TOMMORROW WE BEGIN!

you all are wack if you think trading one industy Union(IAM/IBT) for another(TWU) will serve us better! Sure,IBT has a track record for representation, in the trucking industry! And even that is debateable, when's the last time you saw a Consolidated Freight truck rolling down the road. "But what about UPS mechanics?" you say. I say it's much easier to achieve success from a company whose business is extremely lucrative.
If you express an interest for representational change for the M&E and related, the example has already been set by our flight folks. The ability to focus on the craft needs to be addressed and that would require to vote in AMP/AMFA.

Where are the AMP or AMFA organizers?
We need to start right now. Is already pass tomorrow.

Has AMFA or AMP ever represented Stores clerks? I am in the stores group but also disagree with AA's position of replacing licensed AMT's with OSM's. Im just wanting to know what options are out there for the stores clerks other then the TWU? We are such a small group, just 1300 of us. It will suck to be left with not much of a choice.

Just FYI. The teamsters were fired at SWA for NON, yes I said "NON" representation. Along with raising our dues, and nobody ever showing their faces to the members. If you guys really want the teamsters then just look how badly they have represented the AirTran guys. UAL guys screwed up bringing back the teamsters. At AMFA the members vote for "ALL" officers, ALR's and committee members. The membership votes on everything from the contracts to the local union wanting to spend more than 300.00 bucks. AMFA is run by the mechanics, not some other non-airline profession. AMFA allows members to attend "ALL" negos from contracts to integration negos.

For you AA'rs. We were going to go with our own personal union at one time here at SWA. One of the main reasons we did not was we didn't have any funds to get that done after booting the teamsters out in a record card drive to get rid of them. Just something to think about, you will need some funds to get the union up and running. I will not say who you guys should vote for, I can only offer how most all of us feel at SWA with AMFA, and you guys can take the info and vote for who ever you want to. Since AMFA came on board at SWA, the membership is extremely happy. So much more informed. Matter fact some people complain about how much stuff they have to vote on where as the teamsters before just made a decission without any input from members. As most of you know, the teamsters tried to get back into SWA once the SWA/AT aquasition was announced. They went straight to all the former teamster reps to inquire how it will go, and every single one of them told the teamsters to pack sand, and it aint gonna happen. They quickly retreived from the drive.

I would love to see you AA'rs become AMFA. But I do see the AMP possibly working out for you guys as well. These would be the only two choices if it were me. After looking into AMP I see it is run almost exacally like AMFA is run. Just be prepared, both these unions take alot of membership involvement, ALOT. But that is how they are ran, by the membership. Good luck guys I hope you pull it off and rid yourselves of the TWU...

Funny... some of the guys on the US forum were excited about bringing in TWU and getting rid of IAM.

Guess the grass is always greener...

What was explained to me was that the stores group would have to file their own card drive. I took that to mean that Stores is not recognized in the 'Related' group. Every opportunity requires engagement and someone to step into the leadership role to make it happen. Talk amongst your peers and get others to get involved with you. The info as to how to put the drive together can be provided at web sites of Representation that you might solicite. The stores group provides a necessary service so keep your chin up and make it happen. Good Luck.

SWAMT, great post! Thanks for the insight. I'm sure your aware that AMFA's original leader was an AA mechanic that got tired of the TWBoo's shananegans and incompetance. It would be awesome to have his efforts come full circle here at AA and we could build on what you guys are doing for our craft over at SWA.

I would like some discussion over whether we need political representation, such as the AFL-CIO?

It doesn't hurt but it's not a make or break deal. As long as the big unions support one party, the other party will ignore them due to their lack of support and the party the union's support will give them lip service but do what the big money wants.

Fair enough.

However, at my level in the company, the need for a union whose sole purpose is to fund a political party, which has failed to make any gains political or fiscal, to contract with the company.

At what point do you stop paying for faulty service?

That would be Fleet Service.

I know of no one in M&R excited about the either the TWU or the IAM.

Labor needs to form a Labor Party like they have in Europe.
