TOMMORROW WE BEGIN!

AMFA and NW should be enough reason not to go with them.

We would just as soon hear you IAM cult members say "thank you" to the honorable NWA AMFA members for raising the bar for all AMTs in this business. Otherwise we'd still be begging mgt for $30/hr.

Tell us, what has the IAM accomplished to hold its head high above the others? AMFA's not perfect, but at least you can sit in on negotiations and officers are elected/held accountable/actually have a voice & don't get shouted down-"you're out of order, brother" :-/
Additionally, AMFA hasn't been banking milllions in dues money for decades like the other 3 ind unions either.
It's a Fn no-brainer to me...

They inherited the IBT CBA and have not negotiated a new one, just extensions, and how much work does AS farm out?

Just like the iam at eastern?
AMFA at NW was hosed because no other 'union' supported them.
Every NW Union crossed their picket line. Every one!
IAM did some questionable work (pushbacks).
NWA IAM ex President and Chairman were one of the 'first' to cross the picket.
What does that tell you about solidarity?
Your voice:
Iam is Really a Scab Union

FYI, AMFA is doing quite well at SWA and AK.
B) xUT

Yep :)
Exactly.

Isn't there some issue with drawing a Pension from the IAM National Pension Fund and still being able to work as an AMT?

From what I recall, even if you are covered by the IAM National Plan and are drawing a pension, if the IAM finds out that you are working in the same industry and in the same capacity: the IAM can stop your pension payments?

Given that many mechanics at AA will need to find some other source of income after leaving AA, would it be smart to go with a Union that not only wants to control your pension but can refuse to pay because you have to work.

I will say the IAM is better than the IBT, not much of a compliment though.
Maybe the IBT was once a good union, but after watching what they did/doing to the UAL M&R, I would recommend against it.
Funny thing, (at UAL) most of the IBT officers were once IAM officers. They didn't even try to promote the IAM.

They did more than merely extend the Reamsters contract at WN.
They made some changes/enhancements. WN is doing well financially, so they were able to make some changes to an otherwise decent contract. They're gen happy with AMFA over there-not a chance of going back to Reamsters.
AS is a small niche carrier a fraction of the size of the legecys. They do well financially too. Apparently they're pretty happy with what they have achieved w AMFA too. They focus on keeping the compensation UP for M&R, rather than employing more at a pathetic rate. Something foreign to ind unions---
"loaf a bread costs the same".... BS mantra.

Yep and they sucessfully negotiated WN sending planes to Aeroman in San Salavador too.
