TWU negotiations.........what?

A labor organization that will use all available resources to obtain the highest wages and best benefits in the industry. One that will look out for the best interest of the dues payers not the dues collectors. Probably one not associated with the AFL-CIO.
So I believe that is AMFA? or an organization such as AMP, correct?

To Bob Owens......Thanks for beating down president Gilboy to the point where he's not seeking re-election for president, and instead is running for e-board. The local guys beat him up pretty good lately. Good job!

Nothing like a local president succumbing to peer pressure!

I agree with the premise of what AMFA stands for. I'm sold on AMP, but worried about it's financial situation.
It does not seem that you would have much choice. You did mention it would probably not be an AFL-CIO based union. Before you decide to farm out OH or be farmed out, you should reflect on this issue. The line does hold the TWU in high disdain, so what are your options.

Welders are AMT's and therefore title I. How about a little respect.

No disrespect intended, welders are obviously very skilled.

But the informer will not be bumbing any line mech, until be takes the time to get an A&P license, about 2 years in school.

Remember if overhaul goes alone they are no longer covered under RLA. PEMCO is overhaul and they are NLRA. Upside is there is no 30 day cooling off to strike, downside is they could move the work at the drop of a hat to other RTW states.

A lot to think about when considering separating the Line and the Base. Don't you like the option of if there is downsizing you can bump line or other bases?

So if this is what you feel your worth, why then o spineless one did you vote yes for the last TA?

No need to be insulting,

I voted yes because,

-our union negotiating committee recommended it.
-a $3 dollar an hour raise, so far we're out about $9k that would be in our pockets.
- plus holidays and sick time
- I'm not too confident that the TWU could have gotten more.(it was AMFA at NWA that really got us that huge pay raise in 2001).
- as long as Line is part of OH we will never get $43 an hour, I don't think we will ever be seperated from OH until BK, which I don't think will happen, so "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" (It's better to have a small real advantage than the possibility of a greater one.)
-the economy was and is still not good, expecting a huge pay day is just not realistic.
-I believe the days of OH shutting down for the weekends and holidays, having those planes and facilities sitting idle, is a thing of the past.

yes I know about retiree medical,OSMs were bad deals, but I don't know too many guys that will be able to retire before 65 years old, a lot of guys want to, but with expensive housing/taxes, kids in college, all that stuff made money now more important then the hope of retiring early.

The true test to see if I was wrong, is when/if we ever get a new TA, and we will be making more $ then the last TA, and make up for the $9k we didn't get for this last year.

Like it or not, those are my reasons.

Of course I like the option to use my seniority as it was designed. I do not want the line to seperate, however if it were to happen, I would gladly do whatever I had to to continue in the profession. I am for a modest line premium and Geo pay but I would not want to give up to much to get it. Line premium is sort of like shift differential right? Something like fifty cents?

It's not about Line or Geo pay, it's about giving Line the ability to earn the highest available market rates and benefits. The market rates for Line and OH are not the same. The wages WE work under are TWU market rate, and it's the same for all AMT's, Plant, Facilities, and Automotive. That's like saying All baseball players should be making the same because they're all baseball players. And, that's not the case. Each player brings something different to the table. It shouldn't be any different in our industry. We need to get away from that theory that We're ALL the same, because We're not.....each mechanics group provides something different to AA.

Actually, I have all of my paperwork signed off for my experience for both Airframe and Power Plant.
I can take my test at anytime, just have not felt the need to join the likes of you of late.

I am very proud of who I am and what I do.
My biggest fear is to be required to become one of you that believes a dream of personal worth beyond replacement.

But go get your seperate contracts, spin off overhaul, and $45 per hour and you will see many of me becoming you real quick and seniority will count.

I wouldn't have to go to one day of school.

But of course you can continue to bury your head in sand and live the pipe dream without compassion and humility.
I will set back and play my cards as needed.

I have no desire to engage in an emotional arguement with fools.
I will let the facts speak for themselves.

We recently had a co-worker killed while working on a piece of ground equipment, which should be a Title II (automotive) function.
And all you can think of is how damn important you and your job is.

Wake up and pay attention!

Go tell that man's family how everyone else is inferior to you, and how damn important your job is compared to everyone else.
Everyone at this Airline has an important function to contribute. Everyone has risk involved in their jobs. And everyone could face the same fate and not retrun home safely and/or alive on a daily basis. Some could be contaminated by toxic chemicals and their fate is already sealed in the future, and they don't even know it yet.

And yet, many are not walking around whining every damn day about how great they are themselves and down grading the importance of others.

You make me sick, and embarrased to be called "Union Men".
You actually sound like the most anti-union person I know of...period.
Why don't you go enroll in Organized Labor for Dummies and get a clue?

Take a crack at Humility and Compassion in your life and see how that works for you!

You need to take a chill pill dude. I didn't degrade anybody here. Everyone's job is important, and I'm only making a point about pay rates for different jobs. You know who makes me sick....people that are part of group that call themselves a majority and find it ok to decide my pay....you can go to hell if gonna sit by and watch you decide my pay, and especially when you don't have a an license to work on aircraft. This isn't a union because if it was you would understand our fight. It's about equality.....something you don't understand!

You claim not to degrade anybody here and then once again degrade me for not having my license.
