True, and unfortunately, workers are opting against joining unions for that reason.
Perfect example is Delta.

Unions are looking dues money and numbers. Money for the Democrats and Numbers to keep claiming they are a Political Force to Reckon with. All the while Corporations outspend the Union 11 to 1 and many Union Members vote Conservative which splits the so-called power number in half. Not to mention many Union Members are so put out by the Politics of this Country they don't even bother to vote. I see Union Members wearing NRA caps daily. (Not a Democrat) I see Union Members wearing Christian Based t-shirts daily. (Not a Democrat) I see Union Members far more interested in Fishing and Hunting than supporting a bunch of appointed Goobers who think they have some Political Might. (Not Democrats And actually it is the Union's own undemocratic nature has turned their own Members against them. (Anti-Union Period)

The AFL-CIO needs to be dismantled and Members given their power back. Give the members the right to choose the Union of their choice. Get Rid of the AFL-CIO and their self serving No Raid clauses, stop funding Politics are start fuding Union Member advancement. You might actually see a shift in the game.

All this talking, chest pounding, name calling, and political posturing and we still work under a concession contract that was signed without further ratification. Members are still filing for Bankruptcy, Members are still committing Suicide, Members are still struggling to makes ends meet. Time to get a contract and stop the TWU Charade Game. Talk is cheap. Get an Agreement.

Who cares about the politics of the country! Doesn't really matter if your Democrat or Republican, the fact of the matter is, we as a membership can't vote or recall the highest office in OUR union. If we had some accountability from the top down maybe you would see some unity, but until that happens we're pissing in the wind.

Why do you need accountability from the top down in order to have unity. I've always suscribed to having unity on my dock regardless of what the local or intl leaders were doing. I don't need intl or local leaders to tell me how to be a unionist. In fact it drives the TWU up a wall by having unity without their involvement. Try getting those who you work with to be on the same page, and then expect a visit from the union leaders to see what's wrong. ;)

I guess I'm old school, lead by example. If your leaders are not accountable, then they are not leaders. The twu doesn't care if YOU have unity or not, all they care about is your bi-weekly contribution. I hope everybody on your dock has the same unity as you, and has signed an AMP card.
 
You dont have unity because the Union Yellow Dog Liberals and the Gun Waving Conservatives are always argueing politics and hate each other. What takes place right in your work will dictate unity, not the unelected or elected leader. Union paying for Politics starts most of the arguements in my work area, if no that then religion or overtime. If no that then most recently the Fleet Service Local President.

I guess that's your opinion. I try to leave politics and religion out of it, and concentrate on democracy. We don't know what a democratic union can do, we've never seen one.
