TWU negotiations.........what?

It seems that American Airlines is taking another step into not knowing what they are doing. Sysytem wide they are increasing management headcount in aircraft maintenance. What do they think this will accomplish? Do the powers to be think that more management will increase production and moral or that they will have a better grip on the operation? the best answer is "hell no". Things only have a chance of getting better if the company delivers the employees a contract they can live with. Period! We don't need more management, consultants, or acronym company realted programs to tell you that. Either put up or shut up!

NO retro = No deal

To scared or not willing to give up their, double double single, unlimited CS's, midnight cat nap, ect. The company and the twu have these people right where they want them, they are under control . To bad it's all about me, instead of us, that is why we need local help.
Well guys have become dependant on the CS's because they need to work two jobs. They will eventually have to realize if they want their lives back they will need to take a stand, or if we keep letting the company have their way in exchange for the flexibility, which they could take away at any time, we will be needing three jobs to make what we should be making at one.

UPS in reality has simply kept pace with inflation, the gap between us and them is how far behind we have allowed ourselves to become. Sad when working people start to believe that simply not falling behind is a "pipe dream". If we look at our International their salaries have also kept pace with inflation, we have every right to expect them to deliver the same for us that our dues provide them. Management has far exceeded inflation, our lost wages go to them, and plenty of others. Seven figures for the NY Pops!!!

Below is an interesting comparison from the airline forums website, based on the new UPS agreement.

UPS rate of pay as of 11/1/10 =$46.70
AA Rate of pay as of 11/1/10=$32.75

Difference= $13.95/hr

$29,016.00/yr

This isnt the type of difference we should see between two airlines, its the difference we would expect to see between a civilized country and third world one!

Add in what AA Mechs pay for medical and that brings the difference up to around $16.50.

Then tack on LTD and STD, another .50.

Then tack on the Holidays and vacations they get that we don't, at least another $2/hr

UPS mechs are getting around $9/hr more than we are.

That comes out to around $39,000 per year.

AA gets a mechanic and an OSM for what UPS pays a mechanic.

WE ARE TO THE MECHANICS AT UPS WHAT EL SALVADOR WORKERS ARE TO US WORKERS!!!

UPS obviously realizes that there aren't many mechanics out there. Otherwise why would they agree to pay $50/hr when AA and others are only paying $32.75? If there was a supply of mechanics out there it would make economic sense for UPS to split the difference, still paying way more than AA and try to find just 900 scabs.

Remember, despite what the company folks say the smaller the group the easier it is to bust them. Larger groups of workers have more leverage not less. If UPS couldn't take on their mechanics and just sub out their work what makes anyone believe that all of a sudden AA could find enough scabs or quickly outsource their work and keep their operation going? UPS like AA has been bringing more work back in house, just like many other carriers. Outfits like AAR have been having trouble recruiting mechanics and as the carriers are finding that their recall lists are proving to be hollow, most refuse to come back, having found better jobs outside the industry.

We cant keep cowering due to what happened at NWA six years ago. Things have changed, the pendulum has swung. They prepared for what they did at a time when thousands of mechanics had recently lost their jobs, still they had a hard time recruiting enough mechanics to maintain their operations and eventually were bought out by DELTA.The pool is near dry, most who were laid off have permanently left the industry. MROs cant find them, airlines have run through their recall lists and as we see at UPS airlines realize that they have to pay to play.
1037 Days of Extended Concessions

Please forward this to all the AA title I & II contacts in your address book.

AMP website is www.AMPNATIONAL.org

If your membership believes In what you are saying then they Will do The right thing. Whether to get rid of TWU or join another union or go with no union at all. Your membership has a right to decide and if the majority feels they are being taken shame on them for not standing up.

Iron your snake shirts boys, we are now under a "Campaign for Justice."
Yep, just a few days ago rumor was the international was against the informational picketing. Now, in fear of losing dues payers, they're all for it.

Is this similar to a John Kerry moment, ergo, "I was against it before I was for it", type of thing?

Remember one thing - this so-called "union" is doing us no favors by referring to these payouts as something they are not - "bonuses". They are part of the execs' employment contracts that governs their compensation - the "employment contract", according to most company sympathizers and anti-union trash the employees don't deserve.

These are the contractual "extras" due these sacks of crap. The TWU raised hell about these awards originally being in cash in 2003 so they became stock awards.

The idiots at The Worthless Union can't even keep their misinformation straight:

The five top officials at AMR, American’s parent company, have given themselves more than $300 million in bonus pay.

No, the top five execs have not been paid $300 million; the total PUP/PSP payouts to almost 1,000 top level swine has totaled about $300 million.

No wonder these clowns can't get you guys a decent contract. Can't fix stupid.

I'd be hopping mad if my union and its leaders were this stupid and ineffective. When will AMP have enough cards?

Rumor on the floor is....
Still discussing Article 12, and the company is pissed about the picketing.
FWIW

One more full week of negotiations.
One more non-compensation Article T/A'd

WOW, I am very impressed.
Maybe next month we can picket for two full weeks and get 2 Articles T/A'd

Being Affiliated with the AFL-CIO is so beneficial my wallet runneth over.

I believe the membership, of course without the docile unions involvement, should turn down overtime for 1 week to send a clear message to the mediator and all involved that meeting one week a month is unacceptable.

Good luck

Words can not express the level of contempt I have for this union, and the mediator for starting this entire negotiation process over from square one. I fully expect the company to screw us, it's their job.

Anybody with doubts about signing an AMP authorization card should reconsider. You're looking at another 2 years of negotiations (minimum) with the current representation, or lack there of.

The TWU is obviously taking it out on the membership by allowing this process to start over, because of their disappointment over the rejected TA. It doesn't affect their pocketbook, they all got significant raises !

The now supposedly labor friendly NMB mediators are too weak to attempt to get anything done. Just do their time, remain non committal until their tour at the NMB is over, and then add that to their resume'.

I've heard rumor that the TWU International intentionally delegated the duty of the continued negotiation process to the Presidents from the locals that rejected the TA. This was basically to set these guys up to fail. This does not sound unlike anything I would believe under normal circumstances but it makes complete sense knowing that the International is very disenchanted with the vocal communications of Bob Owens...

That strategy will leave the TWU without the Mechanic and Related dues payers in the end.

I would willingly take one more shafting if the TWU is removed as our union in exchange...bring it on!
