TWU negotiations.........what?

What else is needed to wake people up about how negotiations are going before they get rid of the twu?

A vote was taken on whether or not to ask to be released... again. The vote amongst the presidents was 9 voted NOT to be asked to be released while 8 voted FOR being released.

My questions is why did these 9 presidents vote NOT to be released? What? Is three years of negotiating with a company who isn't negotiating in good faith not long enough for you? The system is stacked against labor but it is a system so take the next step! Oh, Kane wasn't going to release us anyway but these 9 had to vote the way the international wanted. Why would the international want to stay in negotiations? Well maybe it has to do with if we were released they would anger the company and actually have to fight and prepare for a strike.

Also, why doesn't the international post to the membership who voted to stay and kiss the company's arse and who wanted to take the next step in the process? I'll have to find out and see who the fighters are. Wonderful system the union has for negotiating. Everything must be top secret.

Fcking amazing! 1203 days without a contract and we still have invertebrate local presidents that are hoping for a reach-around from the international. What a dog and pony show and embarassing to say the least!

We are hearing that the mediator in last weeks negotiation session called you guys, "a bunch of pricks," and the AA side of the table started to laugh. Don Vedeitich was quick to say, "you can't say that," and the laughing got louder. My question is, can we file a formal complaint with the NMB, and was Don's quick response to that statement just impulse?

I'd probably have laughed, too...

Haven't several of you described Don V in somewhat similar language?

Bob Owens,

I dont recall that. Not saying it didnt happen, just I dont recall it.

I`ve read the same proposed change from the FAA. If that were to come to pass it would benefit the company. That would eliminate "double time" for good as I see it. Yes I`m aware we lost that in 2003, but for the airlines out there that still pay double time it is indeed a game changer. It would not eliminate overtime just 7th day. Either way it is another case of the government getting into my back pocket while they continue to extort us at the gas pump.
Restrictions of duty time while initially painful are actually good for workers. It lowers the amount of hours an individual can make available and therefore shrinks the supply of labor.

For every 40 OT hours worked a week at your base thats one worker who doesnt have a job because of that.

With 9% unemployment the government sort of has an obligation to reduce the amount of hours we work so more people would be put to work, of course the problem is that wages have deteriorated so much the OT really isnt optional, so we must strive for wages that would be adequate, think of going for a raise as your Patriotic Duty to stimulate the Economy and promote job growth!

I have heard in Fleet (cargo/mail) at DFW, they are giving out and being excepted by many double day off overtime and then calling them in fours hours early on their regular schedule day. In other words, the guys/gals are signing up for day off ot for both the morning and afternoon shift (getting both 16hrs of day off) and then either four hours early-call or holdover on normal shift. It's my understanding this is not unique.

Ken, how did you find out about this?? Is this another TWU swear to secrecy stunt?? Where's our buddy Bob Owens on this???

So, its not just the NMB's failure to do their job.....our negotiators have failed to do their job!!!! If this is true!

My condolences!

Buck, trust me...if you'd been commuting SEA-TUL for the last 3 & half yrs(on your dime&renting a room $650/mo), and working in this cluster-you know what, called 787 prog...you'd go home to TUL/AA too.
I'm fully aware of what I'm walking into.
I'll just have to keep my mouth shut for 6 mos. But I will sign an AMP card ;)

From what I've heard its the same for Fleet up here in NY. They have to work that much in order to get by, but CS would be in the mix as well as OT. So you have guys that work a huge amount of hours and you have guys who have their own Businesses that show up a day or two to keep the benifits. Those are the guys that dont care what the job pays and tend to be YES votes as long as they dont have to actually show up that much and get their benefits. DeValle can make whatever pronouncements on CS rules he likes, what it does is makes it look like lower management is doing favors which they call on later. " Guys I put myself on the line here but now I need something from you". "Good cop bad cop" routine, DeValle, who you never see plays the bad cop, your local manager gets to play the good cop.

Continental has CS rules written right into the contract, we proposed them in M&R, a zero cost item which would have given the company the opportunity to show movement but they said "We like them the way they are". Turns out the company doesnt have to show movement and the NMB supports their position.

It is true.

Those who voted NOT to be released are cowards and show every inch of their yellow coloring running down their spine.

It is fact that Kane is a company man. It is fact that Kane said he would NOT release us. So why not vote to be released then?

Oh, that would make the twu look like they are willing to fight.

Dues keep coming in. We are not allowed to seek self help. The company continues to save money every day this circus is dragged on.
