TWU negotiations.........what?

You have got to be kidding me!!!!

Chess requires strategy and assumptions regarding your opponents next move. And you initiate a move to cause a probable move by your opponent to take place. All the while knowing what your next move if and when the opponent reacts as predicted.

AA May be playing Chess, but the TWU only plays tiddly winks. I have yet to see the TWU do anything but react to AA Managements or Politicians Moves. Never in 28 years I have seen the TWU take action in attempt to create a predetermined response. Unless you call a t-shirt with a slogan on it a strategic move.

Calling this BS a Chess Match is very degrading to the game of Chess and also to those that play the game well.

Out of respect for the game, please find another analogy. Jeezzzz.

the anaogy is correct...we the union members, have been suckered into a fool's mate!

What the courts are doing is allowing the company to be released but tying the hands of the Union. We are as justified in disregarding his edicts as Rosa Parks was to sit in the front of the bus. Rosa Parks voilated the law, but the law was morally corrupt, just as the NWA -APA ruling is. (I still have not seen FWAAAs response on this) What will the courts do to you, the individual member? Will they fine your Union? Yes. Will they imprison or fine me for writing this? Possibly, if thats what this country has come to. Will they come to your house and haul you off to jail if you all decide to call in sick in Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Memorial Day or any other Holiday? Will they force you to volunteer for OT? Will they make you use equipment thats defective or not follow every safety policy? I doubt it. IMO the reason why things have gotten as bad as they are is because those Judges and those politicians and the Airlines themselves were confident that we would let them get away with it, and they will not stop until we stop them and we must do so regardless of what some appelate Judge decrees. Am I blaming them? No I'm blaming us collectively.
I responded a couple weeks ago in the post linked below:

Don't know what else you're looking for.

Actually, I just used the term CHECK-MATE....Without alluding to the fact that a strategic game had been played at all....The TWU plays checkers while the company plays chess.
Be it "GAME OVER", "PARTY'S OVER", "FAT LADY HAS SUNG", "CHECK MATE", whatever, we are beaten as mechanics in this once proud career.

I do believe we will be getting something from AA/TWU put in front of us to vote on next week.

"The TWU Negotiating Committee’s are heading back to Dallas to meet again with AA next Tuesday April 17. The parties will meet and attempt to address language concerns regarding the company's last asks. The TWU negotiators want to review AA's proposals in full text instead of just bullet points. We will continue to keep you updated throughout next week."

We're holding our breath-can't wait for our death sentence-
I mean news! :-/

Gentlemen,

To inject a dose of levity, I offer the following rumor. A friend of mine is a retired AFW NDT engineer. He called me up a couple of days ago with this rumor (from an unimpeachable scource) that the TWU has made a deal with the CompAAny to keep AFW open!

I thought it was funny for a couple of days, till I thought about it.

Do you think the TWU would agree to keep AFW open and pay the mechanics minimum wage? (or something close to it) If it would keep the dues money flowing in?

They just might!

Understood...and yeah, the TWU would look over there shoulder at AFW(who they despise from AMFA drive days) to collect dues. But, again guys...keep in mind one thing. American MUST get it's maintenance budget in line with it's competitors. If it does not, it has squandered this (golden)opportunity to them do so.

And there's only two options as I see it:
more mechancs=much lower wages(IMO, utter war out on the line ops)
OR, less mechanics=higher wages across the system

I don't know about ya'll, I'll take the better standard of living. It is what it is.
Anyone else see a different way??

The better standard of living does not bring in more dues - you know that - this is the TWU.

Friday the talk, supposedly directly from the 567 high sherrif, is that due to the lack of MRO capacity AFW will stay open. I have had a feeling that as long as the company gets enough OSMs they would consider keeping AFW open.

I believe there is an MRO capacity crisis but if AFW is to remain open long term AA must achieve their term sheet goals. BTW, I find no reference to shutting down AFW in the 1113(c) filing. Why shut down any base if they can achieve section IV. C. ?
1. Increase flexibility in assigning work to lower cost TWU workers. Unlimited
2. Remove restrictions on locations and duties of OSM's. Unlimited
3. Remove limits on number of OSM's. Unlimited, who they claim "do much the same work as AMT's"
4. Remove limits on use of AMT's who do not possess or do not need FAA licenses. Unlimited license pay removal. Lose one license, voila, MRO rates.
