TWU negotiations.........what?

One more full week of negotiations.
One more non-compensation Article T/A'd

WOW, I am very impressed.
Maybe next month we can picket for two full weeks and get 2 Articles T/A'd

Being Affiliated with the AFL-CIO is so beneficial my wallet runneth over.
what article got t/a'd

I've heard rumor that the TWU International intentionally delegated the duty of the continued negotiation process to the Presidents from the locals that rejected the TA. This was basically to set these guys up to fail. This does not sound unlike anything I would believe under normal circumstances but it makes complete sense knowing that the International is very disenchanted with the vocal communications of Bob Owens...

While its been reported to me that some Local Presidents feel that way I dont think its the case as far as the International, Informer pretty much stated why. If we fail then the likelyhood of the TWU losing their members to AMP increases. Under the current situation, with a card drive going on and a rejected TA the International needs for us to bring back a good contract. I'll admit that absent a drive the theory is plausible but I dont think thats the case. At this point the International would have more to lose if we fail than I would. I believe the same goes for the rest of the sub-committee. In my case I only promised to do my best and I have, the members of 562 could call for my removal if they chose and I would go back to my box and pick up where I left off on my second job, with me being home my wife could work full time, between the two it more than make up for the loss of Presidents pay. If we fail to bring back a fair deal the International could lose around $7million/year in dues and the company would face a new union that has something to prove.

Article 39 (Fitness for Duty) was tentatively agreed to with the assistance from members of the TWU ATD AA-System Benefits Committee. Later that evening, the M&R Negotiating Committee (Table Team) gave counter proposals for Articles 3 (Hours of Work) and 11 (Classification and Qualifications) to Management.

Bob,
Their is a rumor going around at AFW that the twu international was against the idea of informational picketing at DFW on Monday, but when they found out is was going to happen with or without their support, they came out with their Campaign for justice and were all for it. Any truth to this?
Also, their were two fliers posted about the picketing, one in the hanger and one in TAESL and they were signed by the local presidents, I saw Larry's signature for 567 but I did not see yours, were you against it? Even though it was signed by our local president none of his boys promoted it and some of his shop stewards knew nothing about it.

Not to my knowledge, in fact I think the International encouraged it.

Larry and I are very much on the same page. I would have signed it but I was not there due to stuff I had to take care of at the Local. I thought it was a good idea, some will criticize it but I'd rather we do something and hear about it than do nothing and hear about it.

While we dont always agree I credit those who organized it. I think they did a good job and I'd like to see more. Some will claim it does nothing to pressure the company but one thing for sure is it doesnt make it easier for them either, otherwise they would not have pulled strings with the airport and changed the permits at the last minute.

Based on our past exchanges I suspect that there wasnt much in that cup to start with anyway.

Sound like Luis?? Aw shut your "pie hole", I didnt mention anything about "Working Together".

Bob,
With our next meeting March 7 and having difficulty closing out the non-monetary articles, how long can this drag out?

I can only guess since there is no timetable. But if you look at the way the NMB operates they tend to favor allowing time to force workers to negotiate against themselves. I've spoken numerous times how the status quo now only applies when its in the carriers interests, thanks to BK.

They let AMTRACK hang out there for eight years. Look at what they've done to Fleet, nine months and no talks, no release.

Its only when there's the appearance that operations may be significantly disruputed outside the process that the NMB will move to encourage the workers that there is some fairness in the system to bring them back in. Apparently everything was fine at Amtrack, apparently they never engaged in sick outs or work to rule activities and not enough people simply quit. In other words despite what their Union was saying at the table the workers through their actions indicated that the status quo was acceptable. I dont even recall ever seeing any informational picketing. So if everybody is sending the message that they are happy then my guess is it could go another five years, if the workers start letting them know how unhappy they are we could have an agreement by Easter. "This the business we've chosen."

The message is clear, but our local presidents must relay the information through the chain of command down to the floor. Thanks for the info, we appriciate it.

Bob, do you mean Easter 2013?

Bob,
What role is the international playing in these negotiations? Is their seperate talks with the international and the company, or does all the info funnel through Phat Don to Jimmy L?
