Wow, I thread I started two years ago is suddenly back. How things have changed since then! Here is a something from a posting that I made early on:

The following website has a list of all signs - some from airlines that are no longer with us. Some are humorous by intent, a cargo outfit uses/used "Ugly Van" (a Shorts 330 operator?).

http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Airline-call-sign

Or the humor is not by intent; did get a chuckle out of the call sign for Faucett of Peru. I think they are no longer around, so someone could inherit "Charlie Foxtrot". We could start a whole new thread for a nomination!

Given state the of the airline today, "Charlie Foxtrot" would be very fitting. :( :) :(

Cactus is perfect...it will let everyone know who is managing this "goat rope" of an airline. And as was previously stated, it is just a call-sign. Back in the day (when the guy senior to me was in pre-school) in the AirForce we used to rotate call signs daily. I think we can handle this iddy biddy little ole change.

Oh boo hoo... "when the guy senior to me was in pre-school." Let it go chap it isn't going to change... And then to read you were in the air force. Yeah that pretty much sums it up for me... A "zoomy" perhaps?

Good day little children...

I think the US call-sign should be Zanzibar. It just seems, um, appropriate. Somehow.

To those who have no idea about what I reference, just think, exotic, black rebels. and the name of HP going mammaries heading upward unless they could trap a money maker into "merging" with themselves encapsulates the entire bad situation.

Just think, Zanzibar flight 711, is cancelled. Well doh, says the passenger, what else would I expect, zanzibar is Tempes term for ch7. That could solve a lot of problems.

I think I'll have another one to.

Yes, I know the same poll is running over in the HP forum, but it might be interesting to if the results are different here. "Cactus" is outpolling "US Air" on that poll.
If are going to suggest a new call sign, keep in mind the new ICAO guidelines:

One or two syllables only.
The word "Air" cannot be part of the call sign.

Hmm..something more palatable than "Cactus"??....and going within the acceptable FCC context? = "Armpit" comes immediately to mind...perhaps simply FUBAR would be more fitting
