By the way, I just finished a trip with a senior HP crew and they are very excited about the merger. I don't feel anxious or worried about this merger, even if a few senior US F/A transfer base. Both airlines need change and this industry has to evolve in order to survive. I welcome the change, fear is what stopping most of us from progressing.

I suggest people read the book "Who move my cheese?" . It's a great book about embracing changes. It's going to be okay.

HP/US FA

Yuck, I'm not even going to read through this garbage, but just to respond to the first ####-stirring, WWF wrestler type post, all airlines have thier bad days and bad spells. A few years ago HP was splashed on magazine covers as"America's Worst Airline". HP is great airline with a great culture and I look forward to working with most of you. So do the 90% of US and HP employees who aren't looking for an internet bitchfight to spice up thier lives. You know what they say about arguing on the internet...

US Airways has recieved numerous awards for thier service. While in bankrupcy they won Airline of the Year from the Airline Quality Rating. They also in the last few years beat out european airlines for thier flight attendants, business and economy class product for transatlantic.

I sat in ATL once around a delayed Delta flight and you should have heard the passengers berating the gate agent and swearing off Delta, with claims that US Airways is not only better service, but flies in weather, never had broken equiptment, and cured cancer. People ALWAYS talk about other airlines being better when things aren't going thier way. If you're to believe passenger rants, then "the other airlines" still serve hot meals, never cancel, are impeeccably punctual and are all-out better than the one you work for. They think this hurts your feelings and will make you give in, stop being so mean, and cook them up a steak or jump ahead of the 42 planes ahead of you on the taxiway or whatever injustice you've subjected them to.

This mudslinging is all so silly and thankfully not indicative of F/As at either carrier. You're all going to have to work together, and succeed or fail together, like it or not. Why not focus on keeping as many jobs on the property as possible (hmmm, MidAtlantic, anyone?), and growing into a powerhouse rather than starting fights? "We want your seniority!" "We're bigger!" "We're nicer, you're a poophead!"

G R O W U P.

This has gone too far and too toxic for me. I am a very optimistic person, but reading too much of this has been totally draining. I'm outta here and enjoy your mudslinging 'cause I'm not going to be part of it.

Ciao.

Unfortunately I feel the same way about HP posts and I too hope that they are few and far between.

My family lives in PHX and my mother was thrilled about the merger thinking that I would be able to quickly transfer into the base. I informed her that regardless of my seniority, I can only transfer into PHX when there is an opening which could take years, but more importantly I told her that from what I have heard, it will be a loooooong time before I will feel welcomed in PHX.

As I said before when speaking of "fencing", it appears that ANIMOSITY will be the fence that will seperate us the longest. :(

what a trip, I would personally welcome you to Phoenix the first trip you come here if I knew you were coming. Some folks don't realize what we are on the verge of accomplishing. This merger is going to be a huge deal. Not too long in the future we will be making history together. There are a few sour folks (like in any large company), but the vast majority of AWA will welcome US Airway folks with open arms. Doug has turned AWA around and he will turn the new US Airways in to "The Premier LCC" and the first LCC that provides global service. We will have a feather in our cap that no other airline can claim. We just need to execute Doug's plan. Truly Exciting Stuff!

THANKS to EricLv2Fish and all the other positive responses to my previous posting!

These past few months I have read the posts on the U and HP forums to learn anything I can since I am on a voluntary leave and I want to stay informed for my return next year. Yeah, it can be discouraging reading some of the postings, but I realize that it is a very emotional time and, let's face it, venting is healthy (to a degree)!

However, I think it is in my best interest to step aside from this site for a while and concentrate on maintaining my own positive attitude. Until then, I will keep EricLv2Fish's words above and all the other upbeat postings on my mind. :)

Our "beloved culture" just wants this whole thing to be FAIR. Why didn't we look at changing an oudated bylaw before? Maybe because we were feeling really comfortable where we were and the idea of a merger with another airline never seemed real until now. Even with the ATA deal it was different, as it would not have been a complete merger. We're not asking to have you "stapled" to the bottom of the seniority list...we're asking for what is FAIR. With DOH we at AWA are basically "stapled" to the bottom of the seniority list. You guys want it all your way, or no way....we are just asking for something in the middle that is FAIR. Your company treated you like crap and you're angry...understood. Really....understood. But don't pass that anger on to us by not being able to see our side of this too. No one should be disadvantaged because of this merger.
[post="295459"][/post]

How are you stapled???? With DOH almost 1/2 of HP flight attendants are SENIOR to me!! I will lose about 1,000/1,500 in seniority. Do I like that? No, but it is what is fair. As far as our way or no way, we want YOU to follow the bylaws. It would have been taken out long ago if it wasn't fair. You CANNOT change the rules in the middle of a hand. That is the point of this all. Once we merge, we may someday merge with another.

