TWU Negotiations A Failed Strategy

Thanks swamt....There are those here who would not trade the TWU for any union..let alone AMFA.
The union is meeting with the mediator today to give a new proposal and presentation. I do not believe the company will be present. They want to drag this out as long as they can because there is no threat of RETRO pay.
retro lol. The TWU is in negotiations and they sign off on letting a guy with no experience, except for a A&P transfer in.

What did we get for this? the same as always, not a thing. Par for the course

The twu int. would NEVER demand full retro pointing to the fact that the company dragged their feet during negotiations in order to turn a 5 year concessionary contract into a 8 + year concessionary contract.

The twu intl. MIGHT ask for it but it will be hollow words, just like their many slogans, because the twu int. would NEVER want to anger AA.

But thanks to the company-minded TWU, there was no "snap-back" clause.

Again, for the 52,957th time, the company said on Hour One of RPA negotiations that that snap-backs wouldn't happen for any of the unions.

You can blame the unions for a lot of things, but the lack of snap-backs isn't one of them. Had any of the unions dug in their heels on that, it's pretty certain you would have seen the Vermont Plan (or the equivalent for the APA & APFA) being triggered in a S.1113 hearing. And I seriously doubt that the bankruptcy sisters' unions were successful in getting snap-backs, and doubt that it would have happened in an AA filing...

Again, for the 52,957th time, the company said on Hour One of RPA negotiations that that snap-backs wouldn't happen for any of the unions.

As a matter fact I would blame the union for no "snap-back" clause. If your above statement is true that the co. told all the unions that from hour one no union would get a clause in there, then a good union leadership would have not allowed anyone to vote on it. Also, if the above statement is true, then you guys have 50% plus 1 idiots at your work place. But I still blame the union for allowing a vote, and I believe a re-vote with the TWU- simply amazing. No I am not in your alls shoes, however, I would NEVER vote in favor of consessions, but if I absolutely had to, I would have to know exacally when, how, how much and how quickly I would get the consessions returned to me. If the co. couldn't agree to that then no deal. This is what your union should have done for their membership, PERIOD!!!
I know, but if we didn't vote it in we would have gone into BK and it would have been worse. The co. never wanted to go to BK. But you know what, they should have, it would have been alot easier for them to come out back then than it will be now. With all the new laws now, you guys need to hold your ground and get all consessions back. As well as the rest of the unions. Good luck boys...

Again, for the 52,957th time, the company said on Hour One of RPA negotiations that that snap-backs wouldn't happen for any of the unions.

No kidding...Sounds like a one way negotiation to me of which I solely blame the unions.
they should've filed for bankruptcy....

M&R Negotiations Update - 11/16/10

By: AlanOn: 11/16/2010 18:33:35In: M&R Committee Updates

The full Maintenance and Related Negotiating Committee met November 15, 2010 in Hurst, Texas with mediator Jack Kane. Accompanying Jack Kane was Walter Darr, a recent addition at the National Mediation Board (NMB). Also present were newly-elected committee members John Compton (Local 567) and Don Dougherty (Local 513). The committee would like to thank Frank Pecoraro (Local 513) for his contributions to the committee over the last three years.

The meeting with the mediator consisted of a power point presentation and discussion outlining specific reasons why the membership rejected the previous tentative agreement by a two-thirds vote. Additionally, Jack Kane was briefed on the progress made by the TWU Negotiating committee since August 24, 2010. Based on the subsequent feedback from the membership, our contract proposal has been revised accordingly and we are ready to negotiate. Throughout this entire process the objective has been to achieve an agreement our members can ratify that recognizes the sacrifices made by the membership.

Main Issues discussed included:

Securing the next meeting date with the mediator and management
Sacrifices made by the membership
Revenue gains made by the company
Additional concessions sought by the company
Needs of the membership
We stressed the importance of securing an agreement as soon as possible and are currently waiting for a date from the mediator for the next session.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

You’re M&R Negotiating Committee

Stores Negotiations Update - 11/16/10

By: AlanOn: 11/16/2010 18:29:33In: Stores Committee Updates

The Stores Negotiating Committee reconvened on November 16, 2010 in Hurst, Texas with Mediator Jack Kane. Accompanying Jack Kane was Walter Darr, a recent addition at the National Mediation Board (NMB).

Our Committee presented a power point presentation to the Mediators to examine the failures of the rejected Tentative Agreement and to request an expedited return to the bargaining table. It is in our member’s and American Airlines best interest to return to the table to explore avenues to reach an agreement that satisfy both parties.

Although Mr. Kane could not give us an exact date as soon as we get a confirmed date, we will put it out to our membership.
We would like to thank our members for their continued support and patience.

In Solidarity,
TWU Stores Negotiating Committee

Oh Wow! The TWU showed the mediator a Power Point Presentation

That should rank right up there with a slogan on a t-shirt.

Where's the Beef?

Will take $300.00 cash.
That's more than 50% off original price, for this lightly used, retro tumbler. You would think a $600.00
tumbler would be made of Waterford Crystal and have gold flake lettering? Don't be fooled, this piece is genuine plastic, very brittle, and will crack or CAVE when it gets hot, so please no coffee during contract negotiations. Did I mention it was RETRO ( By RETRO I mean outdated and doesn't work anymore),Not RETRO, (AS OF MAY 2008). If you have one of these TWU Kool-Aid Tumblers, and would like to get rid of it, please contact your local AMP organizer, they will explain all the details.

<yada, yada, yada>

The first order of business for company and union alike is ALWAYS determining the time and place of the next meeting, then off to the bars.
