US/UA Merger Master Thread

Ever heard of a place called Pittsburgh? It was once the largest and main hub with the most employees in the US system.....anything can and will happen to make the airline profitable.

PIT dwindled as part of the old US in BK that was on the brink of liquidation. Most of the cuts in PIT were made from the previous management and not the HP/US merger.

While the east may come across as jaded I see it more as holding the management team to a higher standard since we have seen this crap over and over. Most on the west are just more "roll with the punches" types that are (and I don't mean any disrespect) in their own little world in Phoenix. All you have to do is watch some of the crew news sessions on the HUB to see the issues discussed and the importance of issues brought up between east and west. If and WHEN this merger happens the Usairways east f/a group will be watered down and the west f/a's will certainly be watered down. Look beyond what you see right now as these issues today will be of NO IMPORTANCE down the road.

We take a less confrontational way of working. yes we are very laid back and the issues are frustrating to watch   on the Crew news, but there are so many of us that only work part of the time here, so we take the path of least resistance  in the meantime, which is why we love our jobs..we don't dwell on the bad, just the great things. Not all...but most.

.... and he didn't get there by being stupid.
Presumably, no one else who will take the job. It is like the "divine wind" pilot, where everyone else takes one step back, leaving him with the job.

Yep, if there is no competition then intellect/stupidity has nothing to do with it.

Actually, you are half right.

PIT started "dwindling" when HP (AWA) was in BK, on the brink of liquidation, after getting their tutus handed them by SWA.

BUT.....nobody thought it would ever happen to Mecca (PIT) either! The Airline Industry will eat their own to stay alive! I guess no hub is safe in a merger like this could be....not even PHL.

HP was the only domestic airline that ever really held WN at bay. If you want to discuss tutu's being handed out, look at BWI.

As for the HP "liquidation", I suspect you are referring to the period immeditately after 9/11. If so you are grossly distorting why HP was suddenly out of operating capital post-9/11. HP had arranged for a routine financing transaction that was to close on 9/12/01. That deal was taken off the table the day before because of what occurred on 9/11. That is a fact and using that unforeseen liquidity problem as a justification for the argument that you are advancing is plain wrong.

Asking for 777 manuals and checking out HNL base, if there is a sense of decorum in yourselves please use it. UA people read up on "entitlement" because you're gonna a see that word a lot coming from USAir people.

Ahhhhh, Elevation you never disappoint you are so predictable.....no matter the subject you have to insert an EASTvsWEST comment....very childish

Actually, not. HP was allowed to retreat to PHX in the late 1980's, battered by SWA. Did HP not do bankruptcy then, only to be "rescued" by the "7-11" bankers of Columbus, Ohio, was it, led by Franke? One of the few reasons HP survived was because US walked away from the west coast, leaving all those empty gates for SWA to pick up after bypassing PHX.

Bankruptcy is rarely "liquidation". Read up on it. It would seem to be pretty interesting for a novice.

You know, saying you are just as bad as someone else is a rather pathetic way to try to win an argument. Example: Well! You have a rash, too!

Please correct me if I'm misinterpreting the above comments:

"...We take a less confrontational way of working. yes we are very laid back and the issues are frustrating to watch..."= WE ARE DOORMATS

"...so many of us that only work part of the time here, so we take the path of least resistance..."= WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE A REAL CAREER AND THEREFORE DO NOT PROFESSIONALLY UPHOLD THE STANDARDS THAT DEFINE EXCELLENCE.

" ...we love our jobs..we don't dwell on the bad, just the great things..."= THE KOOLAID IS DELICIOUS!!!!

With fuel over $120.00 a barrel and you're still concerned about glassware in FC?

Yes I do expect it since it has been advertised as part of the product (in the past.)

$120.00 a Barrel cost is not an excuse for running a poor operation.

At my hotel of choice ( Hilton Garden Inn) I still expect that there will be shampoo in the bathroom for me.

And before you talk about not paying for it. The hotel gives me 2 bottles of water and a snack at check in. Cookies every night, and a breakfast cooked to order. All included in my room rate. This is part of policy and with my status.

While fuel (energy costs) are a lower percent of the hotel's operating coat, it still part of the cost and they are adjusting.

My rate for the first week of April was $109.00/night and has gone up every week and will be $259.00 per night the last week of May.

This is mostly due to tourist season, the point is, they are adjusting the pricing and not cutting services to their best customers.

You mean all the airlines have to do is increase their fares 150% and their problems will be solved?

Brilliant! Why didn't they think of that sooner?

Are you for real???? You couldn't touch HNL if you tried for the rest of your life - so i wouldn't get that excited.... The transfer list to get into HNL, is longer than all the f/a's combined at USAIRWAYS... I am sure bases will be closed for a relatively long time, ala HP US - the bases still aren't open,, you may be retired before you see anything happen, as we all know they are not the most anxious group to negotiate a combined contract.. I hope the TEMPE Team don't ruin UAL, if they get their 2 cents our international first and business will be chopped out, they will put more dry ice on the planes b/c they don't even know what a chiller cart is --- LOL .... closets will be ripped out for the jank arse style... It actually makes me ill, Even though we are nothing to brag about at UAL, at least we have decent product, until Tempe ruins it.... Sad - very SAD... I will personally protest a DP or Sherry Shamblin, they are both incompetent... ART -- lets get it started....
I could'nt agree more with you Hi-C. When i read the article last night that the mgt team would be coming from Tempe, i literally screamed. I had high hope's of ridding our selve's of the Clampet's from PHX. I can only hope that they learned from this fiasco of a merger with HP. Though our product suffered after 2B/K's, it was better then than it is now. You have my sypathies..lol

Hey, Hey! Don't insult the Clampet's. They may have been hillbillys, but they were smart (excepting Jethro),street smart, that is. Remember they had swimming pools and movie stars.