I am doing the same thing Whatatrip. I was feeling pretty good about the merger until I read some of the mudslinging here especially coming from the junior ones. The past few weeks that I have worked, my crew at HP didn't feel anxious or concerned about it Some were either happy, excited or neutral about the merger 'cause we all wanted a change and a fresh start.

and You are absolutely right! I am staying out of this board too, I think it is in our best interest to step aside and focus all our energies on positive attitude and outcome.

HP F/A soon to be a US F/A

It's funny how people can hear a "tone" on something that was written.

I am thrilled about this merge. I think it will be great for our airline. I was only responding to the arrogant attitudes I have witnessed from a few posters on her.

And for the record. I would rather be a junior Phoenix boy any day than a haggard beat down crotchety senior momma!

what a trip, your welcome anytime to Phoenix. Thank you for your gracious post. We have great folks here, so don't worry. Everyone has to remember that written communication like what is on these boards is NOT the same as spoken communication. Be careful what you read into these posts, and at the same time be thoughtful when you type your words into a post, or you may send a message that you didn't intend. The other thing to remember is one bad attitude can make for a whole lot of misery. Along with that is 90 percent of people problems are caused by less than 10 percent of the people. With that in mind that should help you cope with some the negativity coming across on these boards. These is a very emotional time for both sides, but we need to remember to remain the airline professionals that we are. If you really, really, really want to read some good posts that are upbeat and entertaining, go to "Lil' Kim & Us Airways F/a Go At It" on the US Airways bulletin board. Gonna go make some more popcorn and rejoin that post! ;)

This is how we roll……….

Here at America West Airlines, we have a pretty simple life. We live in Phoenix, a Metropolis that is made up of people from around the country. Our airline, for the most part, runs smoothly. The customers seem to like the service they receive and are always supportive of the changes that we have had to make because the economy. One of the main reasons for this is the employees. A Flight Attendant spends the most time with our customer and, as you know, can be the make or break in a tough industry. If you don’t believe me, talk to many of my customers. Like the Phoenix area, many of our customers are from Phoenix and support the home town airline. But many come from other cities and other airlines. They are fed up with the poor service, bad attitudes, lack of genuine care, and a true love of the job that many Flight Attendants have lost. It does not take much to care for a passenger, a coworker, or the job. In a time that demands for a Flight Attendant to step up to the plate and excel in all they do, many Flight Attendants have a problem meeting these caring benchmarks. Sure, they are technically competent. But the rest leaves a lot to be desired. When an airline has imposed wage cuts, retirement cuts, and benefit cuts, it is evident that to survive, a Flight Attendant becomes one of the sole tools to keep the airlines customers coming back. This is not the case though. Out of Chicago, my passengers avoid United like the plague. “I’m happy to see you†they say. In Pittsburgh, you would have thought the Berlin Wall came down when America West started flying there. I could almost hear people rejoice “We’re freeâ€! You know, America West was offering reciprocating flying status to lure the Elites from other airlines. Meaning, if you are a platinum somewhere else, they will make you platinum for the year. The following year the Elite had to work at it. I’m not sure if they still are. I bet they are. We had a great response from it. The bottom line is, at America West, we strive to survive. The Flight Attendant is a rock upon which the customers foundation sits. Oh sure, we have a few week links. But for the most part, we are solid in our effort to provide the best level of customer service. As the merger between America West and US Airways moves forward, and the seniority integration becomes more of degradation and humiliation for America West with the outdated bylaws of AFA, make a note. The fact that we will be called US Airways is merely interesting. They said it is a more recognized name. It is. Most people recognize it as a bottom of the barrel, down right piss-poor airline. Much of it is service related. This is me and my coworkers airline. We care in all we do. Customer service excellence. Our Flight Attendants service and attitude is one of the major reasons we are still here. If you don’t like it, you can go. Call it retiring, quitting, early out, whatever. If you don’t want to “Get On Board†with that, we don’t want you here. If you don’t like the tone I take. If you are mad and want to take you ball and go home, that’s fine. We have our own ball. We play pretty good too. I know because I carry your passengers every day. They swear they would never go back. Now they have to. Move forward to greatness here at my airline. Don’t wreck it like you and your management did to yours. If you are willing to sign on for that, then welcome. I’ll be proud to call you my coworker.

