TWU negotiations.........what?

Surprise! Surprise!

Title V (Stores) has reached a tentative agreement.....

Boy, Little must be exerting pressure like his bonus depends on it.

We should be seriously doing our home work on the requirements to be ready with an independent union.
If this union leadership continues to fail us and call us CAVE men if we disagree with their idea of fair, then start another card drive and this time dispense with the problem.

"American Airlines and the Transport Workers Union have reached a tentative agreement in principle for the Maintenance Control Technician workgroup, previously known as the Technical Specialist workgroup. Agreement has now been reached on all contracts related to our maintenance organization. This is the third tentative agreement reached this week.

Third one this week. This dues collection agency is such a scam!

How can we read the most recent comments first? Pinning all TA discussions to this thread at this time is pretty inconvenient otherwise.

Bring in the TEAMSTERS please!
Give me a card - PLEASE!!

If that should come to pass, we have to remember not to vote the same twits back into office that have made a career of hosing the membership with the TWU in place - can we manage to do that or will the voting memebership allow the Okie buddy system take over again? Is it even a remote possibility or would it be the SOS - the newly elected union officers immediately begin working together for the company upon their election to work for the membership?

It seems the same people invariably "step up to the plate" to "work" for the "common good", or is it more like the same people gravitate toward where they can do the least and get paid the most while working for their own benefit?

It might be a bit more believable if these contracts weren't so much alike.

Recapping the TWU Negotiations

February 1, 2007 - John Conley: "We might set greater expectations than those of our colleagues based on ... what we have been able to achieve."
February 28, 2007 - Gary Yingst: "Our position is that moving forward, we need to have a contract in place by the (May 2008) amendable date, and it's not going to be a concessionary contract."
November 9, 2007 - John Conley: "It’s time to settle the debts and repair the “Balance Sheet” with our members. In Texas terminology – let’s get –r – done."
November 9, 2007 - Dennis Burchette: “Ground workers want to see their compensation restored to pre-concessions, 2003 levels. The TWU has been doing the heavy lifting for this corporation So we're expecting full restoration."

April 4, 2008 - Jim Little: "The first thing they wanted to do is take away the retiree medical. I get tired of hearing about the impact of rising fuel costs on the carriers. Everybody we represent is facing the same thing."

December 15, 2008 - John Conley: “The company didn’t seem very serious about getting an agreement.”

January 16, 2009 - Bob Gless: "The gloves are coming off. Up until now our vocabulary has revolved around words like ‘partnership’ and ‘plan to win.’ I know we will refer to the latest round of talks with ‘betrayal.'"

January 16, 2009 - John Conley: "The TWU believes the company failed to honor their commitments. We essentially told them, 'Don't waste your breath' and 'Don't waste our time."

March 12, 2009 - Steve Luis: "I have worked for American 23 years and the lack of trust between union and management is at a level that is very alarming to me.”

September 18, 2009 - Joe Gordon: "Lets kick some ass!"

January 15, 2010 - Don Videtich: "We need to get a negotiated deal that is fair for our members and this one fell way short of being fair."

February 19, 2010 - Jim Little: "The company needs to recognize the wage and benefit needs of our members, as well as the contribution they’ve made through enhanced productivity and by bringing new business into the company. If AMR executives are not serious, they’re going to find out very quickly that TWU members are – and we’re going to do what it takes to reach a fair and equitable agreement,”

January 29, 2010 - Bob Zimmerman: " . . . at this point in our careers we may have to choose between continuing down the path of career destruction, or to take a stand. It has been 41 years since this airline has seen a strike by its mechanics, and they have obviously forgotten or are ignoring the importance of maintenance. With that said, we all need to prepare for a possible strike, or some other type of self help."

March 9, 2010 - Bob Gless: “Members are wanting to be brought back to the wages and benefits that will bring them some stability."

March 11, 2010 - John Conley: "It is the concerted opinion of International President James C Little and me, that all reasonable efforts to reach an amicable agreement through mediated session has failed. For that reason, please accept this notice as formal request to release the parties."

April 16, 2010 - John Conley: "They’ve stiffed our members at the bargaining table for the past four years - even though we were the ones who stepped up to take a 30 percent pay cut in 2003 to save the airline from bankruptcy."

May 7, 2010 - John Conley: “Today’s announcement marks a dramatic turn from only a week ago when negotiations were at a standstill and our union was waiting for the NMB to release our union from mediation. Progress is being made with other work groups and we are hoping to have other announcements in the near future.”

To the 50 and over crowd............

This time, it's no retiree medical for the under 50 folks....
Next time it's for the rest of you 50 and over......

Right now the IIRC its 54% over 50. The bigger issue should be that the structural raises, that are pensionable, are too small. Zero increase for two years.

Bob:

The under 50 crowd are really in an enviable spot - if they hired in after we were made to pay the higher prefunding witholding, they will be getting a chunk of change that ,if properly managed, will do better for their future medical needs and costs that anything the company would provide us, with the exception of what is provided for the Centrepork infestation.

The company and paid for subsidiary are using fear to sell us a pack of lies, much as was done in 2003.

Some are afraid of losing the pension - we can only lose further accrual of benefits, not the pension itself. Retiree medical can be paid for by the individual and not be stuck with the company's choice - save your money, rather than spend it all, just like prefunding.

There is some question as to the actual value of any medical insurance inclusion or deletion because of the pending (2014) onset of O'BummerCare, which I strongly suspect has something to do with retraction of the bridge insurance and corporate profit due to that.

I sent your VP Chuck a private message re: this and suggested who he might contact for answers. Get with him.

We are being told by our local that the neg committee had an agreement that there would be no vote until they had a full text contract in front of them, but all of a sudden Tulsa,Ord,Mia and DFW changed their minds and wanted to have a vote due to the fact that they had the majority. If this is true then I smell a rat and I believe it is the Int. Can anybody verify if their was an agreement between the members of the neg committee?

DFW has been told the members will have full text of the TA for 30 days before the vote.

I don't see how that is possible if the T/A says committiees will negotiate details later of Items such as TWU VEBA Medical Plan, Rollover Options for prefunding balances, Shared Gain compensation at the bases, ect.

There is much left to be negotiated so FULL TEXT is not possible.

These are typical huge screw sticks that you feel after ratification.

The Company and TWU will establish a joint committee as soon as possible to explore rollover options for employee prefunding balances. Absent an option identified, active prefunding balances will be refunded by 12/31/2010.

Base Employee Gain Sharing plan: Mutually commit to develop a variable compensation plan and implemented within 180 days from DOS.

(In the event the parties are unable to reach a resolution, a neutral third party will be retained to facilitate a resolution)
