TWU negotiations.........what?

When is the last time there was a consistent downward trend for any extended duration with oil prices?

gas prices 1970-2009

Looks like prior to the economy tanking oil prices have been on the rise for 10 years. The only reason the prices dropped was because no on here could afford $5 gas and food.

Given the historic trend, what do you "think" will happen? When you make your next vehicle purchase will you get a 5 MPG vehicle or will you look into something that will get closer to 30 or even 40 MPG? When the US pulls out of the slump what do you think oil prices will do?

The "reason" oil prices tanked and have since stabilized is attributed to the speculators. The only way "demand" would have spurred that kind of plunge it would take 2/3 of the drivers off the road. That did not happen. People still drive their gas guzzlers, the lakes are full of speed boats, see my point. In my simple mind/terms our economy is in the sorry state it is due to the speculators driving up the price of oil, which influences Everything in dailey life. I`m sure there was "some" increase in demand but not enough to justify 147.00/bbl. If you think the past administration was not neck deep in all of it you are truely living with your head in the sand.
30 or 40 mpg? Are you drunk this early in the morning? I want to see 45+ minimum in town for an all gas powerplant. I don`t see, other than greedy politics, why we cant have 100mpg normal size vehicles on the road.
Look the company will always have an excuse. What they are doing now I consider a slap in the face to you,me and every other hard working employee of american airlines. They have refused to negotiate in good faith and now got what they wanted, mediation. They know this process will take quite some time. How much are they saving off us for every month/quarter/year they drag this out? "RESTORE AND MORE" has got to be more than a slogan or button. If they are allowed to drag this out another 18 months without the penalty of retro to the amendable date the a dangerous precedent has been set. "RESTORE AND MORE OR NO MORE AA"

Big difference between what happened at TWA and what happens at AA. The unions at AA will NEVER allow AA to go bankrupt. At the end of the day, the TWU will have us work for minimum wage before they cede union dues.

Really? It looks to me like APA is dead set on pushing the company into the courts via a pilot strike. I have never understood how that would benefit anyone.

The pilots usually get most of what they want and it comes at the expense of the TWU contract.

What makes these times so special is the fact that the American public, and even the world are finally seeing the greed that drives corporate America. You have all the masters of the universe on Capitol Hill defending their compensation at the expense of the taxpayer. At this point it might be time to show em how we feel....And just like the corporate bigwigs, i could care less about job loss for the masses. They want the US workforce to work for thirld world nation wages but exempt themselves from any sacrifice.

Actually, refiners have backed off their production due to lower demand. They had to. There is not enough tankage out there to store product if they continued to run at full capacity.

First and foremost, you need to understand that even though a strike may be called, there will, almost certainly, be a PEB (Presidential Emergency Board) formed and the pilots will be told to go back to work within minutes of any strike's onset.

The benefit will be in the form of press coverage. How that benefit would be used or squandered by the parties involved is a totally different story, however.

That's interesting. Has to make you question what the point of the RLA self-help process is if a PEB can just order them to go back to work.

At any rate, I've been seeing stories in the press recently where the pilots are signaling that they will use a strategy of selective work stoppages instead of a general strike. Don't know how that would play out with a PEB...

Who cares how it wil play out with the PEB. I wonder how Captain "Sully's" hearing before Congress will play out after he told them and the country how airlines have cut pilots salaries and pensions.

When news stations start reporting at airports where the pilots will stage informational picketing, more attention will be focused on AA executives accepting their PUP pay and hopefully will be received as well as the bank execs and the Big Three execs after they flew to DC on corporate jets.

Yes, let's see how it plays out indeed.

<_< ------ It's sad to see the direction the Airline Industry is headed! I saw the testimony, last week, of the Hudson River, US Air pilot, in front of a Congressional committee. His concerns about the fact that he believes there may be lack of "Quality" pilots in the future of the Industry, says it all! You could extrapolate that to include all areas of the Industry.------- At a time when the future, and safety, of General public, depend on the skills of those who fly, and maintain, the Aircraft of this great business, more than ever will be needed, they may not be there!------- Sad day! But his concerns, and those of others who have been in this business for many years, may be going unheeded!

MCI do you yell alot? I mean... all the time... whenever you speak? I know I've asked before, I guess I have to say this again; Why does nearly all sentences you write HAVE to end in a exclaimation point? It's really getting tiresome, not that I read all your posts, I don't come hear that often anymore for various reasons. I know your getting up there in years and maybe a becoming a bit "mentally unhinged", but could you give the !!!!! button a rest at some point in the very near future? Your one key will thank you as will I.

 AAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always thought typing with CAPS on signified someone yelling and the ! symbol meant strongly arguing a point.

I guess it depends on which internet grammar class one attended.
