As was said above, "new" call signs can only be two syllables. "US Air" was grandfathered in so it can stay, but a new call sign has to be two syllables. My only suggestion -- change it USAIRWAYS. That's it -- add the ways, and be done with it.
OK, late is everyone. How about "Scrapyard"?Hell...everybody's late.
It ain't just US, darling.
Too many little planes and global warming is the "late" problem.
Three syllables. No can do.OK, late is everyone. How about "Scrapyard"?
what does a call sign have to do with "flying with the big boys"?I don't understand why anyone wants to change it to CACTUS? This is not a small time airline anymore -- it is TRYING to fly with the big boys -- the likes of United, American, Continental, Delta, Northwest -- and ALL of those airlines have their own name as a callsign. My only suggestion -- change it USAIRWAYS. That's it -- add the ways, and be done with it.
They all have names worthy of international carriers, unlike choosing call signs like prickly pear, desert rat, sand dunes, you get the idea.what does a call sign have to do with "flying with the big boys"?

Just rename the callsign to "PITBULL"! It seems the East would be finally happy with something.I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I think we should retire Cactus as the call sign and keep your fond memories of it as I do the Speedbird, and Smiley.
All the majors' call signs are their corporate names and I think we should do the same.
Keep USAir.
that'll never happenJust rename the callsign to "PITBULL"! It seems the East would be finally happy with something.
