The winds of change are starting to kick up. It's going to roll through the bases like a tidal wave in the next 2 years. April 15th should prove very interesting for us all.

Local Elections - The Election Process

Dear Member,
The Election Process - (Article V111 C.1.; Section IX F)
AFA-CWA’s policies provide for a two-step election process. The first is a nomination ballot, which is a paper ballot where you indicate the name of your nominee. The second step is the election ballot, which bears the names of the persons nominated who are committed to serve in that particular office. The nomination process is like a primary election, while the election process is like a general election.
The nomination process begins five to six months before the start of a new term of office. A complete schedule for elections can be found on the AFA-CWA website www.afanet.org/elections. The International office mails a letter of instruction, a nomination ballot and a "Commitment to Serve" statement to each active member of a local council when an election is required. The nomination and election process for Council 89 will begin next week with the first nomination ballots mailed on January 15, 2010.
If you are an active member in good standing, you have the right to nominate one person who is committed to serve for each position being elected. It is your responsibility to determine whether your proposed candidate is committed to serve. Your candidate’s name cannot be place on the election ballot unless she or he has signed a "Commitment to Serve" statement or checked the block provided for this purpose on the return envelope for the nomination ballot. You may also nominate yourself for a position by signing the "Commitment to Serve" statement and writing in your name for the office you wish to fill. In order to appear on the election ballot, each person must have a minimum of two (2) nominations.
The Nomination Schedule is as followed:
January 15, 2010 ballot mail date
February 5, 2010 ballot postmark date
February 15, 2010 ballot count date
The Election Schedule is as followed:
March 15, 2010 ballot mail date
April 5, 2010 ballot postmark date
April 15, 2010 ballot count date
Please call the Local Office at 704-527-0325 if you have any questions about the election process or you do not receive a nomination ballot. You can also call the AFA-CWA Ballot Help Line at 1-800-424-2401.

I don't know who MG and JH are but I would like an MGD about now, or some tums for the indigestion I have that we are in our FIFTH YEAR OF THIS TRAINWRECK and the light has yet to shine.

So scheduling quick called some f/a's in DC this morning at 0530 to DH to BOS at 0730 to sit OPR from 10-2, then DH back to DC on the 3pm shuttle. Another 8+ hour duty day of deadheading to other bases to sit around a crew room for 3:30...

I would love to see some RSVs on the jnc and mec... Or we could continue to watch this nightmare scenario continue to move on the way it has.

I'm sorry so many 2ndary BH's are back on RSV in Jan (and prob Feb) but maybe if enough people join us in the cespool they might start to care a little bit. Or not.

oh VAfLyGal...you seem to be an advocate for Reserves...why don't you run during the next election at your base? From what I hear, your LEC President is more interested in training puppies than getting you guys a fair deal. LGA is all abuzz about him picking up a new puppy the other day.

How quickly we forget.......A Reserve (MM) gave you that POS Reserve Section of the contract. (And she has taken a leave, so she doesn't have to work under it)

I'm one of those people who is a praise-and-approval gal. Working in a thankless environment would tox my soul beyond recognition. People always want to blame you for what happened or what didn't happen or what could have happened or the crosswinds over the Potomac the day the sun set 1• off its normal course.
I personally like AB. His work with the dogs, in my opinion, is charitable. Maybe I'm naive, but personally, I think Mike is allowing this process to drag along way past the point of what's necessary. The gestation period of a contract should not be 60 months while some collect 105 per AFA and others rot at 73 on the LTO. Talk about a caste system.

What does it matter if someone is a RSV or a Blockholder as long as they know the contract and represent both sides? Why should it matter what code is behind someones name? I want change too but I don't want a RSV in office with no clue about the rest of the contract just as much as I don't want a blockholder that has no clue about RSV. Have we become that fragmented and us vs them?
PSA- I remember BWI election very well. The rsvs swept the election then it got crazy after the base closed. MM ran for PHL leaving the base with no LECP. Come to think of it that make have just been the start of the crazy antics AFA I have come to distain.

I'm not saying I want some green bean in office that doesn't know how the game works, but I don't think I'm alone in that I do feel that some in office don't know how bad it is in this pit of despair.
I was off property when the bk contract got shoved on everyone.
I still find it interesting that neither afa nor management has mentioned anything about the 18000+ stranded customers from last week.
In the meantime...

I think the co did mention in the USDaily. Many of these people were rebooked. I personally was putting a full fare relative on a flight the Sunday after much cancellations. I was amazed at how orderly everything was and the agent told me they made re-bookings for many of the passengers. Didn't even make any news.

I'm all for doing good for charity, but how much does your LEC President fly and what is he doing to make things better at your base? That would be my question if I was there. I know my base sucks.

He flies. I don't know exactly how much but I see him in the crew room quite a lot and he is often on the bid sheet. I feel like he is an advocate for the f/a group at large. In fact I personally appreciate all three of our elected council people - one of whom is a reserve. If you ever have questions they get back to you with the answers, they are professional, and they play fair. We also have a reserve chair that is smart as a whip when it comes to the contract. I appreciate her and Sherri Baker, who is in BOS.

Have all of you filled out those postcards the union has that are postage paid and go to congress? They are trying very hard to lobby congress to get the carry-on bag situation regulated. It seems it would take an act of congress to keep some people from lugging their entire wardrobe onto the aircraft. I'm beyond over the carry on nightmare and I'm sick of hearing that f/a's are taking delays because there were a stack of bags at the bottom of the jetway that needed to be checked. Not our fault.

Sorry your LEC sucks. I don't know where you are based but hopefully you will feel more represented in the future.

Thats because they "pre-canceled" flights and compensated the customers as a result. Many trips originated in LGA with so many LGA-CLT canceled and were re-booked through various cities. What they did was contact the customers on these flights, re-booked them, and gave them compensation. I spoke with customers that were delayed as long as four (yes 4) days, and they were fine. These folks were paid and hence, they were happy, and the media did not get involved.....

I'd luv to see how much it cost the company for this "damage control".

I can't wait to meet and greet some folks that have signed up for election and what they have to say. I'd bet its going to be a tough battle!

I wouldn't put all of the blame on Mike. I went to the last Reserve Round Table and he and Carol showed good resolve and common sense thinking on the Reserve Issues.

Having to caucus with the PHX LEC takes up incredible amounts of time. If the Flight Attendants here elect Lisa LeCarre supporters for the open Union offices instead of getting balance into the West AFA by electing multi-base minds to offset her single minded cause, it will take forever.

I'm curious what Multi-base minds means... We've never had the joy of multiple LECs. I doubt we have anyone with that experience out West.

But in any case, you're not going to find anyone out here on the West who's going to hold a LEC position who isn't also singular in their desire to fight hard to keep the best parts of our way of life intact in a merged contract.

We're all for becoming one happy family, but we've no desire to shoot ourselves in the foot to accomplish that.

Actually, truth be told, that POS Reserve System would have been SOOO MUCH WORSE if MM hadn't been on the Neg. Comm. at the time ... remember those were consessionary negotiations during bankruptcy. Yet, evey base except PIT voted to ratify ... go figure ....

Yes, the fisrt 6 months of 2002 were "interesting" times for the East MEC, however, Council 87 was not stirring the pot .....
