US/UA Merger Master Thread

I plan on going back to Hawaii someday. I've already looked at job opportunities there. If we get a HNL base in the future, it would be too perfect.

I plan on keeping my ramp job. I have already looked at opportunities into keeping my job when the furloughs begin. Any suggestions on where a 12-year "junior" employee with a merged United/USAirways would likely be safe? I'm hoping LAX works, cause I've worked there before and it is the closest to where I am at now...

OK, can a UA flight attendant lurking on here give any insight as to what the senior and the junior crew bases are? What kind of seniority for the most junior line holder in the UA bases? Thanks

HNL Crew Base!

Are you for real???? You couldn't touch HNL if you tried for the rest of your life - so i wouldn't get that excited.... The transfer list to get into HNL, is longer than all the f/a's combined at USAIRWAYS... I am sure bases will be closed for a relatively long time, ala HP US - the bases still aren't open,, you may be retired before you see anything happen, as we all know they are not the most anxious group to negotiate a combined contract.. I hope the TEMPE Team don't ruin UAL, if they get their 2 cents our international first and business will be chopped out, they will put more dry ice on the planes b/c they don't even know what a chiller cart is --- LOL .... closets will be ripped out for the jank arse style... It actually makes me ill, Even though we are nothing to brag about at UAL, at least we have decent product, until Tempe ruins it.... Sad - very SAD... I will personally protest a DP or Sherry Shamblin, they are both incompetent... ART -- lets get it started....

Well, there has NEVER been a fence in the history of an AFA-AFA merger and we are not about to start now. Once a merged contract is ratified, anyone can transfer based on openeings. The only reason East West transfers are not open is because we still have no contract because Tempe dragging it's feet and playing games! NO fences period.

That may be (although I doubt a LCC/UAL merger wouldn't have some fences).

But, even assuming there is a UAL/LCC merger, and even assuming there are no fences, the point with UA's HNL F/A base is that there are simply no openings, and probably never will be to any significant degree. UA management has made it pretty clear that the long-term plans for HNL are to shrink it through attrition, and probably ultimately close it. There was a massive surplus there around 1999-2000 that went back to about 1985 seniority. There have been very few - if any - transfers back in since then. Rotating reserve routinely goes to 1970s seniority.

It used to be a thriving base, when HNL was more of a hub for Pacific operations before the 747-400s came fully on line. Now it is mostly some 757s (plus a few high-density 767-300 / 777s) per day to California (and one flight each to DEN and ORD) and I think only one Japan flight remaining. At least that is the basic schedule; I may be off on a few details.

The bottom line for F/As, though, is that if you are not already there, don't count on ever getting in, even if you are already at UAL.

Asking for 777 manuals and checking out HNL base, if there is a sense of decorum in yourselves please use it. UA people read up on "entitlement" because you're gonna a see that word a lot coming from USAir people.

Hey, just for grins....what's the most junior seniority for HNL? I know that it is around 18 years for international at IAD. Would you say-- 20, 25, or 30? Any separate list for language qualified?

I know very little about ramp positions. You'll be alright! I am concerned about massive layoffs though

Hmmmm.......

Airbus tail # N627AW started life painted in Pan Am colors. Next was Braniff, then AWA classic (off-white and maroon). AWA classic changed to AWA un-natural green/orange. Now we have the USAirways swoosh. Next United?

Screw airline stock. I'm going into the paint business.........

East only.

Yeah, 3 out of 36000 employees asking about something that might happen in the future. We're all a bunch of entitlement freaks.  If you're lucky they'll reopen the ROA and ILM bases and you guys can fight over that too....
