Afa Wins!

CONGRADULATIONS TO ALL !!! Glad to hear this...I've been wondering about this ....

Congratulations USAirways Flight Attendants!

I have been watching from afar and delighted to hear that you have prevailed.

In the words of my beloved twin sister, "We're all rootin' for ya!"

Everyone is talking about being successful needs to start with cooperation between management and labor. Well, it has to start with MANAGEMENT!!
They do not know how to play nice. Labor has tried and tried again only to fail.

Regarding the CBS put out to flight attendants. I HOPE that they allow any of those 200 that were involed the opportunity to remain on invol. if they chose to. Therefore, they would not need 200 vol Furloughs. The junior people have been through enough...let them stay out if they want. Don't care about "seniority" this time. Too many "senior" folks look down from their perch and wait for the junior to be stomped so they can pervail. Sorry, that is the way I see it. They are now thinking "Yes, I can get out!!" No, those that already "out" should have the option to remain out. You would be suprised how many do. Is it a loss then for AFA? NO!! It only will show Dave how people can no longer stand a job they once loved.

In MOHO, I think what you might see occur....if VF"s are offered are many of the Reserves taking it. The Senior BH's will stay. They have really lost nothing. They will still fly and make their bucks. The Reserves who have been hit so hard with this Time Balancing are the ones you have been oppressed as well as the Furloughees. We might be surprised at the numbers. They may have to end up calling back The First Round. All the middle folks gone....Just the oldies and the newbies. Just Thinking?????

I really don't think there are many Seniors saying "Yes, Now I can get Out" They have had every opportunity to "Get Out". They are staying. Go back and read some of the Posts by PSA1979 in the Forum "AFA Loses Again". She's not the only Senior Mamma out their who feels that way. It will be the "Career Reserves" who may just hit the road...and maybe this is exactly what Management wants.

Its my understanding that they only award as many vol. furloughs as is the reduction. So, if they are getting rid of 500 they offer 500 and thats it, instead of saying who wants a vol. furlough and awarding all of them. They SHOULD just offer it and if (example) 2000 people took it, well by golly, call back 1500 people!

Wouldnt you rather have junior, lower paid employees who want to be there than ones who have had enough and dont want to be there? The company doesnt understand this. There are PLENTY of FAs who'd like to retire, there are plenty who'd like a voluntary. They are active because they haven't been offered anything. Then on the other end they have thousands who mostly want to return... Why not make everyone happy and let them help the company in thier own way?

Of the 5000 actives many want to stay, many want to leave (like kt said mostly senior reserves and who can blame them). Most inactives want to be back. Hello!!!

To Pitbull, Perry, AFA, and the flight attendants,

Congralatutions!

You have stayed the course, and won against overwhelming odds.

I truly hope, years down the line, we will look back at this time as a turning point in the working class's pursuit of justice.

You done good!

We, at IAM fleet, envy you!

I still have not seen anything definitive. Is there going to be some kind of announcement?
if they lose on the bus ruling i'd expect some kind of message stating how both AFA and IAM are breaking the backs of bronner and seigel.

Anyone know if the Hooters Stewardees are represented by the AFA?
Hooters air - yummy.

Nope, Hooters Flight Attendants are not YET organized/unionized/represented. They were, however, hiring last I checked their website. They are required to hire the 3 FAR f/a's without sex discrimination, but they also add 2 "Hooters Girls" as hostesses (we'd think of them as extra's without FAR training, probably).

But I digress.....

PITBull and AFA in general! Good work and congratulations. I seem to recall just a few days ago a certain "analyst" predicting an AFA defeat on this. Silly "analyst"!

Seriously, this is a good step forward. I'd be on the lookout for management to come out with some sort of vindictive spinmachine soon that somehow blames company performance upon this AFA victory (perhaps they can blame bad weather on it too).

But we should all take heart and know that as nasty and down-in-the-dirt this "management" group gets, justice can and will prevail, especially if good people work together in solidarity with each other and don't allow whiners and weenies to divert them.

And a question for PITbull (similar to one that was asked earlier by BMIBaby): How are the MidAtlantic f/a position fillings going to be effected by this? What is your speculation? Those of us who were furloughed a long long time ago are quite curious. Going all the way back to the probationaries who were initially summarily terminated by the company on 9/28/01 and later converted to invol. furloughees. And everyone laid off since then as well.

And if the company is having such a hard time filling the slots at their sweatshop in the sky, then maybe it is time for them to make it less of a sweatshop!

In solidarity,
Airlineorphan

Hooters Air doesnt really have F/As as such. Pace Airlines operates it along with other stuff. Dont know if they are union. The flights are staffed with three real Pace F/As, and also some Hooters girls who dont perform any actual F/A duties. They just bounce through the cabin after takeoff offering wings and beer or whatever and generally being classy.

I'm not surprised at the lackluster response to MAA from the more senior, recently furloughed folks. The more junior into the "MI'd" list you go there is more interest. Sadly, management doesnt give a hoot who works those jets. They would have no trouble hiring off the street for MAA, especially for such a big, fancy plane (the F/A job market is not what it was for us. We used to go to open houses and debate the merits of US Airways vs United vs Continental with other hopefuls, nowadays you hear people exitedly talk of how thier waiting to hear from ACA and Comair  )

Airline,

Greetings.
I agree.

MAA will be effected . Only the 552 INVOLs were offered first round.

They didn't fill even those 4 month classes, so they will now proceed down the INVOL list starting with Sept 2003, then June 2003, May 2003, Dec. 2002, June 2002, Dec, 2001 and Nov (prob/INvols)2001.
