2014 Maintenance & Related & AMFA Cards

I asked a US mech a little while back and I think he said 3200-3500 mechanics total...

There are 50 Utility and the rest are mechanics active and stores is now its own class and craft.

Total is 4,600 eligible voters with about 800 utility on layoff.

the NMB numbers showed 4,375, so they must have hired some MX.

At any rate, the concern for me and fleet service members is that somehow the IAM has caused more of our members to drift into AMFA land.  During the vote last year, about 1,500 US AIRWAYS MX actually voted for IBT even though it was a critical time for negotiations. With the lame MX contract, I can't possibly imagine that AMFA wouldn't have more support than what was shown in the NMB vote against the IAM.  At AMR, it seems even more support for AMFA is growing.

Whatever the case, the AFLCIO wouldn't be in this possible situation of losing 10,000 members if the TWU was simply allowed to accrete the US AIRWAYS MX and worked out a seniority deal.  Isn't that what AFA did?

It will be interesting and I'm hoping the Association path is more clear, otherwise, we lose leverage in fleet service.  We need the mechanics to get a better contract.

The exact number was 4,593 but that included 85 Fleet who were eligible to vote, including mechanics and utility on layoff.

There was 9,000 and that was before two chapter 11 cases with three rounds of concessions and a CBA abrogation and we had around 6,000 in the class and craft before the abrogation. Dont let the facts get in your way.
Don't let the facts get in your way. The IAM still has THOUSANDS of AMT's on lay off and still has stations cutting work force with this so called strong scope.

The IAM put a POS Contract on the table to avoid a possible strike vote and sugar coated it calling it a bridge contract and did this for IT'S BEST INTEREST not the members, So they could get back to the IAM /TWU association BS and not loose DUES.
To but a contract on the table with a pay scale not even in the low mid range was just a flat out FAILURE OF REPRESENTATION OF THE MEMBERS BY THE IAM.

To Ram this POS IAMPF at us and use it like a gun at our heads is just a TRAVESTY as the IAM sold our Profit Sharing and Bargained with our pay to impalement this POS PF.  THE IAM had all ready CUT futures on the IAMPF and TOLD the membership a white lie that it was in the green 106%, And to keep it in the green will at any time CUT Futures AGAIN.

For as smart as we AMT's are, How can we set back and let this Union do this to us. They are not doing what we pay them for, So it's time to fire them and put some one else in charge of our future.

I seen the truth a long time ago and have wanted a NEW Union and the IAM/TWU IS NOT IT.

i was surprised that fleet service did so much better than the mechanics at us airways. I know mechanics were bummed that nothing was addressed in their contract after the Ill Ask Management stomped its feet in the media saying "We gonna strikes!" But the mx was hostage to that awfulagreement when higgy said he didnt want to do a strike vote. Without a strike vote, there was a clear and present risk of going into joint talks with $0.
3% is better than $0.

Thankfully fleet got 12%, but fleet is the bigger group.

Moving forward, usairways mx risk losing retirement contributions as 700 has confirmed, so now isnt the time for usairways mx to vote for amfa. Nothing against amfa but whether mx want to stick with fleet service and the iam isnt the question. The guestion is if they want to stop all retirement contributions, presumably for 3-5 years with another union struggle. So it makes no sense to vote against the association.

Listen to you using the pension 'gun to the head'. It's a small price to pay for those who want out of the alliance mess.

im not saying it is right but the iam would be extremely bitter with amfa finally taking its last remaining legacy mx. So i think the iam and company really would put the screws to the mx and pull the trigger as 700 threatened. The iam has shifted to a non skilled union in the airlines. When i was director of organizing i wanted to go after the delta, spirit or jetblue mx with a strong organizing drive but the iam said no way. They said they didnt want to organize a bunch of cry babies that are never satisfied so they approved only ramp or ticket agent organizing drives. Thats their current stance as well from what i know.

The IAM is bitter! They can go pack sand for all I care. They can take this POS PF and stick it. Give me a Industry MID PAY SCALE at  $15K to $20K more a year and I'll put that money to good uses for a retirement and it's MY MONEY and no ones going to cut futures from it but me.
It's the IAM's fault if they loose MX they were put on notice when the IBT got enough cards to trigger a vote. Most put a card in to let the IAM know how upset they were but voted IAM. Who Knows this time, All I know is all the mech's I work with that put in IBT cards put in AMFA cards this time and that is 95% of the shop the rest are OLD die hard IAM and the word old is used properly. This contract may be the end of the IAM along with this IAM/TWU BS. The bottom line is the IAM has failed the AMT's for what we pay them for.
Have a good one Tim..

The Ill Ask Management doesnt listen so if the AMT signed ibt cards to get the iams attention then they were sorely mistaken.
they just dont listen and are arrogant as hell. The iam produced a lousy mx contract but if they vote the iam out then they wont get retirement contributions for years. 700 is usually off his rocker but when he laid down the iam pension threat, folks better believe it.
This will b my last post regarding this potential rep dispute unless 700 pisses me off. Then ill crank some things up. Tommy put a leash on 700 otherwise im opening up a can.

No one has a leash on me.  I post what I want and when I want, as I dont work for the IAM nor do I get paid from them nor do I speak for them.

Tim with this contract, To try to hold the AMT's captive with the IAMPF in which they did not get any increases as they said they were and not getting a industry leading wage or even close, Still on the bottom, To use this as a threat is getting old and flat pisses me off more and more. Like I said the money we would get with a good contract with a 401K match would more that make up for the lost PF input. We will still have the PF when we retire just won't get any larger and we will have a union that works for us not us working for them.

And you're right looks like 700 has been put on a IAM leash probably told not to piss any more off than they already are or he see's the light.

No leash, I dont work the IAM and I dont speak for them nor do I get compensated.

I post what I want when I want, and I have been busy with my business.
