Well let's see now. I believe they (the TWU members AND the IAM members) were promised a vote would be done for the association being combined between the TWU and IAM, I also believe it was YOU who also said many, many times thru-out these forums that they would have a vote and "they did not get a vote". Not sure about the IAM but the TWU members have experiences in the past where their votes for contracts were overridden by the international, and was enforced by the international. So their hesitation on being allowed to vote on something is VERY valid just by past experiences. I can't believe that you would even think about posting that question, C'mon man...700UW said:Why wouldn't they vote on their CBA?
Yes he did, many, many times. Matter fact he and I went head to head on this very issue and to this day he has not ever responded to my questions of WHY the members were not allowed to vote on this association coming into their lives as it was forced upon them without ANY input what-so-ever...Rogallo said:
Didn't you say we'd get to vote on representation?

The NMB (National Mediation Board) was the one who made the determination that a vote was not "needed" since the IAM and TWU, IAM/TWU Association already represented nearly 100% of the members at the combined AA prior to the merger. The window by law was given for an intervenor to come forward to have a vote on being represented by an alternative Union and none came forth with the required showing of interest.Rogallo said:
Yeah, he really clams up when he can't, or won't, explain why the large industrial unions act like they do.
I don't recall any public statements by the IAM that there would be a vote for the Association. As a matter of fact if anyone had bothered to read the filing that the IAM submitted to the NMB, it was plain as day that they believed there did not have to be a vote on the Association since both Unions already represented the huge majority of the Class and Crafts.swamt said:Well let's see now. No. Some individual leaders within the TWU believed that the NMB would rule that a vote was needed. Since it was the IAM/TWU Association who filed to represent the groups, the only choices on that ballot if it had been ruled one was needed, would have been:AANOTOK said:Not that the TWU said a vote was going to be "needed", they said we would get to vote on the Association. Two different things as well W!
The NMB did not prevent the members from voting on the Association before it was filed with them for determination that they would become our representatives as a united entity for bargaining purposes. That was decided by the leaders of both Unions at the time the agreement was signed.AANOTOK said:Did the NMB prevent the TWU/IAM members from voting, or as W also stated, they said it wasn't "needed"?
