Well, since it took place at a hotel, hopefully they were off the clock. Otherwise, they should be fired for leaving the job while on the clock!

Either way, they should be fired for this incident.
if you are familiar with the posted rules of conduct and the business code of ethics, these persons are in grave violation.....they acted not in consort with IAM but on their own in their own capacity as what they believed to be IAM capacity.IAM does not condone irrational acts of violence as were demonstrated by individuals acting on their own behalf....take this to the bank.

Like Bill Clinton pointing at the dalliances of JFK. Look at what he did! Why are you paying so much attention to me when JFK was doing Marilyn Monroe? It's called a diversion. It ain't working.

And as I stated as a reply to one of your numerous PMs, I am a member of TWU. Not IBT.

Many of my family members were United Steelworkers and United Mine Workers, so I guess all of this, relatively speaking, should be considered tame. They just didn't beat up other unionists, just scabs, security guards, police...

yo...you dealing with a 12 year USWA loyal member...

This all reminds of a story from my formative teen years.

When I was a youngster in high school (Tommy Tutone's Jenny I Got Your Number(867-5309) was a #1 hit), my cousin once woke me from slumber on a school night.
"Barbeetantrums, wake up."
"Huh? What?"
"I need you to drive me to work."
"Borrow my car. Keys are on the table. I'll take the bus to school."
"No. I'm really drunk. I don't wanna get busted for driving drunk."
Think think think... Trying to wake up.
"The only reason I'm doing this is because you're family and I luv ya."
"I appreciate that. I luv ya too. You're a great kid. Now let's go or I'll be late for work."
Off we trudged to my car. My cousin sat in the car as I brushed the snow and ice off of the windows of my '74 Monte Carlo with the chipping paint, rust holes, and missing muffler.
The ride to the coke plant in Follansbee, WV (or was it Weirton?) was silent. Not a word was spoken. I was too busy thinking. Questions. So many questions.
We got to the coke plant and I finally asked that consuming question, that all-consuming question every teen male asks on a school night, "If you're too drunk to drive, how the hell do you expect to work in a freakin' mill?"
"I just sleep somewhere."
"You won't get fired?"
"No. The union covers up for us."
I remember riding home and thinking, "If I ever get a job at the mill I will be in Heaven."

As a long time TWU hostage, I can tell you the TWU is the worst union you could possibly get. The are weak, corrupt, and unaccountable, and you will never get to vote for any TWU International officer...ever. Concessions??? The TWU invented them. The TWU recruits and appoints the dregs of the industry, because they want compromised individuals they can control. The TWU have displayed "thug tactics" also for years, bombthreats, vandalism, personal attacks, and the list goes on.

I read the incident in USA Today, and you could easily reverse the union names.

Do not sign a TWU card, your jumping from the frying pan into the fire. If you get the TWU as bargaining agent, you will regret it for as long as you live, believe me.

Well then, just maybe if the IBT or TWU can pull off an election AND win the election...well I'll bet ya money those IAM thugs in Philly will be seeking other employment. Maybe just what the Airways needs to happen to fix Philly? Wonder if the company is reconsidering it's position of support for the IAM?
The company is supporting the IAM?? Why in the world would they do that?? Yes, smart a$$ comments.

this message board is a joke!!
The TWU has decided to put 8000 jobs at risk because they are in a no win scenario. They stand to lose nothing by forcing a vote that CAN NOT BE WON!! Decertification is the only result that can come out of this. Pat Rezler and his cronies have no clue of the RLA (railway labor act) and has lead his people and a small handful, and I repeat small handful, of IAM members down a path of destruction. Rezler has been quoted in the paper as stating they don't have the enough cards to file. If the TWU does file it will be with the minimum of signed cards...THAT IS SUICIDE!! Check the records Unions will not file with less than 60-75% or greater. Rezler and his crew cant even get the minimum 35%. It is real easy to sit behind a computer and act like you know what you are talking about but ignorance is bliss. These so called thugs in PHL have probably saved all your jobs. Don't think for one minute that the TWU is not using this and the threat of an election to jockey for better jobs and positions with the IAM . Grow up people this is a real fight in the real world and you better understand what is at stake here. 50% +1 of all eligible voters.......You message board regulars better do your homework and check out all the facts or you will be looking for work in the near future.
THANKS PHILLY

So being from the Viet Nam era I tend to take the "Shoot them all, let God sort'em out" approach. It's easier to get rid of all of them if you can't figure out who the 25 are.

Wow! You were in Vietnam? How bout that. So was I. When and where?

In short they can't publicly support the IAM, but common sense should tell ya that if the IAM prevails it is good for the company. If it's good for the company then the company probably will do everything within legal bounds to aid the IAM. Legally the can't do much, but for instance publicly projecting the IAM will be the surviving union (which it may very well be) aids the IAM in a very small way. A slight subliminal suggestion that it's useless to consider the IBT does aid the IAM in a small way.

Let me add one more thing. I'm for the company. I didn't ask to be creeded into a union. It's being force upon many of us non-mangement, non union employees. I've never been union and have never felt the need to be union because I feel my job performance is the best protection for keeping my job. If my job performance doesn't keep me in my job then so be it. If my bosses don't think enough of me to keep me around, or the layoffs are so severe I don't survive then I can feel good about myself that I did everything in my control to keep my job. I think it stinks that keeping my job going forward will be based on seniority and not job performance. In that scenario I have no control. It stinks, but many of us will have to deal with it.
