lets talk about the "Tentative Agreements"
Here we are again with these alleged tentative agreements. It would be in our best interest if we could see what was changed in these newly agreed articles now and if they were not changed at all it should say so to the membership in the union letter.
Because if we want to make changes to the articles from the floor we still have time to do it. otherwise as history dictates the entire contract would have to be turned down to make any changes to the articles. I always had the understanding that language was the most important part of the contract in going forward!

John Iuliano
President Local 562

Attn: Mr. Iuliano, January 24, 2008

The TWU has published that several articles have been tentatively agreed by the Presidents Council. I am not going to request to see the articles that have been tentatively agreed upon, I am insisting that I be allowed to see these articles and future articles as they are tentatively agreed upon. It is my right as a union member to view these articles with the knowledge that they are only tentative agreements. If you will not provide me with these articles and future articles as they become tentatively agreed upon, I insist a written explaination why I am being refused to view those articles and future articles. Please provide the references to your decision. If you choose to use the confidentiality clause as part of your reference, I insist on you explain how the confidentiality clause is applied and how it overrides my rights to view these articles of tentative agreement. I am sending this to the entire E-Board to ensure that this email gets to you. I request that Mark Hnat ensure that president Iuliano receives this E-mail and replies.

Awaiting your response,

Chuck Schalk

And the response...

Hi Chuck:

I'm a little busy down here in Dallas partying, sorry negotiating with the company. The reason for the refusal to allow the agreed articles to viewed by the membership is the simple fact that guys like you Chuck will be pissed off from the language and want to start another card drive. At this point we can't afford the booze bill to set up another team twu to fight off a card drive, so we won't be releasing any information and besides the company said no. When the contract is completely agreed upon, and the company waves a carrot in front of the membership in the form of a signing bonus, then and only then will you see what you agreed upon. But remember Chuck, we do hold the right to change language even after the contract is signed without any further votes.

Fraternally,

Your Negotiating Committee

ALL TWU Leaders are directed to report to Hooters to Celebrate another round of opression and lack of information to the membership.

I have been unofficially told that "the TWU Int'l and the company have made a special agreement not to release any tentative agreements" This came out of the DFW union metting.
If anyone could confirm or deny this it would greatly appreciated as i am only a union member with a family!

That's the BOHICA clause!

That was stated at the local 565 union meeting last week. The twu intl. and the company have an agreement not to release any information prior to sending us a completed contracted to vote on. Also, it was stated that any negotiating member who does release any information other then the official twu intl. information will be tossed out of negotiations.

I can see the value of a news blackout in negotiations; if you don't like the TA, vote it down. But to have what, 25,000 members asking questions and debating the proposals before the representatives have a chance to reach a TA? That would be kinda unwieldy.

Besides, it's not like the worthless union would be responsive even if Chuck did get to discuss each proposal in advance of a TA.

AMFA seems to be able to release this info but not the twu. I guess we know what problem is!!!

The TWU International must think for us and save us from ourselves.

We are unable to understand and accept that T/A's Articles might change during the course of negotiations.

Ha!

What gives the TWU International the right to make such agreements with the company that exclude the dues paying member from information?

Bogus Union = Bogus Contract

The problem with waiting for the complete contract to be T/A's verus allowing us to see the language of the T/A'd articles is the signing bonus at the end which allows people to overlook the horrible language that was agreed upon months earlier. We are not asking to debate proposals, there are upwards of 15 articles in which the twu has stated that they have reached a tentative agreement on, that is the language we would like to see prior to the whole package being dropped on our lap, with a signing bonus to make sure we don't read it. <_<

If they want to stay out of the news and media thats fine with me.

I am not complaining about a "news" blackout, I am complaining that some toolbox mechanic or possibly not even that is negotiating my livelyhood under the manipulation and control of a group of International Leaders that I never will get a chance to vote out of office regardless of the outcome.

Asking questions and debating is the staple of American Freedom and Democracy but when it comes to my pay and benefits you and others want to throw that freedom out the window.

If the Labor Movement ever wanted to look in the mirror and see why most workers even the deprived sweatshop emlpoyee never seeks the assistance of organize labor, now and this issue would be a great place to start.

Oh so many that are required by law to pay dues and belong to the union are passionately anti-union and #### like this is the reason why.