THIS IS HOW WE ROLL

Can't resist this one......what an arrogant statement to make! You cannot judge someone UNTIL you've walked in their shoes! Do you think that its been easy for US employees to deal with all the media beradings, analyst pessimisms, and most of all an uncaring management team! Don't you think that ALL front line employees at US have had to work extremely hard on a daily basis to keep passengers coming back? I can tell you as a front line employee at US, it's been an EXTREMELY difficult year for me! There have been soo many times I've come home from work, ready to throw the towel in cause I couldn't take it anymore! But as you recap all the bad you encountered that day, the ONE thing that really turns it around for you is when you hear the one passenger out of hundreds you encountered that day say " good luck to all of you, we've always loved this Airline!" So, if you are going to throw stones, at a subject you know NOTHING about, I hoped you walked in our shoes! I'm not saying the employees of US are any better than AWA! I'm just saying don't judge us, we've worked pretty hard to stay afloat and survive! And yes, there are some who are bitter, and will always be bitter, but the vast MAJORITY of us STILL have a passion to make this Airline succeed!

Nice professional post Whatnow? You got your message across loud and clear with out name calling and inflamatory remarks. Hope to be able to work with you some day.

I'm guessing the wind-up artist who started this thread is NOT HP's best flight attendant, because I've had the privilege of some PM's from HP f/a's who are smart as a whip and sensible. I'm guessing they are far more representative of the HP culture.

MG, go back and look at the DOT metrics. U, prior to and thru BKI was generally in the top three, frequently outperforming WN. And not to put to fine a point to it, HP. You may want to go easy with the stones, because for a while, y'all were dead LAST. Just as U was during BKII.

Devil Dog, unless you walk out in front of a bus, YOU are going to be old one day. Unless you find a sugar daddy or win the lottery, and based on what y'all say about HP wages (not so good), you're going to need a job as you approach those golden years.

Are you going to chuck being top bidder, top of scale, etc. and start over else where because you don't approve of old f/a's? I'm guessing not. So keep your bias, obviously not so well thought out, to yourself. Do you realize how it makes you look?

Here's the 411 on the U 'tude.

They have taken big hits from a management team who refused to fix the business first. Management made employee give-backs the ONLY solution. They dumped fixing the airline in Parker's lap.

Well and good; U troops have prayed to their gods for a decade for a good boss.

However, the implements of U's downfall are now headed for Tempe. Do you blame the employees for being concerned? We all hope the Parker way prevails, but nobody KNOWS that. Your trust in Parker is being counterbalanced by U distrust in the U veeps coming over. Go back and look at the posts; Parker had a groundswell of U support UNTIL Crellin was announced. Now, at this point, it's a done deal, and time will tell.

That feeds into the deeper concern, though. U employees haver taken big hits, that were unjustified in the face of mismanagement. I will concede those cuts enabled a mismanaged airline to stay alive for this merger. But for the U troops, they feel they have given all they intend to.

Do we know further cuts aren't coming? This seniority issue indicates it is possible. Oil prices feed into the fear. And the veep arrivals from the East are masters at exploiting fear, uncertainty and division.

U folks are not going to be interested in talk. They will believe nothing but results.

If things go as well as you say they are, this talk will fizzle out.

If more significant sacrifices are asked, all bets are off.

diogenes.... that was the best reply to this entire thread. The moderators should end this overblown thread with your words.

Enough has been said. Enough people are trying to enhance the fear. Go to work, do your job, collect your paycheck. And once in a while, smile knowing that you can do all of those things in todays economic turmoil.

Love ya--ericlv2fish! Always good posts on the threads. B)

Matt and Devil are really junior, so give them a break. They are just scared of getting furloughed or being bumped down to reserve. You can't blame them, change can be filled with fear and uncertainty.

Anyway I hope it all works and we can resolve this in peace.

Peace! :)
