AA and Labor Negotiations-2020

It wasn't specified, or when it is supposed to be restored. Or if we will get that money back next year. Scott was giving us a grim picture if demand doesn't pick up by 9/30. And they will get a picture of what is going to happen by the middle or end of July to see how traffic will pick up. So I'm thinking this is temp till 9/30 when the CARES Act will be expired. More details of this will be given out on Monday, since the District is trying to fight it. Hopefully, this will be temporary, but people are throwing up speculation that this is done to avoid any bumping rights that the survivors (after 10/1) of this may have since everybody is PT. This and other things will be explained to us on Monday. Since this bomb dropped on a weekend, people (like myself) are still trying to digest all of this, since this affects any 401K contributions; vacation accruals (for next year); sick time accruals; and how this years vacation (which most senior people use the summer months of Jun-Aug to take off). Myself, I have three weeks between now and D-Day. I also have flex days which I haven't used yet as well. Some guys will be using all of their sick time and vacation time, because they may or may not make the cut at D-Day. I'd like to know how this is going to work, since we will probably have to bid again.
To me it would be easier to swallow if all work groups took a cut(there is a crisis) but this is just IAM members I'm not sure if managers are taking the cut. I ride the bus with UAL members at LGA and they are still bitter about JFK closing. This is going to kill labor relations for years to come at UA even though I'm sure everyone at every airline is going to get hit in October

Well what they are planning is cutting all full time to part time and I’m sorry but that is a BS technicality because that is a cut in pay just as if you were a salaried employee in that you have cut their monthly income by half.
This is for now not October so this is BS and if UA gets away with it then they should be forced to return the loan money .
I mean hell if I got cut to part time hours I’d be better of getting unemployment which by the way that’s exactly why UA wants to this to avoid paying out unemployment
It never ends with these heartless bastards in corporate America
I very much agree with you, it is BS. Cutting the hours is the exact same results as keeping you at FT but cutting your pay by 50%.
Now I don't know how the unemployment benefits are paid by the co. or if it's by the co's insurance co.. If by the insurance, it would be to the co. and the employees benefit (with the added 600 fed pay) for some folks, and they don't have to work as much. I am not sure if this is true for the mechanics.

Maybe some can write the feds and complain and fight for getting put back on FT status at least until Oct.

robbed and kev, I will post if or when SWA makes any changes. Some of us at work have been thinking they might cut the hours instead of any layoffs first.

Thx SWAMT. For us i know of 1 mgr who retired few days ago. I do honestly fear that layoffs will come. Just matter of how severe. AA said itll be smaller yet no hub closure. Im trying to fig that one out bec theyve retired aircraft n they are planning to retire few more

Hell, everybody here (at EWR) is still mad about that foolish choice of closing JFK. The commute is expensive and bad enough for some. Another one of Jeff's great moves, along with gutting our cargo. At least we are getting our mail work back. We've been already been running it, but getting rid of the vendor is a start. And once people are re-certified (ie: using the forklifts, and etc,) maybe we can take back the whole operation. It has always been profitable, and now than ever it provides us work during these times.

Managers & Supervisors are already taking a big hit as well. They are running around the ramp on every flight checking us out, making sure we have the gate ready and not taking a unmet. It's PITA, I'll tell you....... I don't know many MX, but I know quite a few GSE and FAC MX. They are "retiring" (equipment from terminals not being used) GSE and staging it to where we can't use it. Looks like they are just fixing what is needed. And with terminal and concourses being being limited, there isn't much to do for them. I don't know what is in store for the IBT guys. FA's (which I think is one of the biggest workgroups) will be hit the hardest, since their flying hours have been severely cut.

We will know all of the details by Monday

I believe articles of the newly ratified JCBA are still being finalized. How sad is that? Now the uncertainty of the industry makes you wonder how that will affect the finalizing of the articles that were agreed on before this crisis? Reading the latest industry news I see all the airlines and aircraft manufacturers are going to be greatly affected by this pandemic. No one is immune. So we have two strikes already against us before the first pitch. The company will seek concessions and we have the association representing us.
Unless we go into concessions with our own class and craft union I'm afraid the house is for sale again.

A lot of "ifs" maybe if this is temporary you take a concessions and keep people work but if this is long term it makes no sense to keep people working when there is no work. IN October layoff and keep the people you have working somewhat happy.Im not saying that cause I'm senior but cause it makes sense. What they are doing to you a Ual (just IAM members) is BS if they did that to me they would pretty much lose me for the rest of my career and I'm a lot more pro company than pro union

I think part of it has to do with company’s simply not knowing what recovery looks like over the next 6-12 months? They want to keep people on hand to be ready to rebound, but have to balance that against bleeding cash now.

I’m guessing there will be more express flying which translates to fewer seats
I still see in fleet around 30 plus percent in layoffs.
I hope our pay will not be effected considering how long it took us to get where we are
