I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I think we should retire Cactus as the call sign and keep your fond memories of it as I do the Speedbird, and Smiley.

All the majors' call signs are their corporate names and I think we should do the same.

Keep USAir. :D

The name is "US Airways", not USAir. :) If ICAO would approve the call sign change to reflect the corporate name, that would be fine. Since it seems they want to stick with the current guidelines (no more than two syllables), the call sign will something other than the company's name.

I said "keep usair". USAir is close enough, don't ya' think?

A call sign is not a marketing tool, it's simply a way for ATC & pilots to communicate. It doesn't have to reflect the corporate name, or the region, or anything else. Nothing worng with using a unique word instead of something boring like "USAir" or "American" or "Delta"

Yes, you are correct about it not being a marketing tool however...a business should present itself as a business. Not a junior high nick name. And Cactus is a nick name. Sorry..it's justa little too cutsie for me.

I for one would like for US to present ourselves as a serious business. We are not a little regional airline. We are a big airline. We need to start acting like one. I know that is going to be a hard concept for the "front office" but it needs to be done.

This airline does not rotate around AZ. The only reason HQ is still there is because DP didn't want to displace his wife and kids. They are the toast of the town. They are the "Debs" for the area.

Yes, USAIR may sound boring but it does mean what it is. A US Airline.

the loser management team was kept...NEXT

Yeah, and we inherited a bunch of pissed off whiners like you, who will never be happy wherever you work, and only want to take everyone down with you.

All you do is complain, endlessly.

You should quit, do something else that makes you a less unhappy person.

Better your life, do something you like, with people you like, it will make your life more meaningful.

The whiny victim thing gets old.

Great advice--I think I'll take the real estate exam...I hear the market is picking up....nah it's such a pain hammering those signs in front of houses and no one is ever happy with the price they get for the house no matter how good it is.

you are probably right. i'll just stay where I am. I really wish that I could undergo the lobotomy you obviously had and ask them to connect a kool-ade IV to give me the stepford stare--what was the name of your doctor?
