Since 1969, TWU has been awarding 15 four-year college scholarships annually to the dependents of TWU members. The awards are worth $1,200 each annually, for a total of $4,800 over the four year college period.

Winners of the scholarship are determined by a public drawing held each May at TWU Headquarters. The benefits of the first 30 drawings have been enjoyed by families throughout the Union. Sons and daughters of members in city passenger transit, railroad and air transportation, utilities, public employment, space installations, and allied industries are among those who began their college education with the help of funds paid to the universities.

The scholarship money is paid directly to the college or university that the successful applicant actually attends. Applications can be secured online and from the first issue of the TWU Express each year.

The Quill Scholarship Program is supervised by International Executive Vice President Harry Lombardo with the able assistance of Executive Secretary to the International Vice President & Secretary-Treasurer Tinisha Thompson.

Big freakin deal!! AMFA does the same thing at the local level. Now come back when you can show "mechanic accomplishments" not dependents. I would be willing to bet the IAM and teamsters also do something like this. Wow! You are having to look very hard to find something and you have still FAILED to show mechanic accomplishments... Keep trying brother, keep trying. BTW; you can stop trying to boost and support the TWU, they are history, fired, gone, bye-bye at AA. It's time to move onto a better representation of the mechanics at AA and bring AMFA in. It's going to be a great summer 2013!!!

lol. I wasn't going to say anything but really? You know that most companies do this? Good for the TWU for offering a basically worthless scholarship. 5,000 bucks over four years won't even make a dent in most college expenses.

I'm personally still waiting for something good the TWU has done for AA or AMTs. TWU/IAM have done a great job of being nothing but worthless.

I guess CIO is saying that we should all be glad to give up around $20,000 a year in pay and benefits because if we have kids and those kids go to college we may have a chance of winning a $5000 scholarship thats paid for with money extracted from the locals. In other words forget the $200k the concessions have already cost us because we have a chance of winning a $5000 scholarship. But then they say that we were better off giving up the profit sharing for six years for an extra 3.5% for two years.

Chuck... You and Bob have been telling us for a long time that the International owns the contract and now you have proof. Even CIO didn't have a comment on it. Right now there is a pow wow going on with the Kool Aid drinkers to come up with some kind of idiotic response. It should be entertaining to see.

Oh yeah by the way......... Thanks to Chuck, Mike, Don and Brett for making the trip again. We appreciate the time taken away from your families to help us.

I second that thanks for coming to tulsa on your own dime the crowds are getting bigger every time you guys come

No pow wow needed. The judge reaffirmed that all union parent organizations have ownership of the contract and grievances once filed. The ruling would be no different than had the IAM, AMFA, or the IBT done the same thing.

I posted in another thread that the IBT agreed to concessions at CO. Airline rep Don Triechler allowed the concessionary agreement to be imposed without a membership vote.

Saying this is ruling is somehow unique to the TWU is BS.

It's obvious that Overspeed is not comprehending what Chuck and Bob are talking about when it comes to who is the true ownership of the contract. With AMFA, "it is the membership that owns the contract" If there is any doubt with your current union representation, then FIRE your current representation, end of story...

And the rest of the industry should be completely thrilled to be part of the race to the bottom. The TWU just set everyone back even more.

but thank God for that $5,000 scholarship.

I see Amfa has a 2 tier system International and Locals, Is their any difference with Amfa than any other union? Double talk all the time, Tell the potential members what they want to hear instead of telling the truth! All you have to do is look at SWA negotiations and see Amfa has little or no power with the NMB. What is it 4 articles 4 days a month and going on how many years?? Oh yes! Amfa National Officers make more money per member that the TWU. Go figure!!

UNIONS REPRESENTING 60,000 AIRLINE EMPLOYEES UNITE IN THEIR STRONG
SUPPORT OF MERGER BETWEEN AMERICAN AIRLINES AND US AIRWAYS

Transport Workers Union (TWU), Allied Pilots Association (APA), US Airline Pilots Association
(USAPA), Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), Association of Flight Attendants
(AFA) Working Together in the Creation of a Premier Global Carrier
Sets Historic Precedent for Labor-Management Partnership within the Airline Industry
Merger Will Provide a Path for Competitive Compensation and Benefits

DALLAS, TX - February 14, 2013 – Leaders from five major unions representing more than 60,000 American Airlines and US Airways employees today voiced their strong support for the merger of AMR Corporation (OTCQB: AAMRQ), the parent company of American Airlines, Inc.,and US Airways Group, Inc. (NYSE: LCC). The merger of American Airlines and US Airwayswas announced today.
James C. Little, International President, TWU, said, “Our members have made major sacrifices over the past year. We are pleased that today American Airlines and US Airways have reached a positive step toward building a stronger, more secure and more competitive airline. This should benefit both travelers and workers. Much more work needs to take place before all of the parts that will make up a New American Airlines are assembled, but the airline we're building should be better than the old American and US Airways.”

