You do realize if you vote no and the association vote fails, you will be non-union with no contract?
Go ask your reps or the NMB, if you vote no you will be non-union.
This very same discussion is also going on in the US thread. So I just copied my response to someone else trying to claim the TWU/IAM Q and A. The membership better not just believe what the TWU/IAM post as factual info when they are the 2 groups trying to get you all to vote for them, you guys need to write, e-mail, fax, and text the NMB to get your answers. At this point the TWU and IAM will tell you guys anything to get you to keep them both as an association after the merger. Remember they will do ANYTHING to keep AMFA from getting on the ballot, and I think there is a way and they do not want you guys to figure it out so they are saying that you will be "no union representation" unless you vote for the new TWU/IAM employ assoc. Don't fall for it guys do your own homework, contact the NMB and get the correct answers. Here is the same post I posted in the US thread where they are being told the same thing by the same group:--- " I would not trust the TWU or the IAM when they say that the up coming employee association vote is either yes to the association, or it's no union. Sounds like a scare tactic to me by the 2 unions involved with trying to scare the entire membership of both sides to vote into this association. I think it is more like yes for the assoc. or no for the assoc.. If the final is yes, then you all will be in the new employ assoc. If it is no then the NMB will have to call for an election between TWU and IAM.Questions for the TWU/IAM Alliance
Q: Will the members have only two choices when the Alliance election is held?
A: Most likely, yes. When the Association applies for representation the choices will be for the Association or no union, unless an outside union intervenes and appears on the ballot.
700UW
If we get a vote with that circumstance happening we will hope that the IAM mechanics will join us the TWU mechanics who want the industrial unions out of our class and craft, and write in AMFA, thus getting rid of the IAM and the TWU with one fell swoop.
700, no disrespect, but I find it very hard to believe that 2 separate unions can come together joining forces and have a vote which is either union representation or not union representation. This is just a guaranteed vote from all the members from both unions to vote yes?? I don't think this can happen. If it can then this crap has to get changed. The vote should be yes for new assoc. or no for against the new assoc. If they vote for it then they will all be part of the new assoc., if they vote against it then they will all be represented by the current carriers unions, TWU @ AA, and IAM @ US. Then the NMB would have to call for an election to see who will prevail when they combine as one. I just cannot believe that 2 unions could come together and this kind of a vote could end up leaving the memberships non-union. I will take the time and contact the NMB and will post results, HOWEVER; on a side note, big news from DOJ: DOJ is vigorously pushing to block merger, saying "even if they decide to carve out concessions and give up slots, they cannot approve the merger". We may not have to even worry about this assoc. There very well could be no merger to worry about who will represent who, so this subject is on hold for now...So you want to be an employee at will with no contract and be at AA's beckon call?
Practically already are.So you want to be an employee at will with no contract and be at AA's beckon call?
Per a GLR from the NMB its an up or down union vote, a vote for no is a vote for no representation at all.700, no disrespect, but I find it very hard to believe that 2 separate unions can come together joining forces and have a vote which is either union representation or not union representation. This is just a guaranteed vote from all the members from both unions to vote yes?? I don't think this can happen. If it can then this crap has to get changed. So what you are saying is that the twu and the iam have been in collusion together to put this so called association together in order to put the membership in harms way. By creating this association the iam and twu are blackmailing the membership into voting yes. Either this is what is going on or you are a Liar. You have lied on these forums before so why not continue. SO WHAT IS IT COLLUSION OR LIAR??????????????You do realize if you vote no and the association vote fails, you will be non-union with no contract?
We do not want this association. If we vote no association then the twu and iam lose lots of $$$$$$$$. There will be choices. The two unions are not that stupid. They can always back off the entire association thing and leave things the way they are.
