In case you didn’t notice it, that post was just dripping (as was that 30 year old 330 Captain) with sarcasm!

MM

I noticed. If you know my posts I rarely use emoticons or whatever you call them. Kind of been waiting to use the red faced one once I found it. It was a perfect spot.

By the way, I really don't care what we call ourselves. Just so long as the paychecks come on time and don't bounce.

If the checks are late or bounce, then I guess I'm free to call us whatever I want. How about Cactair while ferrying the plane to the desert?

The East coast is where the seat of power and finance is: It is home to 99% of the nations' ivy-league schools too.

To me, all that means is that the east coast is the where seat of snobbery & pretention is.

 You're right, this should be in another thread. I wonder if my next female F/O would feel the same way? Geez. You really can't be serious?

Male or Female; Captain or First Officer; I honestly think it's a reasonable question. Is it modesty? Security? Pragmatism?

Or does one simply risk dehydration, discomfort or embarassment?

In all fairness? One can see such in plentiful supply on both coasts. As a long time resident/now expatriate of The Peoples' Rebublik of Kalifornia", I found that the encroaching "political correctness" BS to be more than enough to gag even maggots over time. The northeast's no picnic either.

I find my personal notions lately to be akin to an old line from Lee Marvin's character in Paint Your Wagon = "I don't care where I end up at the end of the day..as long as it's 200 miles ahead of "Civilization" ;)

Addendum: I've no interest in ever using Cactus as a callsign...I'd much prefer Shrubbery, perhaps Rabbit, Herring, or any from a host of clearly more dignified alternatives ;) If it needs must have some desert coloration?..There's always Rattlesnake, Sand-Gets-In-Everything, Sunburnt, Dehydration, Mirage, or just plain Delerious.

.I'd much prefer Shrubbery,

Whenever I hear/see the word "shubbery", I can't help thinking of:

Knight of Ni: We shall say "Ni" to you... if you do not appease us.
Arthur: Well what is it you want?
Knight of Ni: We want.....

(pregnant pause)

A SHRUBBERY!!!!

(minor music)

Arthur: A WHAT?
Knights of Ni: Ni! Ni!! Ni! Ni!
Arthur; No! No! Please, please, no more! We will find you a shrubbery.
Knight of Ni: You must return here with a shrubbery... or else you will never
pass through this wood... alive.
Arthur: O Knights of Ni, you are just and fair, and we will return with a
shrubbery.
Knight of Ni: One that looks nice.
Arthur: Of course!
Knight of Ni: And not too expensive.
Arthur; Yes!
Knight of Ni: Noowwwww.... GO!

Yup  Same page here ;) ...And things further deteriorated when the gallant questors were asked to fell a tree with a Herring ;)

The Rabbit reference needs no additional imagery ;)

EastUS,

I agree. I think it's a beautiful country, and every city has its charm.

The call sign issue is one of emotion, pride, and heritage. Since I am originally USAir, I'm biased, even if the company is in the gutter right now. I want to see the name carry on and succeed again. I want us to be proud every time we see it on the fuselage, and every time it's said in the cockpit. It makes sense to me to have the call sign be the same as the companys' name. I can see the Wests' point of view as well, but since AWA is a subsidiary of US, just like PI and PSA, why would their call sign take precedence? Keep it USAir, which represents us all.

Lovely response.

We are all proud of our prior companies and all are being shown respect with our colors and livery.

USAir covers us all.

The only difference is that since PI & PSA operate under separate certificates, they will continue to have their own call sign once AWE/USA are on one certificate.

If are going to suggest a new call sign, keep in mind the new ICAO guidelines:

One or two syllables only.
The word "Air" cannot be part of the call sign.
[/quote]
Any reference to the above remark
Please post a link or regulation # for creating a callsign. Would really like to find where the word "air" cannot be used
Thanks

I've got it!

Take the first letter of the four airlines

Piedmont
Alegheny
PSA
America West

use "PAPA"