Keith Wilson, President of the Allied Pilots Association at American Airlines said: “We areexcited with today’s announcement, which we believe is the right path forward for American Airlines and its employees. This combination paves the way for a new, more competitive American Airlines and a brighter future for the dedicated employees of the combined company. We recognized the value of merging at the very beginning, and worked for the past year to help bring this deal to fruition. Employees of the new American Airlines will enjoy competitive compensation and benefits, and will be part of a stronger airline which will create greater opportunities over the long term.”

Captain Gary Hummel, President, USAPA, said, "This merger came about due to the cooperative efforts of both management and labor. As pilots, we are proud to be a part of the New American Airlines and look forward to working with our colleagues at the Allied Pilots Association, building our new company into a financially strong, premier globalcarrier."

Laura Glading, APFA President said “It’s been a long, tough road but the result is well worth it. Today’s announcement proves that everyone benefits when labor has a seat at the table. The new American will provide job security and fair compensation for all employees and another great option for the flying public. Flight attendants are eager to help build a strong and
competitive airline and bring American back to prominence.”

Deborah Volpe and Roger Holmin, Presidents of the Association of Flight Attendants - CWA at US Airways said: "Flight Attendants are ready to participate in the benefits that will be generated by the strong network combination of American Airlines and US Airways. We are proud to be a part of the frontline that makes our airline a success and we look forward to the new opportunities we will generate by working alongside our counterparts at American."

The TWU was instrumental in pursuing a joint initiative to replace The leadership at AA and pursuing a merger with USAir. Without the Union support this may not have happened, along with this, the TWU was able to achieve raises for the membership beyond negotiations. Can anyone show us where Amfa or the Teamsters could have done better?

Saying this is ruling is somehow unique to the TWU is BS.

Well for many years the International has claimed that the TWU was unique in that they were more Democratic than other Unions and that their locals were "Autonomous" , this just shows that they lied. It is extremely un-democratic and the locals are not only not autonomuos, they dont even have a right to defend themselves from termination of their existance. Donnelly, someone whose figures have been proven to be questionable and a disservice to the members because he includes assumptions as dictated by the company instead of using ones more favorable to the members, cooks up some numbers and makes up a fairy tale and it gets presented to the IEC with no counter from the Locals whose fate is being determined. The fact is that the AA/TWU system is especially unique and not in a good way from even the rest of the TWU. Other members of the ATD outside of AA refer to the ATD as the "AA"TD because all the ATD ever concerns themselves with is AA. While the elected officials at other Locals outside of AA do have pretty much complete control of negotiations at all levels at AA elected officials are confined to Low level negotiations, and the only reason they are thereat all is to take the blame for what will inevitably be a concessionary contract that is not industry leading. Bobby Gless stated that with or without the Local representatives negotiations would continue. Sure they may spin something as industry leading but the whole package is usually deficient, by the time the truth gets out the only people the membership can take their fustration out on is their elected leaders and the same International officials get fresh faces to try and mold. The fact that most of the elections are staggered prevents them from ever seeing a whole change at once and allows them to keep control, and when that doesnt work they either resort to "self determination" or "reorganization" to disrupt the groups of Locals they cant control. They insist on keeping the same appointed officials in place over those who are elected. If workers cant chose who represents them to a company and are limited to choosing who represents them to appointed officials of the International doesnt that defeat the purpose of having a Union? Like I said our situation is unique within the TWU, and not in a good way for the members.

CIO, stop, you're killing me!

Every accomplishment of the TWU you've posted lately has me rotflmao!

Keep up the great work of showing us more reasons why the TWU at AA needs to be replaced.

Yes, locals have the autonomy to run their own affairs unlike the TWU, IBT or IAM.

We just got a contract raise in August and started negotiations then to determine what our raise will be starting Aug 2013.
What is your rush.
