This Is How We Roll.......

I understand hp uses glassware in first class. When U decides to cut costs, the first item removed is glassware. What is domestic first class service for trans-con flights on hp? Do you serve hot meals?

USAIRWAYS will have to compete with the new low cost carrier MAXJET who will have service out of JFK, and DULLES - They will be the new international only carrier for a low fare.... Seems this is this trend ---

You are absolutely right. We have to do something in order to survive. The carrier has to evolve and change, the old ways no longer works.

Sometimes, but it's rare nowadays. Usually a choice of chicken ceasar salads with garlic bread and dessert or lasagna/pasta with side salad and dessert. Nothing special, so when I work first class I just drown them with tidbits and drinks. We still have glassware on meal flights.

First Class at HP is probably the easiest position nowadays 'cause some flight don't have meals.

Cultural thing? Except for CCY, most people at US, particularly most of the more senior FA's know that USAir begins with UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!

If they didn't treat us that way, do you really think that their FF's would be so loyal? Most of us kept flying with US because we knew that the FA's would fight to keep the airline around--and they did. The least we could do is not give up on them and keep our business with US despite the current management. The FA's I talk to are staying optomistic about US's future with Parker. Sure their nervous, but who isn't nervous with oil at over $65 a barrel.

Oh, I don't care about the glassware. I was just in UA's FC and they have glassware and where has that gotten them?

Most of the AWA flight attendants that I talk to are looking forward to the expansion and opportunities that this merger will bring. Many of the AWA flight attendants are nervous about the BIG issue of seniority, but it is because we have never been through a merger and are uncertain what it will bring. I believe that once it is finalized, and we all get around to business as usual, the fears will be calmed.I am certain that we will offer a GREAT service to our customers as the new US Airways, and with the combined power of a great leader (Parker), strong union (AFA) and dedicated employees, our new company will be second to none.
Regarding the first thread, and the cultural comment, it was one person's opinion.

Sky high states: Seniority issues are just the start. Who's "service procedures" are going to be used? F/A "Manual procedures" and "Company policies"?
And lets NOT forgot when the combined carriers crews start flying each other's routes. Will you extend your hand to your new co-workers?......or blame your unhappiness on the new company and treat your "new" co-workers based on their employee number? U employees understand your fears. Mergers require change. Lots of them. And since, U employees have been through several mergers, they too, have some apprehension. They are praying that past "merger mistakes" will not happen this time. Employees have so much pride in their perspective companies, that any changes to that "culture" have many feeling uneasy. America West, just losing that name is upsetting. For the U employees, many feel too many "changes" have already taken place. Bankruptcy, concessions and downsizing. WE ALL want normalcy and this merger may delay that. Our competition is hoping we all fight and affect our operations. My biggest fear is that it will affect our most valued asset, our customers.

Here's a thought: "Date of hire" for the system-wide seniority. Slotting IF you transfer into one another's base.

LET'S TAKE THE BEST OF BOTH AIRLINES!

That seems fair. I'm an HP F/A and that sounds good to me. Date of Hire for the System wide seniority and slotting if you transfer. Have you suggested this to AFA yet? Best of luck to all of us!

Thanks! :)

Yes, I will extend my hand to my fellow employees. I always have at America West, and will at USAirways. One of the reasons that I enjoy being a flight attendant is because I like PEOPLE.
As far as all of the changes go, at America West we have had nothing but change. I am used to it, welcome it, and enjoy it. I am not concerned with the issues you mention, nor am I concerned about my seniority number because these issues will be resolved in the manner that they should be. This merger is good for both carriers, necessary for both carriers, and good for the industry as a whole.
Please relax. Everything is alright. B)

sKY HIGH states: I disagree. U F/A's embraced First class. Standardized Service procedures: Front to back bev/meal service. (Piedmont Aladdin Tray was used) New Aircraft. The FULL Can. :D in previous mergers.

TWA, this says it all.

Right now USAirways is having its downs, mostly due to lack of management or mismanagement. The F/A's at USAirways are arguably the best in the industry. They've managed to keep customers returning to our airplanes through the mess of the last 16 years. Our load factors are testament to this.

AS I recall, it wasn't all that long ago that AWA had its downs, too. A while back AWA earned the moniker "America's Worst" among travelers. It was likely not deserved, but perception means a lot in this industry. Through incredibly hard work by its employees and a smart, dedicated management team, AWA has transformed itself into a high-class operation. I congratulate all of you.

This doesn't mean that USAirways employees deserve any scorn from the AWA folks. On the contrary, having been through its own "downs," the AWA group should be the most sympathetic to our plight. You've all walked in these shoes beforfe and you KNOW BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE that the rank-and-file employees at USAirways are NOT responsible for the current "down" we are experiencing. Or are your memories really that short, Mr. Gardner?

NONE of us are any "better" than the other. ALL airlines have great flight attendants. All flight attendants and airlines have earned negative reputations at some point. NO ONE IS PERFECT! Let's all stop the arguing regarding who-did-what-better. My friends at SWA even have some pretty interesting stories about their company.
As far as I am concerned, I have a lot to learn from my counterparts at US Air, and I am sure that once we all start comparing "this is the way we did it" we can probably come up with a BETTER way to do it all.
This merger is going to happen, it is going to happen in a few weeks, and personally, I am ready for it and looking forward to it. Like I said in another forum, BOTH airlines need it, the industry needs it, and it is a GOOD thing for BOTH CARRIERS. B)
