TWU negotiations.........what?

In the last 4 weeks or so, JFK, LGA, BOS, ORD line maint and AFW "AMT candidate pool" postings have been on aacareers.com external board.
The company is starting to hire off the street, ever so slowly.
True, but there are still AMT's in TUL on the street waiting for recall.

You in TULE??
I was of the understanding that the AMT recall list was pretty much exhausted for TULE, and were upgrading OSMs that had obtained A/P tickets.
Other AMTs wanting to return to TUL were taking positions back in TULE, thus opeing up other outstation positions. Am I wrong here? Curious...
And with AFW AMT cand pool posting, I can't imagine why anyone on the street wouldn't take that offer(before AA posting externally).

There is a guy I talk to every now and then that says he has a good friend that is still waiting to be recalled in TUL as an AMT. May be a stretch, but this is why I say they are still going through the list here.

I'm surprised nobody is seeing the parallel re: AMR's hiring "binge" and what went on at Northworst - overhire and train then ask the NMB to be released.

Can anyone guess who will still be coming to work?

You worry too much. AA hasnt hired much for the last seven years. So you have seven years of attrition thats outpaced the contraction of the company. In fact not only AA but most other carriers plan on adding capacity this year, which means they will need to not only replace those who leave but hire more heads for the additional work. If they want to maintain operations they have to hire. From what I hear many carriers are calling massive amounts of overtime, outfits like AAR have publically stated they cant get workers. For the last 5 years the FAA has only been issueing around 6000 mechs certs a year, thats 3000 A&Ps on average. AA alone has been attriting out and will likely continue to attrit around 500 mechs per year. AA has said they wanbt to add 900 heads this yearin order to catch up with the work they have. in order to add 900 heads the have to hire around 1400 mechs. If AAR and other 3P providers cant get people then sending the work out really isnt an option, escallating fuel costs eat into any expected savings by sending the work overseas, making DWH look better and better. 1400 out of 3000, thats nearly half the annual supply for the entire aviation industry, not just airlines but general aviation, corporate aviation, even the pilot who get his A&P so he can do his own annual and 100 hour inspections. UPS just agreed to $50/hr, well if mechanics were plentiful dont you think UPS would have tried to bust their mechanics by saying "$40/hr, take it or leave it we can send the work out for less"? No company agrees to pay their workers more than they think they need to.

I can hardly wait to see the contract Bob's going to bring us with these facts and figures he has regarding shortage of AMT's.

Should be a good one!

BTW I saw a bulletin out today about info picketing to happen at DFW Terminals soon.

Last time the the TWU did Informational Picketing in regards to negotiations, we shortly there after were given "improved medical" called Flex Benefits and started paying out-of-pocket.

This time it will be the TWU taking over the Retirement Medical. History tends to repeat itself with the Docile TWU.

Todays transfer list today reflected 114 AMTs with recall. I know of several on my dock that HAVE been recalled from AFW. Whatever the reason they had to go and be fingerprinted and I assume another background check done. They were never off payroll so why the hassle I can`t say. Several more on our dock are declining recall as they have firmly settled into the DFW metroplex. Our dock continues to recieve new folks. It`s been pretty steady the last few weeks.........That is all

How coincidental,

I had a little fun with your parallel a couple of weeks ago when one of our known groupies from the "TWU whiners club" came by to visit......You should have seen the look in his face when I tossed him your Northworst scenario...LOL

Were you suddenly hit with an aroma that resembles the crowded restroom in the morning and notice a sagging bulge in the back of his pants as he left? Almost as if he had defecated his shorts?

I think I followed him in the aisle as he left your area. I was looking for flys around his arse. He was still whining...to himself.

He seemed to take it harder than I thought he would...You noticed it too? Wow, I should be a little more careful, probably shattered him for life....

Nah, he will go to the next union meeting and be given a t-shirt with a slogan, four hockey tickets, and a bag of popcorn. Then he will return to work fully charged for more of the same.

Hey Informer,

"TWU whiners club"? You mean people who want democracy in their union representation from top down? You mean people who want accountability in their elected officials?

I guess "TWU whiners club" is code words from those who feel comfortable only from behind an alias while they peddle unaccountability and undemocratic practices.

Here's a parallel for you...

Northwest Airlines stonewall the AMTs and the iam says "Guys, we got every last nickel from the company." The AMTs vote them out and vote in AMFA. Then AMFA gets an industry leading contract all the time the twu sits on the sidelines during our negotiations till AMFA is done negotiating. NWA AMTs get $7.00 HR raise and the twu is forced to follow suit and let AMFA do their negotiating only to come in 5 cents higher.

(But alas the twu allows the company to take this raise back to save the company. Yet international officers did not take the same pay cuts as we did. They didn't take ANY pay cuts.)

GO AMP!
