adjusted to match this rollback?

Be careful your members may vote out the democrats and "Labor Friendly Republicans" and of course there are no left leaning paid lobbyists......

<_< -------- Where are our Unions on this one Overspeed? http://content.usatoday.com/communities/driveon/post/2011/10/mexican-trucks-due-to-enter-us-in-days/1 And don't tell me they're no concern of ours because the Teamsters aren't part of the AFL/CIO! What about the goods inside those trucks headed for your local Wal Mart??? What ever happened to the term: "Fair Trade"!!!!?------- Obama is supposed to be "the friend of the worker!" So where the hell is he???? Uncle Ross Perot said, when he was running for president, " you pass NAFTA, and you'll hear the sucking sound of jobs leaving this country!"------- Well guess what!!!? He was right!!!

Is this where your idea of more members making less is better than less members making more comes from?
Because you think more members making less is a powerful tool against finance? You're kidding right?

Evolve and adapt how specifically?
That is easy to type, but what exactly do you mean by evolve and adapt?

You appear to be one with many metaphors and buzz words but shallow on specifics.

Maybe workers are willing to evolve and adapt without the dictators and money grabbers also known as "union leaders". Back when unions protected the interest of workers/members they were sough out, now they protect their own interest as failing institutions and therefore are mostly undesired. Yes! They Suck!

Why is it that in most cases a union leaders are silenced when they are given a salary at the International?

If it were me running the show, I would start by organizing the MRO people. Adapt by working to develop stricter standards on licensing of repair stations and that airlines that outsource domestically and internationally. Update the existingFAR 65 Part D A&P certifications to be more inline with the times. I mean do we really need to learn dope and fab as well as radial engine maintenance anymore? Why not have certifications like EASA where you need to have training more than a 40 hour a week coloring book class to sign off an aircraft?

The great thing about the institution of unionism is it can change because unions are not out of the game by a long shot. I'm not giving up on my union becoming better.

There is no adapting for the A&P mechanic within the TWU. TWU represented A&P Mechanics have been used as leverage by the TWU for their own "all inclusive" gains for everybody they represent. Just look within the TWU represented catagories vs the industry. The TWU represented A&Ps are near the bottom vs the industry, while the rest of the TWU represented title groups are at or near the top vs the industry. You speak of adapting, yeah, that's your code for"shut up, and accept another sub standard contract".

In other words, most of us cannot wait till the TWU and their politically correct commies get the boot, and we get the AMP in.

This is exactly what the posters here that are not in the industry fail to understand. They look at the big picture and not it's parts. Parts for them, would be all mechanics, all Flight attendants or all pilots, not a breakdown of the labor groups within the company. While the company labor cost is in question, Vortilon breaks down the reality of the labor map at American compared to the industry at each work group.
