Folks, stop arguing about history. Talk about current labor and INTEGRATION issues related to the pending merger.

Well I can say this,

If they BRING the checks to SFO?? We can do them and Well. We Still do 'C' Checks landing gear changes a LOT of Specioal Route work, Interior changes And we still Can do everything up TO an overhaul buy since there are only Docks in
DOCK 1 for the 747-777 and Dock 3 for the 767, Dock 2, 2n,2w,Dock 1E,the North and South B29 Hangars and Docks,4,5,6,7 could all be used fir C ck lines. And with 10,000 mechanics on Furlogh?? Man?!? the possibilities are ENDLESS!! Much of the tooling was sent to Timco when we did Overhauls there, It has been Rumored that Much of it was returned. A LOT of it wasn't. We still Have orcan get our hands on anythong we need. as much of the tooling was multiple fleet stuff and the 737's haven't been gone long enough to forget about them. We might not know the avionics differences in yours but ours were EFIS cockits and We'rewell versed in all glass cockpits dealing with the Airbus. We CAN do the work suffuce to say.

I hope you get SFO back to the way it was. I worked there in the late 80's when it was the best in the world.

What numbers are we talking about with the Merger as far as mechanics?

Over at AA we do most of our work in house and we have around 9500 AMTS, around 1500 are OSMs.

Around 3500 Line Maint and the rest are OH.

With the merger and the formation of a single larger carrier hopefully you guys will start to bring more work back in house. In addition to SFO Ual used to be pretty big in IND, does UAL still have the lease on that base?

Where does CAL have major facilities? How much OH do they do?

UA Ramp seems partial to IBT. It would be good to be one big union MM and CG with CO Fleet. More leverage. Anyone with links to IBT info please post so I can place in our ready rooms here at UA.

Have a great day boys

I started working for UAL in November of 1999 as a mechanic since then I have been furloughed twice due to my low seniority. Can someone tell me if continental did any hiring from 2000 to 2009 ?

Richard, I have to respectfully disagree with you. History will teach us alot on how to go forward. We cannot forget about the past.

And I don't believe I ever said you made such a statement.

I did however correct you on an erroneous statement you made in a previous post where you asserted AMFA was the cause of UALs in house heavy checks being sent to China. I'd be happy to quote it for you if you've forgotten.

I'm not suprised that you're... not too concerned...you make a statement on erroneous information and when confronted with the facts of the situation you become dismissive. Thats also typical of our reps here in SFO.

As to your final opinion, I'll wholeheartedly disagree. Whats happened before is critically relevant when you're counting on those same individuals to get you where you're going.
The ibt and IAM are no different. They lie to you for their own agenda, then when confronted with the truth they shut down and ignore the truth. AMFA is the only union for AMT's. It's funny this guy wasn't even there, and he's trying to tell people that were there what happened. Kills me, they really think we are idiots.

I truly mean no disrespect, the whole strength in numbers didn't work out to well for the AMT's. It looks like it will be AMFA for us. And having been represented by both the IAM and ibt, I would recommend staying IAM.

It looks like about a third of their seniority list or 1000 people hired between 2000 and 2009. It won't matter if the ibt stays on the property for you. They said the laid off guys will be stapled to the bottom of the combined list when the new UAL starts recalling.

So that means if they layoff again we will be the first to go? Does are seniority still count for taking flights ?

Do you have more info on the laid-off people? Indy got screwed. If what you say is true then guys with 25+ years
won't be able to bid back into the system. The IBT used the INDY people to get votes. Now they turn their back on
them. If true it is typical of the IBT.

I had been told that you have to re-enter the system from where you were furloughed. If that is the case then the INDY people won't be able to get back into the system.

The ibt hasn't addressed the company seniority for flights or any of that stuff. But, yes to your question. If you are on the street at the time of the integration you will be on the bottom of the list when you get recalled into the merged company. Now don't count on that either. They have hinted about letting the life time recall go and clearing the whole recall list after the merger is complete.

They really haven't addressed the Indy guys. I don't think they know about the situation you guys got put in. They are telling UAL guys different things than they are telling CAL guys. You guys did get sold a bill of goods by the ibt, thats for sure. We all got sold a bill of goods by the dues collecting do nothing machine.

Read question 14

14. When the Seniority Lists Are Merged, What Happens To Stations That Have Staffing From Both Carriers? Who will get laid off?
One of the IBT’s main goals throughout the entire UAL-CAL merger process and the seniority integration process is to prevent layoffs as a result of the merger. History has shown, however, airline mergers often lead to capacity reductions and therefore headcount reductions. UAL and CAL management have assured all of the work groups that any headcount reductions that take place will happen through normal attrition, voluntary “early-out” retirements and regular retirements. After that, any necessary furloughs – and we will hard work to make sure there are none or as few as possible – will take place in seniority order. The IBT also fully anticipates and expects to craft “fencing protections” to avoid or at least significantly mitigate the impact of employees whose seniority is diluted as a result of the seniority integration process. The IBT also fully anticipates and expects to craft furlough protections that prohibit pre-seniority integration furloughed employees from bumping active employees.
