I hope that is a joke/sarcasm. Although being with the TWU, that does not surprise me.

Very sad that a 30 year union member posts that.
You got it on the first part. All I am saying is that during my employment, I was never put in that position.

I have never been laid off, so what is wrong with that? The TWU has kept me employed, right.

I do not understand this Scab thing. I have been a member of the TWU for over 30 years and never heard of it used around here.
Of course you don't understand it. In order to be familiar with a SCAB, you would have to be familiar with the word STRIKE. And the word STRIKE is not in the TWU's playbook unless you work on buses or trains. The TWU at AA and PANAM didn't even stage a sympathy strike that the rest of the IAM represented legacy carriers conducted in 1966.

Guess you haven't been paying attention Buck. Back in 90/91 working the 727 structure visit line we got some ex Eastern/Pan Am mechanics. I remember standing on the tail dock on 2B with one of them. He pointed out quite a few scabs walking in the door.

So we got a 30 year union man that has no idea or understanding about the concept of a scab. I don't understand how this is even possible. Good job 514, way to educate your members.

At least MetalMover understood.

I know what a scab is and DallasConehead, the union reps rarely come out to the base, it is their way of trying to get the membership to go to the meetings
which a very low percentage attend. Recently I ask the Local 514 President a question via E-Mail and his answer was come to a meeting.

Then tell him to come to the base for his union dues...

That would a nice way to ensure quality representation.

If no Representation no dues.....

But it is a closed shop, this ensures that the get paid regardless and there has been a lot of regardless for 30 years.
I do understand that this new breed of representation is going to change things....

Is that an unreasonable request?

I understand if you are not in the same city or something that would place an undue burden, but geez man...

Change takes more than b itching on web blog.

As a person who worked very hard to bring down the IAM at NWA for Mechanics, and bring in the AMFA (I will not rehash yet again the strike AFLCIO, TWU, scab issues).

It is obvious that you all are not fed up enough to make the change. Pop open a beer, and ***** away.

Vote in that next "D" scale and get yours before punching out for retirement.

You're admitting to that or taking blame? In the end I wonder how many lives your efforts ruined. After that dismal failure you are the last person to give advice

What are you doing to better the profession?

I am guessing that you weren't around when the contracts were signed after the rejection of the IAM contract at NWA, and the AMFA contract was ratified.

You would do well to educate yourself.

Hey dude if you want to live on your knees the rest of your life under crappy union contracts even in the best of times be my guest. Sometimes you have to take a stand and fight for whats right. The TWU and the IAM flat out suck I have not seen either union ever negotiate a decent contract for mechanics in the 30 years I have been in this industry and I lived the misery of the IAM at NWA. AMFA at the time was the only viable option to get out from under their crap. Well thanks to 9/11  that allowed NW to formulate a plan to eliminate AMFA. Did we win? No we didnt but one thing that did happen the wage you enjoy now as well as myself you can thank us at NWA and AMFA for that. Of course the TWU and IAM are in a race to the bottom again. Now you guys at AA have both IAM and TWU good luck you're gonna need it.

As long as the dude pays dues and votes...he has the same rights as those few who attend!

Yep Glenn they deserve what they get. Hey we had a lot of things going against us with 9/11 being the worst. But we took a shot I personally faired quite well I actually make more than I ever have and I am non union but I know some of our guys didn't fair so well but I know one thing I personally will never work for a company if the IAM or TWU is the representation there. I will get into a new line of work if something happens where I am now.

Absolutely LG43.

Never forget. Merry Christmas and hope to see you in the new year and enjoy a cool one with you.
